Submarina California Subs

Great subs. Ingredients are fresh. Staff is engaging and polite. The restaurant is very clean. Subs were made fast, but I did not feel rushed to decide on ingredients. Kids liked it too.

Ok I went to this spot for the first time. The food was okay. But my shocker was I went to the ice machine to get ice. The ice had a black specs in it. I got two more rounds and it was the same. I alerted one of the employees and he told me he knew and to pick out the black specs. I have read all the other reviews and they state the food is good and that could be true but the black spec statement left a bad taste in my mouth.

Came here for the first time after playing some disc golf. I’m from CA so I like being reminded of home.

Visited this Submarina on my way across Oklahoma and I must say, I was not disappointed. The establishment was clean & the atmosphere was inviting, the TV was playing an exciting DVD and the other customers seemed to be enjoying it. I myself was too busy chowing down to notice the DVD much. I had a super well prepared Triple-​Play. All the ingredients were really fresh and I appreciated that as well as the attentive customer service skills of the staff. I’ll definitely go again.

NIce clean location, I come every time I’m in Oklahoma about twice a year. The veggies are the freshest I’ve had on a sandwich. My favorite is the tuna melt on jalapeño bread with havarti cheese and avocado ‚(how do they slice it so perfectly!?) I live in Cali so I have been to several Submarinas, none have better bread or avocados than this location. The staff are full of smiles and always friendly. The bathrooms were clean and I was glad because we had a long drive and when traveling you just want to stop for fresh food and clean toilets! I hope they stay open, too many are closing here in San Diego.

Visited Submarina California for the first time recently with my family. We grabbed a few subs to go. I ordered the large Italian on wheat bread. After the first bite, I immediately knew this was a step above your typical sub sandwich. The veggies and meats all tasted very fresh and crisp. The bread was fresh and didn’t seem over-​processed like some of the more common competitors. My wife and son loved their sandwiches as well. No complaints. I’d like to come back soon and try out some other subs, but so far I’m really happy with my first experience. The employees were friendly & professional & the restaurant seemed clean.
It’s too early to say if they’re better than Jersey Mike’s (my personal favorite), but they’re right up there. I’ll need to give them another shot. If you’re in the area & want a fresh sub or sandwich, check it out. By the way, I think the business name is misspelled within Unilocal

The first time I ate there I was impressed with how fresh the bread was and how quality their ingredients were. Unfortunately as time went and I continued to eat here quite frequently, the management has allowed the restaurant to operate very poorly. They have soup on the menu but there has never, not one single time that I’ve ever been in there, been any soup choices. Then a couple of days ago, during the lunch rush, they had a very large order for a school and they only had two employees… one of which was almost incapable of helping. After waiting more than 20 minutes for them to finish the order and only because the woman waiting for the order had to tell them to finish the it, and after helping the woman sack her food and chips so she could get the food back to the students, they got my order wrong in charge me full price. I will be looking for a new place to get a good sandwich.

My go to sub place in the area. The bread is fresh, they have lots of options and the meat is great.
I had the cali club, and was super satsfied.
I love that they have more than two size options too. Not everyone wants either a 6″ or 12″ sub. The 9 is perfect.
Pros:
1) Better than subway– cleaner, polite staff, and the bread doesn’t contain rubber (like its counterpart)
2) Lots of meat on each sandwhich

We were looking for a lighter dinner on Saturday, saving ourselves for brunch the next day, so we headed over to Submarina to use a Groupon we had purchased. Service was a big slow with just two people work… one slicing meat and the other adding toping AND checking people out. Trying to remember that patience is a virtue (though it’s not one of mine) we waited and placed our order. Hubby ordered the Triple Play while I went for the Cali and we both had the cucumber wasabi sauce, which packed a little bit of a punch. While the service was slow, the two were doing a good job at getting people through as quickly a they could… kudos. Another nice things is that the meat is sliced fresh as you order your sub.
Not setting our expectations too high, we grabbed our subs, a bag of Sun Chips, two drinks and a corner table. We were pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t «OMG FANTASTIC» but bacon and avocado on any sandwich makes me an easy mark. We can see ourselves going back again when we are in the mood for a sub and in the general area but we would not go out of our way to get there.
