We had to try the top rated restaurant in Effingham and was not disappointed. I called them the night before to find out breakfast hours and the gentleman who answered was patient with all my questions. Stopped in at 8 am for breakfast with very few people inside. We sat ourselves(per the sign) and was quickly asked by Julie for our drink order. After a few minutes of prusing the menu we order and food came out quickly and hot. Corned beef hash is made fresh daily and is delicious. The Monte cristo, made with rumchata, has just the right amount of sweetness so no jam is required. Julie was extremely friendly and again, patient with our«out of towner» questions. We even purchased the coffee cups to take home as a souvenir. Would highly recommend this for any meal!

Oh wow! we stopped at this place on the way back from a road trip to atlanta right before arriving in Champaign. My friends and I all agreed that this was the best meal of our entire trip! I had their burritos and it was AMAZING!

Stopped here for lunch while we were on our way to the Shawnee national forest. I was put off by the exterior but don’t let that stop you from coming in! I love the atmosphere of this little pub. My boyfriend and I both ordered old fashions and they were very good. Our server(Ashley) was really friendly, spunky, and gave us great service. We both had burgers and out of all the burgess I’ve ever had they were definitely in my top 5! Needless to say I would definitely recommend this place 10 out of 10 times and I will definitely be back if I’m ever in Effingham again!

Driving through Effingham from Southern Illinois back to Chicago. Needed lunch break and did not want truck stop food. Unilocal reviews brought up almost nothing except chain food and places that sounded pretty mediocre. Not really looking for a hamburger and fries kind of a place and settled on GGAPB despite that because a) not a lot else and b) pretty good reviews. Even though GGAPB was a hamburger and fries kind of place we wound up pretty delighted. I had a beef sandwich; my wife had the pulled pork. Both were on above average rolls, both were extremely flavorful. Even though it was mid-afternoon on a Saturday, the place was busy and looks like it had a lot of locals who all seemed to be enjoying themselves. Service was prompt, attentive and very friendly. Would definitely be happy to go back if I’m hungry in Effingham ever again!

Driving through we decided to try Gabby Goat. We ordered the American Ragoons. Yum. I had the Kid burger with chicken, hubby had the sliders and daughter had the wings with a side of sweet potato fries. The dipping sauce for the fries were amazing. The food came out quick and did not dissapoint. This place has been added as a «GO» for the next time we are in the area.

Went for the first time today; all of our friends rant and rav about it on Facebook. Well, we weren’t disappointed, the experience was fantastic! Bloody Mary was great, BB Burger and sweet potato fries delightful. Staff was excellent, now I know what the talk is all about. Well done, Gabby Goat!

Driving back from Ohio to Missouri with my mom and we HAD to stop in Effingham. She just wanted to grab something fast and go; must have been delirious from the long drive or too famished to think or SOMETHING. I had heard great things about this mysterious place and dammit, we were gonna check it out! I convinced her, fortunately. It was around 9PM on Memorial Day and while it wasn’t packed it was still busier than I had expected(not sure why when their food is divine and their drinks menu vast). As much as I would have loved an icy beer, I’ve just had surgery and meds won’t allow it. Next time, though. While we struggled with what to order for entrees, our server recommended the steak bites and American Rangoon to start. They were both incredible, seriously! We got the steak done medium well and it was tender, melt in your mouth, perfect with a bit of that bacon horseradish. The American Rangoon were so so so good. They’re crispy but inside is creamy, smoky, salty Heaven. You’re given two dipping sauces and while we were disappointed with the fajita sauce, the southwestern ranch was awesome. My mom was too full to get an entrée but being the bottomless pit that I am, I went ahead and ordered the Effing“ham” burger with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. The fries were hot and delicious, served with some kind of sweet glaze sauce for dipping. The burger was perhaps my least favorite, actually. It was nothing special and the sliced deli ham on top added nothing to the burger. Next time I’ll try the cheesesteak sandwich I was eyeballing. Overall, if you’re hungry in Effingham PLEASE come here! It is truly a gem, tucked away amongst sleepy houses and tiny businesses, but worth the search. They’ve a big ol’ sign with a goat on it anyway so I doubt you’ll miss that. The staff are friendly, the food is a total hit, and you can’t beat the drinks offerings.

On way home to indiana after 12 days of vacation in branson, after all the great food from vacation didn’t even know what we wanted. .after reading reviews decided to try The Gabby Goat. It was amazing! Was very busy but service was great. I had the Taco Salad, and my husband had The Horseshoe. Both were excellent. We have already talked about coming back. If you are in Effingham you don’t want to miss this place

Killing it as a great bar & grill! Fast service even though it was super busy. Shared full nacho w/beef. Yum! Amazing craft beer(bottles) & decent selection on tap. Passing through from Cleveland to Kansas City. Will hit this place again if we spend the night.

Good stuff at the Goat! Great food, reasonable price, and although I’ve been there by myself each time… seemingly good times. Staff accommodated my wish to view a game. Great beer list.

If you ever find yourself in Effingham(or passing through on I-70), you must stop in at the Gabby Goat. I was in the area and knew that Horseshoes were popular in this part of the state, so we decided to hit this place and try one. The Horseshoe isn’t all that complicated — 2 ground beef patties served open-face on 2 pieces of Texas toast, topped with fries and covered in cheese sauce. But it is delicious. The inside of the Gabby Goat is pretty neat because the walls are plastered with old movie posters and quotes from famous movies. They have drink specials every day(Wednesday was $ 3 craft bottles of beer) and you can even have your growlers filled with the draft beers. Prices overall are very reasonable. The total for a beer, an iced tea, an order of fried mac & cheese bites, and a horseshoe(which we split because it was so big) was only $ 24. They serve breakfast too and the items on that menu looked pretty good(Example: Monte Cristo made with French Toast soaked in Cinnamon Rumchata)

The Porkopolis Burger was invented by me because Effingham was designed after Cincinnati aka Porkopolis. This is how we make burgers in Zinzinnati. American Swiss Cheddar Grilled onions Blackened burger Pulled pork Pickles Mustard Pretzel bun BBQ sauce is a welcome addition. The world’s best selling BBQ sauce is Montgomery Inn from Cincinnati. Very good burger good music and good beers… word class service. Super casual but a burger place worth the trip. I like it!!!

I had the Effin Ham burger it was delicious, nice and juicy. My boyfriend had the pulled pork, it was tender juicy and the fries are amazing! We also had the fried Gouda Mac and cheese bites and I could have eaten those all by them selves. .SOGOOD! The restaurant was nice and clean with a nice atmosphere. The only reason I chose not to give 5 stars is because the waitress I feel was so used to having regulars come in that before we even had menus asked us if we knew what we wanted to drink and if we were ready to order. We will be going back on one of our trips to Effingham.

Perhaps I had high expectations due to all the positive reviews, or maybe I didn’t have anything to drink, so I didn’t get into the groove of things, but my overall experience here was mediocre. I came here during the lunch hour rush. The place was around 60% full and even then the areas seems to be a bit jammed. I’m guessing on a crowded day, this place will get tight. The overall cleanliness was good, and seemed to be maintained well. The servers were friendly, and did well in taking the order. For my first visit we got the mac-n-cheese bites to share and I had the ribeye sandwich with fries and asked for cheese on the fries. The mac-n-cheese bites did not take long to come out to the table and they disappeared quickly as they tasted good. In my view, the sandwich took a little longer to come out, than I would have anticipated. The presentation was a bit disappointing, a thin sandwich, kinda of on the small size and the fries didn’t come out with the cheese. Which I was disappointed with as I like the cheese smothered all over my fries. Although the sandwich was nothing much to look at, I must say, it actually tasted really good. The roll itself was nice and fresh. The meat was cooked as ordered, very tender and it did not require a knife to be eaten. The fires were just okay, as was the cheese. Over all, this place is okay, but nothing special. I’ll certainly come back here and try other items and give another update.

Really great food! The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was it was hard to get service. Had to ask for a fifth chair when that sad us at a table for four. Didn’t bring us silverware and the hostess would not come back by. I would have loved to try some of their awesome beer selection but could not get one of them over to order it. But to the positives. The price was right where is should be. The fried pickles were an awesome appetizer. I got a burger and it was cooked well. Everyone at my table got burgers and they all looked great. A lot of tvs to watch football. Great bar/grill. I would easily go back and give another server a shot.
