The short of it is that you can get cheap saimin here and though it might not be great it will fill you up. Let’s see the BBQ, chicken teriyaki, and vegetable base go for $ 3.50 and your extras will run $ 0.75-$ 0.99.

This restaurant used to have the ala carte option where you select what you want from the choices they have behind the glass. Over time, it got to be really grungy and gross. Recently, they fixed it up so I stopped in to try it out. It’s now a sit down service type of restaurant which is connected to the Japanese Sushi restaurant next door. They only have one entrance/exit, which is through the Japanese side. The waitress was really slow and our food and water took forever despite that fact that we were the only ones in there. The prices have gone up since their renovation. I wanted a mini chicken katsu but was told that I can only order a mini to go and not for dining in. I still ordered the mini chicken katsu and it came before my appetizer which was gyoza. The katsu is not the same recipe as before. I don’t want to eat here again.

If you’re looking for value and quality, then No. 1 Chinese Barbecue is definitely NOT for you. Yes, the prices are reasonable — under $ 9 for a large ala carte item — but the food is nothing worth writing home about. The orange chicken is hard to chew compared to its oh-so-tender counterpart at Panda Express, and the veggies in the other dishes are usually undercooked. The worst part about No. 1 Chinese Barbecue? It only accepts cash! In this day and age, a modern woman like me just uses a debit or credit card, and it’s a hassle to go to the ATM just to withdraw money for a place that’s not even worth it.

i generally try not to come here. but when i do, the lady never fails to yell at her son! it’s kind of sad. obviously, i don’t know what she’s saying, but he usually ends up walking outside to sit down because he is crying. the food is mediocre at best. avoid the ala cart, it sits for long periods of time. i am not sure how cleanly this place is either. two stars, because when you’re hungry and in a rush… this place will have to do!

McDonald’s makes better saimin. Granted, it had lots of vegetables(and you can choose between teri beef or bbq chicken as the meat add-on) but the broth was bland. The noodles were decent though.
