Simply, I love watching the aircraft land. There is a really nice stretch of fence you can park and watch while having lunch, or coffee in the morning. Gillespie has all sorts of aircraft from helicopters, to small Cessnas, to large business jets. Channel 8HELO flies out of Gillespie, so be sure to look for it coming in over the fence. Get here on the weekend and you have a chance to watch bi-planes as well as other unique aircraft. Gillespie is a good size airport and has a popular school, so you will be sure to find takeoffs, landings, touch-and-goes everyday!

At the Air Croup One Air Show.,.A great event for the entire family! Lots of Ames to see and an amazing air show too! Plenty of food and vendors to fill the time between events. Put it on your calendar to visit each year!

I fly out of Gillespie, contrary to y he negative reviews I find it quite safe and the controllers are very good. To the people who live around the airport, you bought a house near the airport. We pilots are not her working our hardest to make your life miserable. We try and fly quietly as much as possible. Gillespie is far safer and has more competent controllers than many other airports.

For those who complain about the noise should remember that in February 1944, the camp was commissioned as Marine Corps Auxiliary Airfield and it occupies 788 acres, when was your house built and how many acres do you have? It is not like they put the airport here to infringe on your property rights. If you don’t like the noise you shouldn’t have bought near it. If you want to be a good neighbor get dual pane windows and turn up your TV.

I really enjoy watching the planes here. Sometimes you can also see mercy air, the sheriffs department, or old military planes fly in and out of here. They also have a really cool air show I believe once a year. It’s been an El Cajon icon as long as I’ve been alive.

This airport is horrible! Constant noise from touch and goes and planes buzzing our homes day and night. Airport officials do not seem to care about the constant noise in our neighborhood enough to set restrictions and monitor the situation!

I am appalled that you would filter a negative review yet showcase two positive reviews.

My husband flies from here instead of using the Montgomery Field Airport. I’m not a pilot, so I can’t really get into anything technical here. I just know he gave it 5 stars!

Gillespie Field is the best airport in Southern California! I have been flying out of here since 2007 and I love it. The controllers are very patient and professional. Also it does not have the marine layer problem like Montgomery has, so it is mostly VFR. This is a great little airport with 2 parallel runways and 1 cross runway. If you’re flying into San Diego, definitely fly into Gillespie!
