Nugent’s Tavern Irish Pub & Grill

We got off the plane and needed food. This was the first place that fit my style of eating.
Walked in and immediately loved this place. It was an early evening and the bartender was incredibly welcoming. He knew we were from out of town and made us feel like locals.
Great beer! Great food! I highly recommend the Guinness if you know a good pour, and the fried pickles with wasabi sauce are fantastic! Definitely a good stop if you want a fun pub vibe.

What a great American Pub! Marcy was awesome, the beer was cold and the burgers were great! Even met a few regulars who were very nice!

Talk about a hidden gem. I don’t really have a corner bar on my corner, so I travel a few miles to Nugent’s for my beer and burger fix. I’ll put their burgers up against anything on those «Best Of» lists. You can tell they use fresh beef and form the patties by hand. Sure, some of the flavor combos are a bit eclectic, but give them all a try. Especially my favorite, the Goober. Elvis himself would approve of that one. It’s just a stack of beefy deliciousness with the peanutty finish. Have mercy! And when my inner beer or whiskey snob disease flares up, Nugent’s got the remedy. They have a solid tapped beer lineup and a serious brown liquor selection… there’s a whole section of the bar devoted to whiskey. The staff is super friendly and quick with a joke. The regulars are a nice bunch. And, don’t let the neighborhood scare you… the local constables frequent the pub — so it’s always safe. 5 stars — I’m hooked.

Not much of a drinker an I don’t go to the bar much but since I’ve been their with friends maybe a handful of time. All times were great. bartenders are always nice an quick and the setting is always fun an cool. Ordered a bar pizza and it was pretty good ! I would recommend this place to friends

As an alternative to eating at the airport, I took to Unilocal for inspiration in finding a «local» joint where I can kill some time before my flight home. Although the area seems sketchy, I urge you to go here, if for nothing more, than the conversation and the history.
It was about 3pm on a rainy Tuesday when I wandered in. Usually, an empty place would be a warning sign to run in the other direction, but something inside me was convinced to trust my gut (and my fellow Unilocalers) into sticking around. And man, I’m so glad I did!
Pat is fkn hilarious, not to mention the epitome of what a bartender should be. He was quick-​witted, knowledgeable about current events, humble, informative, and just an all-​around nice guy. As I sat down, he told me the daily specials, and I settled on the skirt steak meal. My oh my, totally not what I expected… the steak was tender and juicy, and generously portioned!
I loved the fact that this is a «cop bar» with all the different badges adorning the bar area. With all the shit going on in the news, it’s so refreshing to see an establishment that celebrates the courage and bravery of our men and women in blue.
Because of the nostalgia, the proximity to EWR, AND most importantly Pat, I can’t wait to come back during my next stay in NJ!

Absolutely amazing, Burguer was perfection, fries uffff to die for, beer cold as hell, my new spot for good food. Who wouldve thought.. In Elizabeth Nj, long live the irish. Tooooo much alcohol, if they dont have what u want idk what u tell u, they have red srtipe beer for god sake. Def my regular spot from now on

Hilarious tender, cold beer, good food, made for a great lunch. When people enjoy what they do for a living it shows through in their work. Nugent’s staff enjoys what they do. Ask for the Philistine at the bar and strike up a conversation. It’s worth whatever the tab will be and the food was great. A gem

I was looking at the overpriced hotel restaurant
menu and decided to turn to Unilocal.The first place that popped up was this one with a near perfect score. Being an Irish bar, I figured I couldn’t go wrong. They did not disappoint. For the price of an 18 $ burger at the hotel, I got the prime rib that was the size of my plate. Everything was top notch, especially the bartenders! What great service and great food! Skip the hotel restaurants and check out Nugents!

Had a $ 15 group on for 2 cheeseburgers and 2 domestic beers. Burgers were HUGE, a little too big for my liking. Just burger bread n cheese. Was OK. Onion rungs n fries were good. Beer was nice n cold. Nice atmosphere. Would possibly return.

Can’t say enough about this diamond in the rough. Awesome bartenders, great selection of whiskeys, wonderful vibe, and not to mention the amazing eats at this establishment. My wife and I rarely go anywhere else. There’s no need.

Great food — home made. Burgers looked awesome and great topping selection. Pretzel had excellent home made spicy cheese sauce. 20 taps. Outstanding Irish whiskey and scotch selection. Great bartender — thanks Patrick. Right near Newark airport. If you have. A few mi Utes before your flight and you want a multicultural friendly bar in NJ with great food and drinks and easy drive to EWR — this is THE place.

I stopped at Nugent’s for lunch and a drink on a saturday.
I had the kielbasa and sauerkraut special. It came with mashed potatoes and a garlic sauce. It was delicious.
Service was great. I never got the bartenders name but he was very friendly and funny.
There are a variety of beers and a ton of different types whiskeys.
They have many big screen tv’s
I will be back.

The best dive bar I’ve been to in Union County! Food is excellent, I expected to find typical bar food items but the specials on a Saturday afternoon blew my mind (seared tuna, lobster Mac and cheese, seafood risotto to name a few). They also had a good selection of craft beers on tap. I will definitely be back for dinner again and again. The place was clean and welcoming and the staff was very friendly.

First time being at Nugent’s, was a great experience. The bartender was a hoot and great guy to joke around with. The selection of beer and alcohol is great and the food is fantastic. Was kind of surprised that the food was good being as it is a full fledged bar but am I more then glad that it was good. The ambiance is really welcoming.

What can i say read all the great reviews and this place does not disappoint. New digital jukebox, happy hour 4−8pm M-​F pool table darts etc. Oh and did i mention 19 Beers on tap and over 100 different Whiskies.. .
The burgers are amazing as is the rest of the menu.
And i like the friendliness as soon as u walk in the door it really is like Cheers… Nice mix of people and always felt safe, maybe because alot of off duty cops hang here lol… The barmaids are super nice and funny.
This will be my spot everytime im in town for business and stuck at the crappy airport hotels.

You gotta come here.

Had the fish tacos… To say we were surprised at having quality fish tacos and sweet potato waffle fries at a corner bar in New Jersey is an understatement.
The chef is a hoot.

OK! Now I will say this once and once only — If you are in the Elizabeth NJ area and in the mood for a BURGER not a burger — but a BURGER yes with CAPS — Then this is your place.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas… Burgers are sooooooooooo good — Any you have various options of Burgers that you can have… Not only that — you have all kinds of beers available — I don’t drink beers — but I am just saying — LOL!
The best thing that I forgot to mention — it is AFFORDABLE — you can have a great big juicy burger for under $ 10 and it comes with fries or a side salad — I mean what more do we want in life — LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL!
Let me not forget the Nugents sauce — Oh yeah baby — get the nugent sauce with your burger…

First time here was 3 months ago in mid-​December. I have probably been back 4 times a month since then. Guess I am qualified to write a review now.
What brings me back are the sweet potato waffle fries during Happy Hour. $ 6. The Happy Hour also includes $ 2 domestics and $ 4 imports/​cocktails.
Domestic does not mean from America… it means Budlight, Coors Light, Miller Light, etc.

Recently we switched it up and got the Nachos and Chili and that too was amazing… and I don’t even like cheese.
Sometimes though, the waffle fry amount is very low, while other times they give you an ample amount.
That is aggravating.
The bartenders are cool, sociable. They crack jokes, etc.
In the back is a pool table and room for beer pong.
Crowd is very mixed… older, younger, biker, hip hop, Hoboken yuppies, etc… every stereotype is in here, not just one!
The music they play ALWAYS makes you want to sing by the way… so be careful.

As advertised, good burgers. The beer selection is very good. If you need a place for a cheeseburger and a beer, then this is the place. I gave 4 stars because of the bun; it was tough. For a great burger you need soft bread.
The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is near perfect for this type of joint. They cook the burgers to order, always a plus.
One last note; as I entered there were 3 gentlemen arguing over football VERY loudly. I loved it! You could not have dialed up a more appropriate setting for Jersey. Awesome!
