The restaurant for our wedding banquet recommended Ivan to provide DJ and music services. After one email and one phone conversation, we agreed on a price. My wife asked me to email him to confirm the date, time, and price. His one word email reply was «Confirmed.»
Day of the wedding rolls around, we have our ceremony, go take some pics, then head over to the restaurant. Our friends who were helping us with the set up told us that the DJ never showed up and when they called Ivan, he replied that he had nothing on his calendar for the night.
I dig up the email on my phone, give him a call back, to which he admits that he had messed up. His reasoning is that he just got a new iPhone and did not know how to use it. He offered to send over a DJ in 45 minutes, but who knows how long set up was going to take.
Thankfully, the restaurant had a karaōke system and microphone and we were able to get another friend to MC for the night. No one noticed, but I definitely cannot recommend Ivan. On your wedding night, there’s enough things to worry about let alone vendor services who do not show up.

I have Ivan Kwan to be my MC for my upcoming wedding reception. His package has already included a DJ. He was highly recommended by a few friends of mine, and I personally have seen his performance at a friend’s wedding reception. Ivan can speak fluent English, Mandarin and Contonese, so it is a huge plus for me because I had been looking for a MC who is bilingual in Cantonese and English.
Ivan’s charge is very affordable and yet he offers professional event planning services. I had already met with Ivan twice to go through the rundown and he made sure that I understand that if I need his advice we can talk on phone or meet as many times as I want! He is willing to work with your budget and ideas, too. If you happen to have yet to look for other vendors from florists, lighting, photographers to slideshow specialists he can refer you to a few. Ivan gave me consultation in different areas and he is more like a wedding planner for me! Ivan had been in this industry for 15+ years (part-​time) and therefore he’s very experienced in what he does.
I highly recommend Ivan for people who are looking for bilingual MC for their wedding event. I will update this review post-​wedding.
UPDATE: Ivan was excellent, like all my family and friends said. Ivan is a quick responder and is able to make us laugh all the time. Overall, based on feedback from people, the wedding was entertaining and fun. The songs that I requested were all there… time management and lighting control was perfect. I highly recommend him for any events, but he’s always booked in advance…
