This was the first time I came here but I don’t think I’ll go back for a dinner again. Miso soup was way too salty like they don’t know the very simple basic of cooking miso soup that you cannot boil miso soup because it’ll become salty. I ordered Chirashi and tempura but the fishes were not so fresh and tempura batter was way too crunchy. I was really surprised that they charge us $ 100 for the quality of the food. That’s the biggest reason why I will not come back here. If I pay that much for sushi, I know a much much better place to go.

2 stars only because the food was fresh, no complaints on the food but the service was terrible. Used to come here a couple years back and it was amazing unfortunately not the case this time. Service was absolute garbage.

Your basic menu of sushi. No frills or thrills. The sashimi tasted fresh. The service was good and the layout was organized. If you need a quick bite to eat I do recommend this place.

The food is great. Everything tastes freshly prepared. Fish is also very fresh. The drinks were kept full and the entire order was brought to the table in a timely manner. Pretty great place if you ask me.

This was the most expensive lackluster sushi I’ve ever had. Let’s begin with my order of the Plum Wine, they asked that I try it first as many customers don’t finish it because of its sweetness. Although I appreciate the thought, if I order a glass of Plum Wine and pay for it, why should it matter if I don’t finish it? We ordered several rolls, we were a party of 7, and a couple orders of noodles. The Crunchy Rolls were large, all other rolls(salmon, avocado, and California) were average size. The noodles took forever to come out. Actually, one order of noodles came out after everyone had finished their meals(thankfully my cousin had ordered a roll to keep the hunger at bay). My order was the Tempura Shrimp Udon… I only got one tempura shrimp for a large bowl of Udon. You would have thought I’d get more than one tempura shrimp for a large bowl that my face could fit in, but no, just one. Lastly, this is a B.Y.O.S type of joint. Bring Your Own Siracha. We ordered a side of Siracha and were handed a small side that lasted one dip. We kept ordering several sides until we finally ordered a bowl of Siracha and that was miniature as well. I should note that I’m Mexican and myself along with my group enjoy spicy meals. That being said, if you keep having to bring out small sides why not just bring the bottle? That would have saved the server several trips.

Great fresh ingredients. Fast service. The hamachi sashimi was as good as we’ve had anywhere(maybe including Nobu,). Rolls we had: — Red dragon, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Rainbow. Great sushi, great prices.

Food was okay nothing special. Maybe it is because I have developed so picky a taste for sushi. So others are welcome to try this place. But for me, the price is a bit higher for the quality. Service is acceptable too.

I have been going to Sumo Sushi for 11 years and I have NEVER been disappointed with the service, quality of the food, price or cleanliness of the restaurant. The sushi is exquisitely fresh and delicious! It is the ONLY place I will go to eat sushi!

Warning: Im only reviewing sushi and service. Okay… I decided to wait til I went several times until I decided to write a review on this place. If u want authentic sushi on the east side, this is as close as u can get. There are 2 other places but I’ll give this place props because they get UNI and TORO weekly. If you’re unsure, u can call and they’ll let u know. The rolls are pretty creative and taste great. And the fish is as fresh as you can get it in the desert. I really do recommend this place for the sushi. As for the service, it really is 50⁄50. If the owners are serving, service is warm and accomadating. Cups are never left half full and they’re always there to check on you. If the actual staff are there, then good luck. Empty cups, orders are forgotten, possible overcharges. But if ur pretty patient… at least the sushi’s good.

If you want authentic nigiri sushi or sashimi in El Paso, this is the only place. I have been to all the sushi restaurants in EP(Kona, Shogun, Koze, Tokyo House, etc.), but they were all below average and in some cases almost inedible. However, Sumo sushi is the only place where I left satisfied. Their hamachi sashimi was outstanding and their array of sushis were not too shabby at all. The only low point was the inclusion of the fake krab meat into our sushi combo. Otherwise, the overall experience was excellent. Tip. Always be sure to ask which fish is the freshest before ordering any sashimi.

Me and the wife stopped for lunch today. we had a crunchy roll and a Louisiana roll. We also shared a teriyaki chicken. The service is always good and there is hardly any people. The food comes in a timely manner. We enjoy this place a lot. I recommend it. Very clean.

I am a regular and for good reason. Love the sushi, the hot ginger tea, the lunch box options. Its never full to capacity and service is reasonable. I would recommend you try it.

My wife and I stopped in to grab some sushi to go earlier this evening. We ordered the Volcano Roll, the Rainbow Roll, and the Crunchy Roll. It is a friday, so I wasn’t surprised when it took a little while for our food to be ready. When we got the rolls, only one was packaged like you normally to-go sushi. Our other two rolls were just sat in a typical to-go box. That wasn’t very impressive, but oh well, it all goes in the same place. The Rainbow Roll was good. Not really my cup of tea, but my wife loved it. It also came with Squid Salad, which was delicious. The Crunchy Roll didn’t live up to the hype, however. I have a lot of positive things about it from Unilocal and from friends, but for me it was kind of bland. It didn’t come with Ginger & Wasabi either. It was mearly mediocre. The Volcano Roll was amazing though. By far the best of the three. I will definitely return to try it again! Overall, I am pleased with our Sushi To-go experience. Looking forward to trying more of their rolls on their menu.

This is by far my go-to place! I always end up coming back here even after I feel adventurous and want to try a new restaurant and regret not sticking with sumo. Its not a fancy place like all the other raved about sushi places nor does it have wild unique sushi varieties but the quality, flavor and surrounding is very traditional and sincere. The food speak for itself, which is how it should be. I’ve been a frequent customer for years, the staff is amazing and everything is so clean. The sushi always taste fresh, it amazes me that I have never been disappointed with every visit. Ive gone to the fancier and raved about places. You are simply paying alot for the atmosphere. This place is just the best!

Service was fast but the food was alright. Had the edamame to start and it was over-salted to the point i could not eat the rest of it. My friend had the crunchy roll(really good) and two other rolls that were alright(see picture) I had the teriyaki salmon, and the vegetables were probably the best part. The salmon was unevenly grilled and had a rubbery skin … ewww. Probably will not be returning. There are other great sushi places in EP and this is not one of them.

One word: disappointed. We walked out without food. When we sat down shortly after 7pm, there were six groups seated. We got our drinks immediately. Then, we sat. And sat. The two waitresses puttered around taking care of the other guests. One of them cast a glance at me twice and quickly looked away. No one came to get our order! After 15 minutes, my husband walked over to the waitress and handed her our order. She looked bewildered. She came to our table and I also asked for an appetizer. About a minute later, she approached our table again and said they were out of steamed rice so our order was going to take 20 – 25 minutes. How does a Japanese restaurant run out of rice? So we paid for our drinks and took off. Why they couldn’t mention they were out of rice when we got there is beyond me. We won’t go back for a long time.

I checked the reviews but went there anyhow. Well… Not going back. The rice for my sushi was a bit hard it didn’t taste fresh overall. The service was below standard with the waitress being slow and unfriendly. The miso soup came lukewarm and had 2 tiny squares of tofu and my water tasted like tap water. Even with a lemon slice(that they dropped into the cup), you can’t taste it. It’s a bad experience overall and I won’t go back there again.

I decided to check out Sumo Sushi after reading a couple of the positive reviews. Bad idea. I gave this place two tries before my final judgement just in case the first bad visit was a fluke. T’was not a fluke. If you’re in the mood for good sushi or even mediocre sushi go elsewhere. Food was flavorless and visually extremely unappetizing. Rolls are smashed and awkward, rice is a bad consistency, ingredients were poor in general, plating is tacky, and the ambiance is… ugh… so divey. Almost forgot about the ridiculous wait. One of our rolls didn’t come to the table until my party was already getting up to leave. I can’t… I don’t… I won’t… I understand El Paso isn’t sushi central by any means, but… C’mon, guys. C’mon. Even with lowered expectations it was just… not okay.

Some of the best sushi I’ve had! And it’s in El Paso of all places. Every time I visit my cousin we make sure to grab some sushi here. The restaurant itself is outdated and uninviting but the food more than makes up for it. Yay! I’m a fan.
