Because my adult son is disabled he receives disability benefits(SSI right now since he hasn’t been able to work for awhile). He also has private insurance through his dad(thankfully) but automatically gets Medicaid(and Medicare) to cover any expenses private insurance doesn’t cover because he is poverty level(under) on SSI. Years back during a state budget issue, dental was taken off the table for Medicaid recipients. Some dentists opted not to go back to the Medicaid billing once the dental was reinstated. Dr. Kitts was one of them. We continued going to this dentist because we love Zach’s dental hygienist and because we have been going to her for years, and we have paid the difference for awhile. We cannot pay the difference any longer and have let the dentist know this. He doesn’t seem to care about the patients who were loyal for years, gave him great recommendations when he was young and starting out etc. etc., and trusted him to do the right thing since we did begin seeing him while my son was on Medicaid. Dr. Kitts chose to take billing Medicaid off the table completely and didn’t go back to it, therefore making it impossible for the people in his care already, who are in my son’s shoes, to continue with him and his hygienists due to heavy financial issues(they wouldn’t be on Medicaid if they didn’t have financial issues). All he needs to do is to begin accepting Medicaid again, like he did before when we began seeing him, and he can keep all the people who have struggled to stay with him and paid the difference when Medicaid wasn’t paying. The thanks and care Zach gets for this loyalty we have shown? «Sorry, we can’t do anything about it, hate to lose you but you have to do what you have to do». it’s a choice he has made. Now we have to go elsewhere, and hope to find a hygienist who is as good with Zach as Sandra was(love her). Dr. Kitts would prefer to bill my son each time he goes in, knowing he’s on SSI, or to lose him, rather than do the right thing for his patients. He has also lost me of course, though I am not on Medicaid and my dental is 100% covered through my insurance.

My son and I went to Dr. Kitts for years, but I ended up changing dentists after his associate promised my son’s root canal would be covered by insurance and then it wasn’t. After the initial part of the procedure was done, I was told it wouldn’t be covered. My son was left with a temporary tooth and I got a big fat bill and was told they wouldn’t finish the work until my son’s insurance kicked in 6 mos. later or until I paid up. During that time, his tooth broke off and we went to a different dentist to get it fixed. That’s when we found out Dr. Kitts had created weird food traps in my mouth by making oddly shaped fillings. He had also been chipping away at my son’s teeth with small fillings, basically ruining them to make a buck.

I’ve been going to Dr. Kitts since he bought the practice from my old dentist in Richmond Beach. His team is quick, professional, and I’ve never had any complaints. I live near Laurelhurst in Seattle now, but still make the drive out to Edmonds twice a year for cleanings. Routine visit costs $ 190, and my MetLife Dental plan covers $ 170 of the cost.
