I came here for brunch and it was delightful! As an NYC resident that lives brunch and has been to many restaurants for brunch throughout NYC I thought this place was absolutely delicious and will be something I will miss when I go back home. We had the toast with berry compote, seafood frittata, oyster Benedict, and French toast. Everything down to the last morsel was delicious, especially the French toast. The coffee was also good. The bathroom was clean, as well as the restaurant. Really yummy with a nice ambiance. My friends and I spent two hours just enjoying ourselves. If I ever come back to WA I definitely want to come here again.

I found nothing special about this place. Arrived in time for happy hour at the bar but found it to be really cramped and uncomfortable. After a few minutes we decided to skip the happy hour menu and move to a table. The dining area was pleasant but a little too dim. It was a decent place to meet friends after work. We ordered avocado bread which was quite good(might not be on the menu) and a salad(I think pear and arugula) which was okay, but it was pretty dry. I should have asked for more dressing. Also got a cup of the seafood chowder. There was nothing good or bad about it. Overall I wasn’t really impressed with the food and it was a little pricey. Service was decent and the place is clean, modern and nice. It’s good to try once.

«A nice neighborhood spot full of potential.» A nice cozy spot for midweek dinner. The corner location provides good visibility and the large windows gives a preview of the interior décor and well-lit bar. We finally gave Salt and Iron a try after multiple passes. Seating was in abundance and we were immediately brought chips and aioli to start. The menu had some decent selections and enough to intrigue the palette. I requested the flat iron steak medium rare however arrived medium done with some parts rare. Though unevenly cooked the blue cheese topping was a nice touch and provided a good complexity. This restaurant was all about the aioli dipping sauces and never skimped on the condiments. The server was quick to point out the sauce. Cocktails were expertly mixed and poured served with the appropriate garnish. My Negroni definitely arrived in fashion. Service was very friendly and immediate to correct missing side orders. We were pleased at the intervals of check ins and ensuring water glasses are filled. Overall, I would give this restaurant another try. The good service made a lasting impression. Though the steak slightly missed the requested«done-ness» I would still revisit to try other items on the menu.

We’ve dined here on two occasions, for a dinner and a lunch. Once served, the food has been consistently delicious. However, both times we have experienced a very confused and dismissive staff — not a smile in sight. There was no acknowledgement by the receptionist upon our arrival — it seemed like it was an imposition that we had walked in. Finally, 3 different people tried to figure out what table was available(there were several) and exactly who would escort us. After reaching the first table, they had us move because of a ‘mistake’. Once seated at the second table, we eventually had to wave down a waitperson to at least give us water, after waiting several minutes. We had many different people handle our order, and all seemed confused. This ‘service’ continued throughout the meal. The staff at Salt & Iron needs some basic customer service training, and clear direction on who is supposed to be doing what. Made a great meal disappointing.

Came for Brunch and would definitely come again! Located in cute downtown Edmonds. I ordered the Sunny BLT, came with a side of herbed fries. Very pleased with the service, our waitress was Sigrid. Cozy atmosphere as well!

I had the Caesar/fish salad and a draft cider. They both were good. At first I wasn’t convinced, but it got better as the meal went on. The décor is nice as well. That’s about it as far as nice things I have to say. The employees were flustered that they got busy for lunch. I’m not sure why, but I assume they were expecting to phone it in that afternoon. Prices were too high. I get that you have to pay a decent amount for good food, but in this case it felt like they were just charging what they thought they could get away with because it’s Edmonds. I might come back, but with all of the other great options in the area, I’m not sure they made the cut.

My boyfriend and I drove up from Shoreline as we were hoping to get some great food and have an opportunity to go somewhere nice for brunch! The restaurant had classy décor and friendly staff but that’s where the two stars end. We were choosing between the berry toast and the honey chevre toast and trusted the waitress’ suggestion of the honey chevre. For the entrée, I ordered the vegetable frittata and my boyfriend the chicken fried steak. He was torn between the 8 oz and the chicken fried but the waitress suggested the chicken fried so we went with her expertise. The honey chevre toast is grilled como loaf, candied hazelnuts & pecans, honey, goat cheese, balsamic reduction. Sounds heavenly but was not as sweet as we had hoped. There wasn’t enough honey to offset the flavor of the balsamic. It was not terrible but not at what we had hoped for. My vegetable frittata was okay but would have been better had there been no goat cheese at all. I am a huge fan of goat cheese but this really tasted dusty for some reason! I’m used to and a fan of the dryness of goat cheese but this was something different. Every bight I took left a terribly unpleasant taste in my mouth that reminded me of the smell of old windowsills. The potatoes that came on the side were delicious though. The chicken fried steak and eggs was also not quite as we had expected. I could see the batter on the outside looked almost non existent which would have been okay had the meat been of higher quality. He said that the gravy was quite good but overall the chicken fried steak just seemed like one you would get at a cheap buffet. The quality of the meat was very unimpressive and he was surprised as that dish was recommended by our waitress. Again, potatoes and eggs were good but it’s kind of hard to mess those up. Overall, I enjoyed the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff but I just didn’t enjoy the food and that’s really what we went there for.

My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a rainy night. The seating was fast despite how busy they seemed. They apparently staff well. I happen to work for one of the companies that supplies some of the wholesale food to them. I pleased to see our products used well and with finesse. My wife had the duck confit, which she loved. I had the trout, which was perfectly done and flaked off the bone. They served it with some nice greens which made a nice salad with the trout. Definitely one of the classier places we’ve been to and will certainly return. Job well done guys!

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here. I’d say the food quality was mixed. We had the fresh oysters which we thought were very good but, at the price they charge, they should be. Cocktails were good. My steak and frites was just OK – steak was on the tough side. My wife had the cajun risotto which she didn’t even comment on – not a good sign. Charged us for a couple of pieces of toast – bread apparently not included. Crème brule was good. Service was all right. We noticed a couple, who had been seated before us, ask the hostess where their waiter was. After a lot of apologizing, the waitress finally showed up. Who knows how long they had been waiting. Our service was perfunctory until we engaged the server in conversation at which time they began to show some interest. But the reason I’m writing this is the fact that we sat in the front section, just inside the door. It was freezing in there. My wife never even unbuttoned the top button of her overcoat. The fact that the chairs are made of metal didn’t help matters. It’s hard to concentrate on or enjoy the experience of dining out when your feet are freezing! Seriously, they need to consider putting space heaters under those tables – or pass out blankets! Overall, I’d say that this place has potential but it’s not there yet.

After reading the reviews here I had high hopes for this restaurant and was exited about the idea of a high quality dinner place in the hidden gem of Edmonds WA, alas we were severely disappointed. Food: Poor. The menu looks good, but, I wasn’t impressed by the execution. I had the Cajun Seared Shrimp & Scallops, risotto, tomato fennel broth, red chili flake, parmesan, watermelon radish. The three pieces of shrimp were the best part of the dish. The scallops were a bit chewy and the risotto had a strong finish of garlic; where is the tomato fennel broth? There was also no detectable flavor of red chili. Water: Poor. I consider the glass of water you get a restaurant to be an indication of how much the restaurant cares about the details. «tap» water is usually fine with me, but, even tap water should be filtered and at Salt and Iron it is not resulting in the unfortunate taste of heavy treated water. Get a few Brita pitchers for $ 20/each on Amazon and greatly improve the taste of your water. Service: Meh. Salt and Iron seems to use a tag-team model. We were visited by at least three different people. We had to ask for utensils after our desert as delivered. The hostess have an annoying habit of moving the drapes and peering around them so that they can see what tables are available. Atmosphere: Pretty good. The dining room is sparse and clean. In our case it was nicely decorated for the holidays. I was a bit surprised to see that they don’t use table cloths. Just a cold formica table top and metal chairs at this place. My only criticism is that the lighting is uneven and some tables are so dimly lit we had to use our mobile phones to read the menus. We’ll probably give this place one more try in a few months to see if they have improved. If they do I’ll update this review.

I was so excited to try Salt and Iron. I did not realize how busy this place is, and would recommend making a reservation. They were able to seat us without a reservation fairly quickly, but I think we got lucky. It looks nice inside, but there is this really odd hallway leading to the bathroom that just looks out of place and is a huge waste of space. We started with the charcuterie board and did the 5 for $ 25 option. We chose 3 meats and 2 cheeses. Everything was to our liking, but for being such a simple plate, it took a very long time to come out. We also ordered oysters, 2 types based on our servers recommendation. Oysters were good, again took a long while to come out. Also you might want to ask for hot sauce before you get the oysters as it takes them another few minutes to bring it. For our mains we ordered Cajun seared shrimp and scallops and the seafood pot, all to share. If they would have left out the Cajun on the menu description of both meals we would not have noticed because the Cajun flavor seemed to be missing in the food. The best part of the meal was the scallops, cooked perfectly. The seafood pot was pretty bland as far as flavor goes, but the seafood was cooked well without being overcooked. We ordered the chocolate hazelnut crème brule, and boy was it a hit! Delicious. Pricey place for average food.

Nice and new inside. Service was a little slow. Food took a long time to come out. Seafood pot– cajun spiced steamed clams, muscles, hamachi, shrimp, octopus, andouille sausage, and potatoes. I thought it needed a little more cajun flavor. The sausage was average, nothing special. Other than that, all the seafood was cooked perfectly. Cajun seared shrimp and scallop– everything was cooked nicely. Not overcooked at all. The star of the plate is the scallops. They should offer the same page but scallops only. Chocolate hazelnut crème brûlée– delicious! Just like a regular crème brûlée but with a chocolate hazelnut custard.

First off, just because you have Salt in your name, doesn’t mean it has to be aggressively used on every dish. My wife and I both feel like we have salt hangovers today. We shared the house salad, chowder and a burger. Drinks we’re good. Ambience is nice, prices are a little out of whack, $ 42 dollars for entrees in Edmonds? Far pricier than many more restaurants in Seattle with much higher quality food. Epulo down the street is a much better experience. Perhaps it was an off night… A cold rainy Monday night. I won’t say I’d never eat here again, but it would not be my first choice in Edmonds.

I tried Salt and Iron for the first time this evening during the Seattle Restaurant Week autumn campaign. Both me and my dining companion had nearly the exact courses: Starter homemade chips with dipping sauce which had some underlying heat. First course: Seafood Chowder Great presentation with generous seafood bits and potato, plus a toasted slice of artisan bread. But despite the drizzle of some sort of oil and freshly ground pepper — wasn’t getting much of a flavor profile.(Disclaimer: I was recovering from a bad cold, still congested and most likely my taste buds were out of whack). Second course: Steak Frites Accompanied with a side salad, medium rare steak topped with a chimichurri-type garnish and crispy onions or shallots, thin fries with another dipping sauce. Okay it’s not French quality steak frites, but our plates had eye-pleasant presentation and generous servings. BTW — no salt and pepper available at the table. Third course: vanilla gelato(no chocolate available) and she had the panna cotta. I received a lot of gelato with two toned chocolate cigarette garnish like TV antennas — reminded me of pastry school. At least, I didn’t get the dreaded mint sprig! Her panna cotta looked nice, but seemed lost and kind of monochromatic on an oversized white plate. Overall — very friendly, professional, seamless, unobtrusive service. Well paced courses. Decent dining value. We were there for 2 ½ hours and never felt rushed or hovered upon. Salt and Iron is a great addition to the downtown Edmonds restaurant scene, but I still prefer Epulo and Five slightly more. Maybe I’ll try it again when I have functional taste buds and no congestion!

Hands down, if you decide on visiting Edmonds visit this place to eat dinner. You’re expectations of food will be delighted by so many positive factors. Pros: 1. The motif is inviting. 2. Outdoor seating for people who have little critters. 3. Portion sizes are decent. 4. Food is expedited promptly to you. 5. Good presentation of food. 6. Not cramped or congested eating quarters. Cons: 1. Make a reservation ahead of time. If doing so, you ensure a spot. This place gets packed in a timely manner.

My boyfriend and I finally made it here for the final night of «Dine out Edmonds». Overall our experience was really great! The server was attentive and not overbearing, the ambiance was nice(one thing was that our table was right under a big light that was really bright and kept flickering so I would recommend sitting at a side table) and the food was delicious! One of the highlights of the night was the pumpkin and squash soup which was the perfect creamy texture and had awesome flavor. The avocado toast was also really yummy and try addition of red chili flakes gave it a nice little kick! The Manila clams were a little on the garlicky/salty side so they weren’t my favorite but my boyfriend seemed to enjoy them. I loved the steak I ordered, it was medium rare and juicy! The desserts and wine were also yummy, we will definitely be returning!

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Sunday night, unable to resist the siren song of a restaurant in any city north of Seattle receiving such scintillating reviews on Unilocal. For the most part, we were super impressed and I think we will be back for sure. We were welcomed by a hostess who was probably young enough to be my great-great-great-great-great granddaughter. Most tables were occupied… we could have gotten away with not making a reservation but it was a Sunday, and I think other nights get booked pretty solid. The restaurant is divided into several rooms, each with different décor and light levels. We were pretty close to the entrance, in the most brightly lit area… I might go for one of the other areas next time, but it was fine. Our server welcomed us pleasantly and shortly thereafter got our drink orders and gave us a small complimentary appetizer of housemade potato chips with an aioli dip… the chips came in a small cast-iron pan, which was a nice touch… they were quite good, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t like potato chips. The menu had lots of choices and we deliberated for a while my girlfriend enjoyed a glass of tempranillo and I had an outstanding bourbon old fashioned. She ended up ordering scallops with risotto and I got manila clams with linguini, and we also split two small plates of asparagus and roasted corn. All dishes were excellent for the most part: The asparagus was grilled just right and served with herbs and a sunny side up egg. Fantastic, but it did look like a big green hand with spindly fingers, so they could work on the presentation. The corn was terrific too – roasted just right with a spicy cream sauce that was delectable. It was on the cob, and they really should have split it into two because we were obviously going to share it and it was only by the grace of God above that I didn’t demolish anything while I attempted to split a piping hot ear of corn covered with sauce into two pieces with my stupid hands and a giant, ineffective steak knife. But I quickly forgot that experience and dove into my half of the corn… yummmmmmmm. My clams were great, and what truly blew me away about the dish was the linguini – I didn’t ask if they make it themselves or if they get it from a small artisan pasta company, but they were very easily the best linguini noodles I’ve ever had, anywhere, ever. No exaggeration. Great flavor, texture, cooked a perfect al dente and with a really lovely appearance – the noodles almost had a slight waviness to them. I’m still thinking about them, obviously. I tried a bite of my girlfriend’s dish, and I thought both scallop and risotto were too salty, but she seemed to enjoy it, so who am I to question. Plus by that time I was on bourbon old fashioned #2 so maybe my senses were messed up. A couple of knocks: Our server, who was nice and earnest, tried on two separate occasions to take plates from the table that were still being enjoyed; both times she had a hand on the plate and was lifting it off the table before she said«can I get this out of your way?» or whatever. Bad form. The music! It was weird! The interior of much of the restaurant almost has the feel of a nice house with, I dunno, a Mediterranean touch to it, but they were playing very odd music to go with that aesthetic, and it was a touch too loud. Examples: they played«Another One Bites the Dust,» which is a strange song to have on when you’re eating a dinner for two that’s going to cost over $ 100. Also, a smattering of Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, and they played that ukulele version of «Somewhere Over the Rainbow» two times. Yes, twice. In the span of about 20 minutes. Two times. I don’t know what would be more appropriate… maybe some big band music a la Louie Prima, or anything with a bit of date-night energy but that can nonetheless be in the background…“Another One Bites the Dust” is not a background song and it has no date-night energy unless you’re weird in the weird sort of way. Long review, sorry. Here’s the abridged Tarzan version: MELIKELINGUINI. MELIKESIDEDISHES. MENOLIKEMUSIC. MELIKEEATHERE, MECOMEBACKSOMEDAY.

Haven’t been to many places in Edmonds, but so far I’m impressed! Ordered the steak tar tar, clams and mussels, clams and mussels, raw oysters and a few beers. My favorite were the clams and mussels and the steak tar tar. Oh so delicious! The others were tasty as well, but the 2 really stood out. The atmosphere was great and the people were really really nice, but service was a little slow. Not sure if it was because they were understaffed as, it was Labor Day. Wasn’t a huge deal overall as I’d still go back for sure!

This place is situated perfectly in downtown Edmonds. Outside patio even has views of the water and is stanchioned off so the pedestrians don’t get in your way. The inside bar is lively! There is a TV for the sports fans– perfect for basketball playoff season as it is now. The dining area is perfectly tucked away for tranquility if you prefer that. The staff has outstanding customer service! I asked for differences between wines and the server immediately asked if I would like to sample each. Of course! The order: — complimentary homemade chips and aoli. –24 ounce steak– it’s huge but so worth the splurge for 2 people! Tender with an amazing green sauce to pair. –castraveltrano(sp?) olives with anchovies and pickled veggies. My favs. –cauliflower is a must try appetizer! –scallops and risotto: a whole lot of amazing risotto and delicious scallops –oysters are a must. First time in a LONG time they were perfectly shucked without any sand grit or shell with a shaved ice oyster sauce. REFRESHING! The name of the game is called Salt & Iron, Oysters and Steak, and it definitely backs itself up the name. I would definitely make reservations as it’s been booked even on weekdays and holidays! A must in Edmonds! Tip: They make their own cocktail concoctions in house and age them in house! Try one. There’s also happy hour but I haven’t made it yet.
