I traveled from Nashville to Northern Illinois in a vehicle that had not been operated for a few years so I decided to handle it in two days instead of one long haul and take my time and not push the car. I set up my overnight at this Hampton Inn in Effingham, Illinois. Hampton Inn has two hotels at this highway interchange. A much newer one on the west side and this original one. I was told at the front desk that Hampton Inn’s policy now is for all its hotels to have a minimum of 4 floors and this older one couldn’t build on to the existing foundation. Hampton Inn was going to let it go but has decided to keep it on a 3 month to month arrangement since it was still profitable. It is two floors with a small exercise gym and a pool area. There is an area for morning breakfast which is included in the price. This Hampton Inn’s price was decided lower than the newer one across the highway. The room was of adequate size. A/C was provided with one of those under the window mounted units. I turned it off after a couple of hours because it was getting too cold in the room. The wifi worked in my room. The bed was very comfortable with those Hampton Inn multiple pillows you get at each one. Everything in the room was clean. Very quiet at night. Breakfast was adequate, nothing fancy, with both hot and cold items. I would stop here again on my way through Illinois. Hope Hampton Inns keep it on there list of hotels.

#1 in my book for hotels as a business traveler, it has to be clean. This hotel is definitely well kept and clean. It might not be the trendiest of Hamptons I have seen, but I would stay here again. The fitness room leaves much to be desired. Just 2 cardio machines. No weights but they have a scale that rings in 1 pound too light, so it gives you a nice little confidence boost. They have an emergency phone in the fitness room just in case you get a little too crazy on the treadmill and need medical attention. Front desk staff seemed very friendly and even called to check and see how my room was. Compared to other Hamptons I’ve stayed at, it’s a solid 3 to 3.5 stars.

Old and outdated Hampton Inn. Nothing more nothing else to say.
