3 stars… When in El Paso I try to get to this joint for the marbled brisket. With my bride so we opted for the 3 meat platter to share. Brisket was the highlight but we also had the pork ribs(not worth the up charge) and the hot link sausage. If I had to do it over I would have stuck to a large portion of the brisket… tender and smoky pigness! Prices are in line with expectation and ambiance is buckaroo bario. This joint stays on the list for BBQ in El Paso, but if any competition moves in all bets are off.

Pork ribs, sausage links, brisket and stuff. Best I’ve had in a long time! GOODBBQ sauce. Shout Out to ‘Manny’ for his awesome service! I had to end the meal with their Apple Cobbler n Vanilla Bean Ice Cream dessert. @hookdaddy0

Place is ok. A little over priced. I had the pork ribs and brisket. Sauce was good. They were limited on sides. Only had potato salad and slaw and beans. That was disappointing. I was also disappointed that they only had 1 kind of sauce.

Visited this place last fall while on a cross country trip. The ambience in this place was amazing. Great beer courtyard and ranch house interior. I was all hyped for a great bbq dinner. I ordered brisket, my husband had ribs. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy night. Food was just so so, not great as I expected. Probably wouldn’t go back unless it’s just to have a beer and appetizer in the beautiful courtyatd.

Food was good! I also ordered the sautéed mushrooms app which was delicious! Loved the potato salad and slaw. The service was also good and it was fast!

As always, this place is still as good as the first time I ate at Stateline ages ago.

In town visiting and we wanted a good meal. This place was great! We had the sausage, brisket, chicken, turkey, pulled pork, and a beef rib with the sides. Everything was great my fave was the sausage, rib, and chicken. It was clean and had great customer service. Although it was busy we got our food served to us timely(we went on a Tuesday night). Will definitely go back next time we are in the area!

After two visits, I’ve decided I can warrant a positive review of The State Line BBQ restaurant in west El Paso. On different occasions, I’ve had the three meat platter twice — turkey, sliced brisket, and sausage… And tonight I had the pulled pork. All very plentiful and delicious! The sauce is good, but not the greatest, but I’m partial to some sauces back home. Visiting the State Line makes traveling in from Fort Worth feel a little more like home — hearty food & friendly staff, going above and beyond to satisfy the customer. Looking forward to the next visit!

Not the worst BBQ and not the best, just somewhere in between. Ordered the moist brisket and baby back ribs, no sides and was delivered to me fairly quickly. Both items came smothered in sauce that wasn’t bad but next time I’ll make sure to order them dry. Brisket was tender with a decent smokey taste, not bad at all actually pretty good in fact. Baby backs were a mini slab of about 4 bones. However a tad dry and not very meaty. Going to have to try the beef ribs next time. So all I can say if your in the area it’s worth a shot, 3 stars.

We came on a Monday night and we were seated right away, no wait. I started with a Margarita which was ok but not that great. We opted for the all you can eat. The whole table must get it to count. We got the second choice which came with your choice of 5 meats, sides, bread, and ice cream. Between the two of us we could barely finish one platter. The ribs and pulled pork were yummy. I’m obsessed with their BBQ sauce. They normally don’t allow to go bags for the all you can eat, but they gave us a few plates to go since it was close to closing time.

A day later and I’m still feeling full wow the rib king player so much food and so good, I will say I did prefer the beef ribs over the baby backs they seemed to have more of a BBQ flavor.

The first thing you should know about State Line is: You will wait. And wait. And wait. Don’t think you’re going to State Line and you’ll be home in an hour or so… carve out two hours(or so) from your life. Or you know, call ahead and make a reservation/put your name on the waiting list. We don’t have many serious BBQ joints in EP and honestly SL is top of the line. Oh and in case you were wondering why it’s called«State Line», it’s because it literally sits on the state line of Texas and New Mexico. Kinda cool, eh? Old timey memorabilia is all over. Yeah, okay… there’s some new stuff too. It definitely makes the wait for a table a little easier when there’s so much around that is vying for your attention. Everything about SL feels like old school restaurant hospitality. You know, where everyone is nice, but they aren’t going to take any of your shit. Good stuff. The waiting area is next to the bar in the front, you just hook a left. The last few times I’ve been my party(regardless of size) has waited around 30ish minutes. The good news is a waiter always comes and checks on the people waiting so you can always order a drink or two in the meantime. The dining area is busy. No matter where you sit. But a good kind of busy. All of the servers are weaving in and out of tables while carrying huge trays of food. The place is always a little loud, but never so loud that you can’t have a convo. Ahhh… the food. I like a good BBQ sauce and SL has a good one. All the usual suspects are on the menu. Everything is good(not great, but good). My personal favorites are the pork kebabs, the bbq sausage, and the brisket. You also get some complimentary bread that is made in house. Pretty yummy. You can purchase additional loafs and sometimes it’s really hard not to. There’s only one thing I’ve tried that I just wasn’t a fan of and that’s the bread pudding. Now, I know bread pudding has raisins… but when I ordered theirs, it was just a whole lot of nope for me. Too many raisins. I ended up picking out about half and then I found it pretty tasty. That may just be a raisin preference thing though so don’t let that scare you from trying. If nothing else, just load up on their bread because it’s damn good.

FOOD: 4 stars — ordered 3 meat combo. must have the baby back ribs and sausage. both delicious. I also had their version of moist brisket(I believe they refer it to 2nd tier) it was average. potato salad and cole slaw were enjoyable. SERVICE: 2.5 to 3 stars — average(had to get my own fork/spoon. although I was part of a large group, always had a full beer. BARSELECTION: 2.5 stars(improvement needed in craft beer selection) TOTAL: 3.5 stars.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. We ordered ribs, there was no smoke flavor and I don’t know what is up with that sauce they use. Was not a fan of the coselaw, potato salad or beans. If I had to recommend something I’d say the homemade bread. We’d have been happier eating at Texas Roadhouse. Local food in El Paso has been mostly a bust.

Sweet baby southern Jesus. This place was extremely overwhelming to me. The food was good, but nothing amazing– I’ve had better barbecue in many other states that aren’t known for such. The servers were super nice, and helpful. If you like meat, and a TON of it, then this is your place. I’ll probably find something else to eat if I’m ever back in El Paso.

Very over rated. If you are new to El Paso you will hear a lot about this place. It is not even in top 20 barbecue places in El Paso and you will be very disappointed in the food especially for the prices you pay. Our entire table tried all the meats and the best was the sausage, which is average at best. The ribs were tough, flavorless and dry. The sides(beans, cole slaw and potato salad) were not good either. I was hoping for a decent margarita at least and that was watered down and not good at all. Unfortunately the service was just as bland and average, at best, as the food. Pretty much every other barbecue place in El Paso is better(Smitty’s, Smokey’s, Famous Daves, etc) and costs so much less. If you want a really nice steak or BBQ dinner, make the drive to Cattleman’s.

My last visit to this restaurant was thirty years ago – the State Line was a favorite back then for all you can eat ribs. The menu is printed to resemble a 1950’s Big Chief writing tablet used in elementary school. I didn’t see all you can eat ribs as a menu item but they did have family platters of all you can eat barbecue and sides that were combos of pick three or more meats. It was explained that you could order just one meat choosing ribs. I don’t think I could break my record set in college for the number of ribs I could eat in a single meal so I chose the brisket platter this evening. You get to choose the lean or moist brisket, the fattier moist brisket is described on the menu as 2nd cut. I chose what I believed would be the tastier of the two – the 2nd cut brisket. I was happy with my choice but I did slip into BBQ judge mode grading the brisket serving on taste, appearance, and tenderness. The State Line brisket, sliced correctly against the grain had a narrow smoke ring, most, thick slices, and included narrower cut tender pieces. The plate included three sides: cole slaw-very creamy without being soupy, Pinto beans, and potato salad that had a pleasant tang. A plastic cup of extra BBQ sauce was nestled in the center of the plate although the brisket was dressed with more than enough sauce, perhaps too much. The décor of the restaurant was full of Western memorabilia including Western art, mounted deer antlers and Texas Longhorns, livestock trophies, framed enlarged antique postcards, and vintage advertising. There were two Antique ice boxes in the dining room that were used to store butter and margarine for replenishing the red basket at each table for the spreads to use on homemade bread that you could order with your meal. The spread choices in my basket were European style whipped butter blend, whipped honey spread, and the tiniest cube of real butter labeled dairy Wisconsin. Freshly brewed sweet and unsweetened Iced tea and sodas were served in 32 ounce plastic cups. My single lemon slice looked tiny in the huge cup. I’d come here again for barbecue, next time asking for the meat undressed, BBQ sauce on the side, and extra lemons for my tea.

We arrived with a group of 18 people and had to wait for about 30min which is fair for a Saturday evening. The waitress was very friendly and service in general was fast and great. The food arrived at the same time for everyone and it was very good! I had the two meats plate with ribs and brisket and the meat was tender, juicy and their BBQ sauce tasted very good, too. I’m also a fan of their interior decoration. A true Texan BBQ place with lots of charm and pictures, decorations and it just makes you feel like you’re in the old west.
