This is a very small, intimate studio. I’d say it can comfortably fit 6 which may have its drawbacks, but all that really means to me, is receiving the individual attention that every student so deserves. The reason I’m giving Back For Yoga five stars is because all of the instructors were incredibly delighted to have my nine year old daughter practicing there with me. Especially Andy! He is such a wonderful instructor. We moved to Orange County for a brief time and that mean’t leaving BFY. I could tell that Andy made a lasting impression on my daughter, as she often spoke of him and recalled mantras that he had introduced to us in class.
If you are looking for a yoga studio that will welcome a child with open arms, I recommend you give Back For Yoga a try. Their class packages are affordable, and every instructor has something unique to offer.

I discovered Back For Yoga back in January through a Living Social deal. I got the deal for a few reasons: 1) I wanted to resume regular yoga practice, 2) it was near my office, and 3) it was a small studio. I was quickly attending class 4 days a week, right after work! I unfortunately had to move to Northern California, so I don’t get to go to this little studio anymore!
I love that the classes here are small… on average, there were about 4 students per class. I have seen the studio fit up to 7 or 8 students, but it gets a little cozy, especially for those in the back. But, this is rare, and everyone is friendly and accommodating. I like to to arrive a little early (10 – 15 minutes) to avoid getting stuck in the back, and to be able to set up and settle down without any rush. On the other hand, I have also had the pleasure of being in classes where there is just one other student besides myself. Almost like a private class!
Due to my schedule, I only attended Hatha with Andy, and Forrest with Theresa.
Hatha: Andy caters the class depending on the student’s level, and I always felt great afterwards. The pace of the class is a good combination of flow and holding poses. The meditation was new to me, but he provides a print out of the words to new students. I found that it was a great way to force myself to clear my mind after a busy day at work and began to look forward to it.
Forrest: I’ve always gravitated towards hatha/​power/​vinyasa/​flow yoga, but the stretching and ab work really did wonders and opened a whole new world of yoga for me! So much so, I’ve bought my own yoga strap to help stretch my hamstrings and other leg muscles at home. Theresa makes an effort to cater the class towards what the students need that day. There were days we did more back stretches, and days we did great shoulder work, and days where we did a little bit of everything.
To top everything off, their prices are great. I bought the 20 class pack for $ 150 since sometimes work gets in the way and I probably wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the unlimited. But even then, I have yet to find another studio with such competitive pricing. The class packs don’t expire either (which is great since life sometimes gets in the way!), so I hope I’ll be able to drop in for a class some time when I’m in town!
The studio is located in Downtown El Segundo, in the little strip mall area across the street from the Chevron gas station (not the refinery). Parking (at least in the evenings) was never an issue.

I’ve been coming here for about 8 years — finally time to write a review! This is a very small, neighborhood place, run on a shoestring. Six people is a crowd! I would never go to a big yoga mill. Here you get personal attention. The classes are all a little different — hatha yoga, gentle long stretches, etc., but they’re all good and have something to offer. I especially love Betty’s 6 am Wed. and Fri. class — sometimes I’m the only one showing up and get a private class! Andy’s starts out with a few minutes of chanting, and after a few times you memorize it, and it’s a nice calming, centering exercise. And Theresa has a Forrest background and is very slow moving and precise — alignment and posture very important. I shell out $ 1,000 every January which entitles me to unlimited classes — it makes me try to go every day to get my money’s worth! If you’re older, like me, flexibility and balance become increasingly important, and these instructors deliver. PS They have a very inexpensive sampler pack so you can try all the classes.

Tired of gym yoga and wanted the real thing. Decided to try Hatha Yoga with Andy. Amazing! Got a little weirded out by the meditation/​chanting in the beginning, but really got into holding the poses. Loved that we could use the studio’s yoga strap and blankets. Loved the use of essential oil at the end. Never felt so relaxed and stretched out. Wanna come back for more when in town.

I have been going to Sonia’s class for the past one and half year. She is the best yoga instructor that I have had.
a. She is very dedicated and kind instructor
b. She always comes to the class very well prepared
c. Every week she has a different routine which is very nice for your body.
d. She is meticulous about teaching the correct poses. This is a very important part of yoga if you want to get most out of your training.
e. She is open to discuss different questions about yoga after the classes if you want to.
In summary I have had an amazing experience going to Sonia’s class. I highly recommend her classes.

This is a great place for all levels of yoga. The instructors are awesome, the studio is small and intimate. I have taken Andy’s Monday night class which is good for first time students. He ends the class with a bit of aromatherapy which is the perfect way to end the class and to start the week. My all-​time favorite are Sonia’s classes. She explains the purpose as well as the correct form for each pose. I have learned so much in her class. She is an amazing instructor!

I’ve been coming to this studio for a few years now and I love it! The teachers are wonderful and the space is very quaint and tranquil. I love the vinyasa flow class taught by Maureen. It is challenging and a great workout, and she takes her time to make you feel comfortable and help you with any accommodations. I also love the Restorative class taught by Sonia. It is amazingly relaxing! Almost feels like a massage! The prices here are quite a deal, too!

I have never been a fan of yoga. It always seemed like a slow form of torture designed to highlight all of my biomechanical shortcomings.
And then I discovered Janet’s ‘Gentle Yoga’ at Back for Yoga on Mondays and Thursdays.
When I first saw the words ‘Gentle Yoga’, I imagined myself falling asleep from boredom. I could not have been more wrong. Janet begins the class by asking everyone what they would like to focus on that day. Sometimes we work on loosening tight hamstrings, sometimes we open up our chest/​shoulders. She always manages to tailor the class so it’s personalized.
Janet also offers modified poses to make it easier or harder. I usually have to stick with ‘easier’ because it’s challenging enough for me. She also shows you ways to make poses more effective by using props like blocks, straps, or a blanket.
I never thought I’d say these words but I actually look forward to yoga each week.
Like Katie T. mentioned, the studio is tiny and very intimate. I’ve also had ‘private’ classes when I was lucky enough to be the only student.
I’ve also been told by friends that the prices are really reasonable for a yoga studio.

I’ve been going to this yoga studio for years, and I love it! The studio is tiny, which is great because the classes are intimate. I’ve been the only student in the class many times. Back for Yoga offers various kinds of yoga. The vinyassa flow class with Maureen is my favorite. She’ll get you long an lean. I’ve also tried the traditional hatha, yin yoga, and restorative yoga. There really is a yoga class to meet everyone’s needs here.
All the instructors are wonderful. They really take their time to make sure everyone is doing it right and has the accommodations they need. My back was in bad shape after a car accident, and Maureen my instructor always modified posses for me. I really credit her for getting my back strong.
What’s even better is they offer a teacher sampler pack where you can try all the instructors for $ 5! They also offer 10 classes for $ 100 or 20 classes for $ 150. For the quality of instruction the price cannot be beat. I love this place!
