Better than average Tex Mex located right off the interstate. It’s locally-owned, & the staff are very friendly. We had a few different kinds of enchiladas, & all were good. The ranchera sauce has a nice kick, too.

Amazing food. Best Mexican I’ve ever had. Don’t expect professional chef and amazing décor, come expecting outstanding food in a hole in the wall joint. I had the chicken fajita burrito. Hubs had the Laura’s fajitas. Homemade tortillas. Of course you can tell it’s all homemade! Pros Homemade Mexican food The food was outstanding Efficient staff Quick service Mexican coke– hard to find in a restaurant Creamy green sauce served with chips Flour chips available Breakfast available too Pick up window available Cons Hole in the wall so it’s a bit run down Someone mentioned flies in an earlier post… There were 1 – 2 but no more than I’d expect at a place like this. It was actually pretty clean for a hole in the wall! I could smell the cleaner.

Stopped in our way back from a scout night in Corpus Christi on the USS Lexington. My friend had the Carne Asada. Came on a sizzling plate with all the fixings. He plowed through it. His scout had an ok chicken soup. My scout and I shared the Chicken fajita enchilada. It was tasty and side guacamole and lettuce/tomato was fresh. Hand made tortillas, tortilla chips, and the warm salsa was a little watery. Would have given it a 4 star except place needed a good clean. The 10+ flies and the floors needed a good mop. Had a ton of help present just not as organized as they could be.

I had Laura’s for lunch last week after a recommendation by a business owner in town. I was not disappointed. I had a seafood dish and it was very delicious. There was lots of food. The waitress was very kind and checked on me often. I never had an empty water glass and I really appreciated that. Lunch menu has very reasonable prices. I would recommend it!

Since H & I were going to be around El Campo during lunch we wanted to eat somewhere local. Not a chain. Some hidden little gem. So like Gloria on Modern Family I decided to check«Jelp» & found Laura’s Café. Looked it up on the map & found Laura’s is located right off 59&71N(across the street from the cemetery for those who need a visual marker). This place is a tired looking hole in the wall but clean on the inside. We were greeted & shown a table. Drink orders taken while we took a gander at the menu. Listed were the usual combination plates & specialties(with pictures). The menu had(surprisingly) a few pages & I advise taking a good look at all of the offerings instead of choosing the first thing that looks good. A very nice selection of chicken dishes with a variety of toppings & sauces. They have about 10 different fajitas options which all sounded good. I was in the mood for beef & spicy so I decided on the Beef Fajitas Indomable(which I read as indomitable at first glance). H opted for the enchilada & steak combo. Our food came out quickly, both on sizzling platters. The BFI was smothered in a fiery looking red sauce with chunks of tomatoes, fresh jalapeños & quite a few chili seeds visible. For a second I had second thoughts about ordering something that looked so freakin’ spicy but damn it smelled divine. So I dug in and while it did have a very nice kick the burn didn’t linger nor did it burn my lips. I don’t know what they put in this sauce but I wished they bottled it! The beef was good, not the best quality but the sauce more than made up for this. I ended up sharing with H as he was less than impressed with his steak but he did enjoy the enchiladas(1 cheese &1 chicken). Their table sauces were good. Red which was mild & a creamy-ish green which was a bit spicy. Chips were thin & not greasy. So if you find yourself traveling along this stretch of 59, drop by Laura’s & fill your belly with the Beef Fajitas«Indomitable».

So you’re on the highway and it’s how much further to Houston and all the eateries you can choose from there but your stomach just can’t wait… what can you do? You pull out your phone and go to your trusty Unilocal app; and behold a rare gem of a little restaurant is dropped in your lap. The exterior– questionable. The sign has a former tenants info bleeding through and those infamous year round Christmas lights. The interior– even more questionable. The shell of Dairy Queen screaming at you with a paint stir stick holding the table level and a 3 foot picture of the Virgin Mary taking it’s place alongside the 32″ TV mounted haphazardly on the wall. BUTTHEFOOD… OHTHEDELICIOUSNESS!!! This place serves up a party in your mouth. The salsa(green served cold, red served warmed) are great. The queso came next, and our anticipation mounted. Then with subtle glory our food was laid before us. The Christmas lights vanished from memory, and this shell of a Dairy Queen became an amazing little Mexican restaurant somewhere in the Western Caribbean. The fajitas were perfect and so tender you could cut them with a fork. The tortillas freshly made; soft and warm. The guacamole and pico were divine, and the rice with it’s weird little pieces of peas and carrots was surprisingly tasty. My love had chicken enchiladas with sour cream sauce, and couldn’t have loved them more.(he’s clearly a man of fewer words than me) All I can say is Thank You Unilocal!!!

This is a good place to eat probably one of the best for Mexican food in El Campo. The variety is very good and they have daily specials on a little chalk board by the register when you come in. I like the fact that you can get different kinds of fajita’s. The refried beans are the best I have ever had.

Simply the best Mexican food in El Campo! The tortilla soup, hot sauce, green sauce and chicken fajitas are my favorite.

I heard that Laura was a sort of local Mexican cuisine legend to no dismay. Service was fantastic — chips & salsa came quick and the margaritas were fantastic. Her fajita special was fantastic and a real steal for $ 10. Definitely going to add this one to the rotation when I’m in El Campo.
