I have been here twice now and both times the service was fast and the food was soo tasty! You get large portions for the price you pay, so make sure to come hungry. They have plenty of good vegetarian, and even vegan options. Both times they have had a large pot of ready made self-serve chai. It reminds me of the chai that I had when I was in India, and the best part is it’s all you can drink. The owners are very friendly, all around this is a great family owned business.

2 stars for delicious food but the sketchy environment of this place on any given evening(after sunset) is wretched enough to steer me away for good. My sister and I came here on a Unilocal discovery because it was a couple miles from home and we love supporting our local businesses but we were sadly disappointed. Saying this place has a bunch of «loose ends» is an understatement. Their paper menu looks like a highschool rough draft(scribbles, scratches, re-writes). There’s a transient person yelling(obscenities) outside the door and the owners do nothing about it to make us feel comfortable. I ordered the tandoori prawns and chicken curry to share with my sister. The menu said i would get 8 prawns but i only got 6 so when i mentioned it to them they said i should have said something when i first got my plate. Apparently they haven’t updated(aka whited out and rewritten) their menu completely from the previous owners to show that you only get 6 prawns instead of 8 because now the prawns are bigger…(actual conversation) smh.(Why am i arguing?) Dim lighting(in the least romantic flickering kind of way), food served on paper plates, paper menus are a hot mess to say the least, and the outside tables were occupied by the homeless… Like i said before, good food for sure(maybe good for takeout) if you dont mind the atmosphere but definitely not a place i’d return to for a nice meal out.

Well had a good meal. First time there. Paid by new credit card. Find the card was hacked shortly there after with fraudulent charges. The card may have been compromised at this place. Beware. Has anyone else had this happen?

Got takeout. EXTREMELYGREASY! Especially the Chaka masala. It Ruined my favorite pair of sweats & leaked thru plastic bag all over car seat. Inside seems like they opened up prematurely. Amateur signage coupled absolutely no atmosphere explain why there were no people eating in there. Will never order from them again. Probably the most unhealthy vegan meal I’ve ever had aside from maybe eating 3 vegan donuts in one sitting. Hate to sound so harsh but also hate wasting my money on unprofessional and lack luster culinary experiences. Pretty cheap though so I guess you get what you may for.

Had to dock down a star for my last trip out to Vegan n Chicken. Previously I ordered through Eat24. Having had success I ordered again from that system. Once I received my email notification that it would be a 10−30minute expected wait, I walked out the door and drove down. It is a bit of a drive for me, about 20minutes or so. I arrived about 10 minutes early to pick up my order but to my dismay the restaurant was closed. I was quite upset as it looked like it had been closed for over an hour and was pitch black. I attempted to contact Eat24 but have still heard no response and it has been over two weeks. Not sure if I will be back as this place it out of the way and I am still peeved about the place being closed for no reason(no sign was posted). Nor was I contacted the next day by either party apologizing for them missing me and being unexpectedly closed. Either way, the food was decent. I had the usual paneer tikka masala with garlic naan, and a mango lassi. All of which had an okay flavor. Not enough for me to overlook the lack of concern from either party.

Pretty good spot in a strip mall near a gas station. Stopped by on our road trip starving and weary. Food come out very hot and tasty. Everything ordered is a la carte. We got the palak chopay and the veggie curry. Both were food. Roti was large and yummy. Samasos were good. What could make this place better? Food is served in take away plastic even when dining in? Maybe because it was late and they didn’t want to clean dishes or maybe it’s always this way. Not a fan of hot food in plastic. Also loose the microwave. Shouldn’t be cooking with microwaves in 2015. No one wants that. Not even to reheat stuff.

I found this places a few days prior just by making a wrong turn and I told myself I would come back to this restaurant once time allowed me to do so. It’s in a hidden place that I’m happy I came across. First, this was my 1st time trying this type of food and I would have to say that I’m happy that I did. It’s ok to step outside your box and gain a new experience. I ordered the Aloo Ghobi which consisted of Cauliflower & potatoes with extra nice spices and a side of plain Vegan rice. If your on the fence about coming to this restaurant, don’t be, go ahead and give it try. The only thing that would happened is that you gained an experience. The owner is very nice, knowledgable and friendly, if you have any questions just ask and he’ll surely have the answer. I hope this helps someone. Until then, Cheers!

sorry it was totally 5 star the first time I ordered and I was so craving to go back. unfortunately, this past week when I ordered– my chicken masala was wayyyy too sweet and not spicy at all, and my eggplant potatoe dish was just bland no taste. boo. I am so sad.

I really enjoyed this quant little establishment. We are here for dinner last night and the food was extremely tasty. The spices were spot on. The service was enjoyable also, as the employees are also vegan and willing to go the extra mile for a fellow vegan. The thing I liked most about his place though is the fact that the vegan food wasn’t like a normal vegan restaurant that serves the same tired soy protein nuggets in different sauces. This was whole foods cooked in delicious spices while still maintaining a healthful eating experience. 5 – 5 would recommend.

My first experience at Vegan N’ Chicken has exceeded expectations. This small ma and pa shop owned by local family, serves up flavorful and authentic Indian and Pakistani fare. I got the 1) Halal Chicken Tikka Masala which was mild and rich in flavor 2) Aloo Palak seasoned to perfection with fresh ginger 3) Veggie Biryani with lemon aromatics and spices and 4) Mango Lassi which was sweet, savory and creamy. I highly recommend this neighborhood gem and am so happy to have found a local spot for my Indian and Pakistani flavor fix! Additional Star for serving Halal!

Was HUNGRY… Did a Eat24 order for pickup right when they open @ 5pm. Both Service & Food were uneven this night: Da Scene: Walked in @ 5 after 5pm, there was one person hanging out and I could see my Lamb Biryani was still being fired, so I sat down… finally got the goodies @ 5:40pm. It’s a small shop and normally worth the wait, so no biggie. Da Grub: Lamb Biryani was on point, Saad Daal hardly had any lentil in it, Palak Ghobi was tasty, but the Karahi Chicken was a bummer — I think they must’ve forgotten the salt, that’s what I get for straying from the Karahi Lamb which has always been great! The Tikka Masala Chicken was good — very consistent, but I had it the next day… more on that next. Da Service: As I mentioned, I did have a wait, even though I pre-ordered… 40 minutes is quite a wait. Biggest bummer was the kiddo’s favorite missed the ride home, yep, the Tikka Masala was missing when we unpacked everything. I had to go back and pick it up, they made amends by comp’ing an order of Raita. The girls couldn’t wait though and tore up what we had at home while I was gone, so I had it to myself for lunch. Nice folks and I hope they do well. Food is normally great, and hopefully this was a one-off event. Can’t mis-pack to go orders… nothing more frustrating than trying to save some time grabbing to go for dinner and losing it instead.

I live literally down the street from this restaurant, and I’m so glad that this restaurant is here. The staff has revamped the restaurants interior, it is small but I like it. We normally order to go, but the the owner of the restaurant always goes out of his way to make my family and I comfortable while we wait. The owners are extremely friendly, and will make you dishes that aren’t found on the menu. I’m sure if they have the ingredients to make what you want, then they will make it. The food is always hot, the flavors are on point. Beware though, medium Spicy is pretty damn spicy but it’s deliciously spicy. Overall, this is one of favorite Indian restaurant, I will return as its convenient, friendly, and delicious.

My husband and I are big fans of Indian food and we are always looking for the next favorite spot. One day while looking on Unilocal for a place to eat we came upon this place. When I saw the name of the place I wasn’t all that excited. I’ve tried vegan food before and I am not a fan. But since this menu offered chicken we figured we would try it. My husband and I always order the same thing. I get tandoori and he gets tikka masala. The day we went was very very hot and the place is TINY! It took a while to take the order from the couple that was there before us and we just stood there waiting to order. The door was open but the heat from the kitchen consumed the room and it was very uncomfortable. That said, there are only four tables in the seating area and there was one two seater outside. We decided the best seat for us was the outside. The location is kind of weird. It’s in a large Parking lot and next to a liquor store so there was all kinds of sketchy people in the parking lot. The food. The tandoori was good. It was well seasoned and the burnt edges were not overdone. The flavor was traditional. The tikka was ok. It wasn’t bad but the size was small and it’s safe to say that tandoor up the street is still our favorite neighborhood Indian place. I would probably return. I would get the same– tandoori, tikka, nan, and rice, but only to go. I didn’t care for the samosas too much and the space was not comfortable. Give it a try. It’s good. It’s convenient. They do that dine24 thing. Take it to go.

Decided to try this place out after looking on Unilocal!Definitely made the right decision. BF likes to try vegan/gluten-free places and loves Indian food, which make this spot a perfect combination! We ordered garlic roti, fish pakora, aloo baingan, and chicken tikka masala. Got the main dishes mild. The first to come out was he fish pakora and it was savory and delicious. The main dishes came out a little later and I must say it was very flavorful. My BF says it’s probably the best tikka masala he’s tried! And that’s saying a lot considering he’s a tikka masala«snob». The aloo baingan was even more flavorful! I definitely enjoyed the fresh ingredients of the dishes. The owner and family are great! The owner makes you feel welcome and is great at explaining the freshness of what he makes. Will definitely stop by again and try his special plus the daal! And probably everything else! It would be considered a «hole in the wall» spot but this is a definite must go to spot in El Sobrante! Hoping for this place to get a lot more business!

Everything appears to be a la carte(not sure if that requirement was just for dinner or if it’s the same for lunch). There is no green salad offered anymore, despite what the menu says. The chicken kabob was dry and came with raw peppers and onions. Shouldn’t they be grilled? The kabobs needed some sauce to balance the dryness. The chicken tikka masala was perfectly spicy and creamy but honestly, I like the flavor of Trader Joes better! The rice was fluffy and had some nice flavor to it, not too overpowering. I would be more inclined to go back again if they had an all inclusive dish like with rice, naan, salad and the main dish. The two meat dishes and two sides of rice was $ 21. They give you free chai tea if you dine in, but good luck getting a seat. There are literally 3 small tables in the 12×12 dining area. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s in a seedy little strip mall next to a liquor store. There were a couple of homeless vagrants hanging around nearby, but they didn’t bother me. Just making in known it’s not in the best of places.

Decided to try this place out, seeing as though it’s just down the street. So awesome! I’ve always been one to look for the best tikka masala around. I’ve tried a lot of places in Berkeley and a few around El Sobrante/Pinole. This has got to be the best! For once the chicken cubes aren’t dry! And the flavor is off the charts. The garlic naan is also one of the best I’ve had! The make it fresh. :) To sum it all up: «they make it right» Will come back for sure! And they deliver!

Indian food is my absolute favorite, and that makes me very picky about it. I have been to several up there Indian restaurants in Berkeley and SF. The good food is extremely expensive, and the affordable stuff doesn’t taste good at all. However, this little place popped up five minutes from Sherwood Forest. I frequently stop in at the liquor store, and being good friends with the owner, he kept pushing me to try this place. I finally did! Their menu is quite affordable, and the options are extensive, but not so much that you can’t navigate all the choices. Not only that, but the owners were extremely nice and helpful, and the compimentary Chai is the bomb. Go ahead and give that stuff a try. We tried a bunch of good stuff. The Naan is killer smd exactly as would be expected. The owner recommended the sesame Naan, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much that did it for me. He also picked out some veggie curries I don’t know the name of. The spices are a good level, and give me that burn without the fire. Last but not least, what really did it for me was the 2.50 mango Lassi that tastes just as good as the Lassi I pay ten dollars for in the city. Mango lassis are how I judge the Indian food. This was par with the best one I have EVER had for a QUARTER of the price! I’ll keep going back just for the lassi! I am stoked about this restaraunt. I think we might finally have a keeper in this little hole that continously flips over. Give them a try, you won’t be disapointed.

He’s vegan, I’m gluten-free. Needless to say, we’re impossible to feed. Not only does Vegan N’ Chicken have something for both of us, but we can share food and have the flexibility to try something new whenever we want. Of course, while we could being adventurous, we usually get the Tofu Masala and the Aloo Matar, and start off with an order of Vegetable Pakora(I love being able to eat something crunchy and deep fried — it’s a rarity in the land of gluten-free dining!). The food is wonderful and consistent, and the staff is always happy to offer recommendations for the day. More on the staff, they are incredibly friendly. We actually met the owner when we frequented his previous business on Piedmont Avenue. We liked him and the food so much, we were eager to come out to El Sobrante to join him again. And we likely will again and again! El Sobrante is lucky to have him!

Delicious food, friendly owners, cute little spot. The food was really flavorful and fresh. They just opened, but I see a lot of potential for this restaurant. There are many vegan, veg, non-veg, and gluten free options. There’s something for everyone! They also do catering. We ordered tandoori chicken(boneless), roghni naan, onion kulcha, butter chicken, and mattar paneer. Everything had a unique taste to it. Most Indian restaurants, I can expect what the food will taste like, it’s usually a generic style of cooking, but the spices/style of cooking used here were different in the best way. So delicious. Highly recommend Vegan N’ Chicken! :)
