This hole-in-the-wall spot looks super sketchy and down-right janky… but man-oh-man is their roast pork belly, roasted duck and house special chicken GOOD!!! My boyfriend and I order those 3 items from here so often, the owner has started to remember us. A whole steamed chicken is $ 15.99 and comes with a ginger dipping sauce(we always ask for extra cause my boyfriend loves it and they give the tiniest containers). A whole duck cost $ 18.99 and always incredibly flavorful, though I’ve found the consistency of how much meat we actually get to vary. Sometimes it feels like our box has a lot more bone than meat, but, it’s not overwhelmingly bones, so its ok The crispy roasted pork belly sent from heaven… oh…my…goodness! Seriously, if you order anything from here… make it this!!! The skin is the crispiest, crunchiest skin EVER! It’s seasoned well and is just oozing fat(which can be off-putting to some, understandably… but come on, if you’re ordering roasted pork belly and don’t have oil dripping off of it, there’s something wrong). when we order those 3 items, we also get a soup-sized container to what appears to be the juice/marinade that comes off the duck? Not entirely sure, seen people on Unilocal call it a soup… I just know that when we go home, we take it and pour it over our rice and it is PERFECTION!!! Seriously, if it wasn’t so far from us, my boyfriend would probably be here every single week. As of now, our visits our contained to 1 – 2 times a month.

My wife is from Hong Kong, and this place is just like home for her. I enjoy the food because I appreciate the value and taste of the food here. It is a piece of Hong Kong for me and my wife. If you love Cantonese food, well here it is!

A hole in a wall located in a high traffic area on Garvey. I’ve tried one thing here and one thing only. The roasted pork belly. At nearly $ 16 per lb this place is pricey. But if you like like pork belly, then this place is hard to beat. The cuts tend to be generously fatty. Also CASHONLY and I recommend calling in your order and placing an accurate time for pick up. The freshness is what determines the taste and texture of the crispy skin and succulent meat/fat. My goto place.

I came here cause I wanted to really try their roast pork. I was pretty disappointed. It wasn’t as good as I was hoping for. I have had wayyy better roast pork in the SGV area. They have a lot of dishes that are about 6 or 7 dollars, but they didn’t have a lot of good flavor in it. The food was pretty bland. There is a lot of parking in the plaza!

I use to live near this area and never got a chance to try this place out. This restaurant is not particularly inviting in appearance and the outer area looks sketchy to say the least. Food: Roast Pork Belly — The 2nd best roast pork I’ve had in my life! I was a bit skeptical because we came late and it was the last order left. I was hesitant to take the order, but decided to give it a shot anyway. Very clean flavor. Somehow they picked a piece of meat that has the perfect fat to meat ratio. They toasted the skin before serving it to us so the skin was super crispy. Fried pork ribs — Loaded with fried garlic. It was decent but nothing I can’t get elsewhere. Stir fried A vegetable — Huuuge portion of vegetables for $ 5. It was a bit oily and the garlic bits didn’t look too appealing. Flavor was good overall. Service: Lady speaks primarily Chinese. She was attentive and polite which is not what one usually can expect at establishments like this. Environment: Sketchy guy walks towards me as I exit my car. We hold eye contact until he passes me. He walks into the plaza into a dark area and just stands there… not sure what he is doing but when I finished my meal the cops were present and he seemed startled. Not the ideal location to dine at night… this restaurant looks like the perfect place for a quick hold up from someone desperate. This is a quick eat and go type of place. I’d recommend it more for lunch and to go orders for dinner. Roast Pork Belly is a must try! Everything else appear to be average. Will be back a few more times to check other items out. Price: Very low prices. Pork belly came out to be like $ 10 but the other two items were $ 5(vegetable) and $ 7 for pork ribs. Enough food for 3 — 4 people. Food: 4 Service: 4 Environment: 2 Price: 5

The three pitfalls for Chinese stir fry is salt, oil, and MSG, and it is almost always too much, not too little. If you are good on all three, your cooking should be at the very least all right if not very good, or even great. Ruby is good on all there, so they are good. Their prices are good – not very good since they just changed their menu and raise their prices. With the current trend of everything going up – cost of foods, wages, rents and all other expenses – they really have no choice, but to raise their prices, which was very low. The thing that keep them from getting five stars is they are a hole in the wall. Good place for take out and to go – not a place for a fancy dinner. I had most of the items on the menu. It is all good, so come for a good, inexpensive meal.

A small family owned restaurant. Food was good. Came here especially for their lunch menu, which is the same price for dinner. They give big portions on most plates I ordered. The only plate that was small was the tofu seafood. We downed the complimentary soup and requested another serving for free. As I was eating, I saw many walk-in customers asked for to go. It seems to be the thing to do since this place was pretty small. Overall, I would come here again.

My husband randomly saw this restaurant one day and got obsessed with trying the duck he saw hanging. We finally just decided to come. We loved the duck and the Singapore noodles. The food seemed very fresh. At first we were the only ones in there but then more people started coming. Awesome little place.

I had high expectations for this place since there are so many good reviews and one of my friends personally told me the pork was good here. I can’t say no to some good roast pork. When I arrived it was easy to find parking in the plaza and the restaurant was empty for a weekend. The menu was smaller than I expected since I thought they had just given us a lunch special menu but that was it. I decided to order the the eggplant, roast pork, shrimp with spicy salt, and roast duck. The eggplant was good, and the roasted pork was crispy and delicious. The duck was okay but the plum sauce they gave us was very watery and they gave us packet plum sauce for the rest we took togo. The shrimp dish was small and lacked flavor; I felt like I needed to add the salt on my own. And there was a few shrimps that were a bit black. Which grossed me out a bit and shows that it wasn’t fresh or were left out too long. Service was okay. The lady was on her phone when she had nothing to do. May be a bit short staffed or unorganized since there were a total of three tables and about four customers and we had to wait a little while to get our check. Prices are decent but with my experience I’m not sure if I would return here.

huge portion, cheap, and good quality dishes and free rice and soup! And the rice they gave you are the good kind… that says a lot from a asian rice bucket like me! I order four dishes to go and they gave not like one big box but TWO! and I am so not used to it these days cause most place charge for rice these days… if they don’t, the rice«quality» usually go downhill… but not with ruby BBQ. then, let’s talk about their #1 dish! Macau special pork, but crispy roast BBQ pork in Canton/HK(siu yuk)…Almost every 626BBQ places I have been… they give you siu yuk(roast crispy pork) by pound, and they OFTEN put bones in it, not in Ruby’s, when they give you the pork(Macau special pork) is all meat and skin and glory! and when you are done with the pork, please don’t throw away the sauce and the oil and the fatty stuff juice, that THEBESTPART … pair it with white rice! even I love animals, after you have that bite of tasty white jasmine rice, fatty, salty, savory, sauce with that smokiness in the juice… you can never go vegetarian. sorry, I will try better next time and be more aware to eat less animals for our friends and our planet! Ruby is totally hidden gem and I am glad my hong kong friend told me about this place, cause it’s love at first sight for me… hope this relationship would last!

Five stars for the char siu and roasted pork. My family always orders these two for dinner at home. Once, they used pork neck for their char siu and I swear it was the best fattiest charred char siu I’ve had in a while. The roasted pork is exclusively made from the belly and cut into manageable bite sized pieces, crispy, and boneless. It’s so good. There’s nothing else to say.

This place has the best roasted pork in the 626 area! The skin is crispy but not too dried, the fat and the non fat balanced perfectly. Must try if youre a roasted pork fan! But please call ahead to check availability.

Was passing by hungry and giving this place a shot. Upon walking in, it’s such a small place with only 7 tables! But I proceeded upon going in for their lunch specials. Order the Szechuan style pork, string bean with beef, seafood with bean curd, pork chop Peking style, and the infamous roast pork.(I was hungry lol) all of which were higher than my expectations! It was a little too oily though… But tasty. Whole in the wall recommend!

I’m going to give RUBYBBQFOOD high praise for their SIUYUK aka Roast Pork aka Suckling Pig, it’s one of the best I’ve ever had in that the meat isn’t gamy; it’s a good balance of «the other white meat» portions, so it’s the perfect cut from the best side of the pig; there’s no bones, grizzly joints or big chunks of fat; and the skin on top is crispy not oily and light, so not chewy nor hard as other places sometimes has it. I’m going to have to come back to try the Roast Duck too, as it looked pretty good. We also tried the Sweet and Sour Fish, which I think was deep fried boneless rock cod fillets. The portions were plentiful and the pieces were tasty. We also tried the Beef Chow Fun, the dry style, not the gravy wet style, and that’s the way most Cantonese restaurants prepare it. It was good, solid and reliable. I had the Siu Lim Bao, Shanghai«Soup» Dumpling, which was okay, not as good as the legendary Din Tai Fung, but it’s hard for any restaurant to measure up to that standard. It was good here nonetheless ‘tho. They gave us complimentary soup too. They have a fridge with sodas, and a 12 oz can is $ 1, for Coke or 7up and customers help themselves(but of course pay for it as it’s added to the bill) The service was friendly. When they’re doing catering and preparing large orders, I sense they can be neglectful of customers dining in. I was sitting around for about 5 – 10 minutes before being acknowledged on my visit, but once they were clear of the chaos, the service was fast and friendly. Parking was easy in the lot, as it shares space with a lot of retail stores that don’t have much foot-traffic, I don’t think. It’s right off the freeway, so sort of convenient to get to if you’re in the area. The prices are fair, I’d say about $ 8 per person after tax and tip and you can go «family style» to enjoy a variety of tasty flavors too, or take home leftovers if you over order when you’re eyes are bigger than your stomach.

I came here after I complained to one of my Unilocal friends about Roast Duck and Roast Pork on my side of town. She recommended Ruby BBQ to me. They are mom and pop restaurant located in what used to be a shopping complex, located in the front of the complex. Their neighbor to the back appears to be a sewing factory. Parking was available right in front. The woman server working there was nice for a Chinese server and seated me promptly. After ordering their BBQ Duck and Roast Pork Rice, they brought out a complmentary soup. Even though I was by myself, they brought out a large bowl of soup for me. It was enough soup for four people. The BBQ Duck and Roast Pork Rice came out shortly thereafter. The Roast Pork was made with pork belly. It was seasoned and roasted to perfection. It was one of the better ones that I have tried. The Roast Duck was good; better than the roast duck on my side of town. The dish came with a generous portion of rice. Ruby BBQ does a good job with their Chinese BBQ, at least for the roast duck and roast pork. I may be back if in the area.

My parents really wanted to try this place out after my dad heard some pretty good reviews from a friend. It isn’t located in a convenient restaurant area place, so you do have to drive out to El Monte if you’re not in the area. A pretty small restaurant with maybe about 10 or less tables. They have lunch specials that range from $ 5.99 and up and if you dine in, they give you a large bowl of soup! The dishes came out quite slow. We actually got each one, almost finished it, before getting the next. The overall quality wasn’t bad though. We ordered the chinese broccoli sauteed with diced fish(not sure if that’s the English name) — good dish but not enough of the fish. The house special chicken wasn’t as tasty as other places(Tasty Garden, etc). The chicken was warm and tasted like it had been overcooked! Usually this type of chicken is served cold/lukewarm. The two redeeming dishes were the roasted duck and the roasted pork belly. The roasted pork belly is a must try. Small pieces of really really good pork belly with just the right amount of pork, the pork fat and the crispiness from the skin. You didn’t even need the BBQ sauce! And the roasted duck(which came really really late because they said they needed to cook it extra in the oven or something) was also really good. A pretty big plate of duck(more than Sam Woo’s) and the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The sauce wasn’t too flavorful, but still a good dish. We came in around 1 on Saturday and the restaurant was pretty empty. But after we sat down, a lot of different tables came in, too! They only accept cash. The service could be a bit friendlier,(I guess I’m used to people saying«thank you! come again soon! after walking out whereas the workers just stared at us as we left) and the dishes could be served in a timelier manner, but I definitely recommend the pork belly and roasted duck!

This place replaced the old Curry &BBQ Plus. Hardly anything has changed appearance wise minus a few new pictures and some crossed out things on the old menu. It doesn’t seem like the same cook is running it anymore because of their old specialties such as their curried peking duck is no longer on the menu. I came here looking for the macau style roast pork, but it was sold out. I’m actually not sure if these guys do the macau style or the hk style, but we’ll see when I come back next time. The new owner was nice enough, and I could tell from the dialect of their customers that this place is probably relatively legit. In this particular first visit, I ended up getting the roast duck. Not bad, not bad at all. You can tell that there was great care in properly air drying the duck first. The skin was crisp and just the right color. The quality of the meat was just right, and the duck less salty than their older counterpart. I did wish that the duck itself had a bit more of that five spice seasoning. It was good that it wasn’t too salty, but I also wanted a bit more of that anise based scent and rub on the duck. I will probably come back to see if they have the macau style pork and report back, but while this isn’t the awesome(but short lived) Curry BBQ Plus, it’s not a terrible drop off either… at least from the roast duck view.
