Tent camped at Lake Sara before my Triathlon, which was literately 100 yards from the starting line. I didn’t speak to the management, just found an empty spot and set up camp. There were a couple sites with fire pits and picnic tables, our spot had neither. But we grilled on a hibachi grill and we’re just fine. The bathrooms and showers were generally clean(for camp ground standards), had hand soap and paper towels, the shower water was hot and the pressure was better than my apartment. They even had coin laundry machines, probably more useful for the RV campers who stay for prolonged periods. If I ever come back to Effingham, I’ll be camping here again – can’t be free!

Well, I was allowed to tent camp overnight for free, I would probably be more upset if I had to pay. Management was pretty unhelpful and did not seem to care much. The area is fine, not really well marked or anything. In a pinch it works, but there are probably better local campgrounds.
