I agree with Carol G. This is the best place for breakfast in the area! Not on the menu but try the Chile Verde Omelet. The hash browns are awesome.

Food is decent, but place is filthy!!! Waitresses need to be more attentive to the customers

I took my boys to Bert’s today for lunch and was really disappointed in the cleanliness, the service and the food. We have been here before and maybe go a once or twice a year but don’t remember things this bad. To start with, our waitress didn’t even come by to take a drink order for 10 minutes. During this time she took the orders for two different groups who came in after us. The place was not busy and I noticed our food sitting up under the heat lamp which it remained for a good 5 – 6 minutes as our waitress was doing pretty much nothing. Once we finally got our food (which was not very good) I started noticing how dirty everything was around me like the floors, walls and even the ceilings which along with the bad taste from my patty melt and fries was making me loose my appetite. I love going to these old fashion drive in diners but my goodness, keep the place up. I know they do fairly good business being that there is not much to offer in Wilton. Put a little money back into your restaurant and clean it up!

The food is OK depending upon what you order. The main complaint that I have is that the restaurant is really dirty. I honestly don’t know how they passed inspections. Flies are frequently in the restaurant. One day, I saw a busser wipe a spot on the floor then use the same rag to wipe the counters. That was disgusting. The owner of this place obviously doesn’t read Unilocal reviews or maybe he just doesn’t care.
The waitresses are all pretty great. They are friendly and do their best to get you seated and served quickly.

Meh. It will do. The service was ok, but not exceptional. I agree with the other reviews in terms of cleanliness. The place could use a thorough cleaning. Does the jukebox at the tables work? Ours didn’t. Servings are generous, but the flavor isn’t. Do you like attentive service and your coffee refilled in a timely manner? You might be disappointed. We might go again, but we are not in a hurry. I also appreciate a server who lets you know if you need to pay at the front counter, unlike our experience in which we had to sit and wait and figure it out… with an empty coffee cup.

Its filthy inside. Needs to have entire inside power washed for grease, dust and spiders. Everything was sticky and dirty– Walls, tables, windows, blinds, seats, floors… Food was decent.

Went back to give this dive one more chance… I should have listen to the voice in my head saying «STAY AWAY» … Filthy, dirty, poor tasting food, bad service… etc… The floors, tables, servers uniforms and building all need to be replaced. The owners obviously do not read this column. If they did they would do something. When my wife and I started going here some ears back it was pretty good. But over the last few years it seems like the owners and staff could care less about the place…
Do yourself a favor and don’t go here… ever. It is not worth the frustration of seeing what was once a great place turn into a nightmare of a dive… Maybe new owners would help the place. Or a staff who did care a little. I don’t see how they pass a heath inspection.

— While seated at the bar, we noticed a particular busser pick up food and trash off the floor 4 times, grab silverware and napkins, drop off dirty dishes and cups and use the same filthy rag to clean table after table, booth after booth and place mugs upside down on those same countertops — while NEVER WASHING HIS HANDS IN BETWEEN. This place is just laden with bacteria.
— I ordered the grilled cheese on white bread. Took 25 minutes or so for it to come out. The server said sorry as the cook made it on whole wheat instead, stating that if I wanted it redone, it would take a while. Wait, what? Why would it? It was literally two pieces of standard sandwich bread and ONE stinking slice of cheddar cheese that I could’ve duplicated in 2 minutes. I was SO irritated. OK, let’s say they were busy. Still, my re-​order should’ve gone to the front of the line. But I decided whatever and kept my plate.
— Waitress never checked up on us nor refilled our empty water cups. Though to her somewhat credit, she did give us a coupon to como my sandwich — probably because she saw the unhappy look on my face while I picked at my plate.

I ordered the Torta and was severely disappointed. First the beans were very clearly microwaved as they were crusty and dry around the edges, as if it were frozen dinner. The rice would have been bland for white, yet it was in fact spanish. Also the Torta itself had meat chunks rather than carne asada. The beef was unseasoned as was the sandwich altogether. The bread was soggy and mushy. Overall the food was cooked very poorly, tasted very bland and was of low quality. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I hope they serve better diner food than mexican, because they absolutely have no business serving any type of mexican food. Del-​taco and Taco Bell are leagues ahead in flavor. And a restaurant should always have better food than a fast food joint.
Customer service on the other hand was wonderful, though this could never make up for out right bad food.

My wife and I live nearby and have been coming for years and the food was great! WHAT happened???
We went 2 weeks ago and service and food was not up to par, we took it as a fluke.
Today we brought our daughter and food was terrible. Eggs were raw, chicken fried steak tasted rotten, pancakes were mushy.
The list goes on.
Our server was in her 50’s and very nice.
Something has gone extremely wrong with management or cooks.
I will go back when I see positive reviews

This place has shamefully slid downhill over the years. What used to be a great burger & Americana type food joint is now mediocre at best. About a month ago, we had dinner (both of us had deluxe burgers) and they were horrible. The death nail in the coffin though was the shear amount of flies both in the inside and outside dining areas. The owner must be either asleep at the wheel or his managers must have better things to do I’m figuring. I can deal with a bad burger now and then but when multiple customers are complaining and leaving dye to the flies, you might wanna get that taken care of before the County Health Department looks into it.

Waitresses are great, but food is bad at Bert’s diner. I got the mushroom and cheese omelette with country potatoes. The bottom of the dish was soaked with this yellow greasy fluid. After using about 15 napkins to soak it up, it just seemed to continue to drip down from the eggs and potatoes. My guess is that they use a lot of oil to cook the food. It’s a cute 50s style diner that has a lot of potential but I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Bert’s has gone down hill! The place is dirty and the service was slow! Its really to bad! Unfortunately, I don’t think we will be back. The food was, just okay.

Best ribs in town! I have learned over the years that I will be disappointed by other restaurant’s ribs after having ribs at Bert’s! They are delicious fall-​off-​the-​bone and consistently perfect. We also ordered the Chef’s Favorite sandwich which is a version of Philly Cheesesteak and it was also delicious. Service was excellent! Burgers are a hit and Mexican food surprisingly good too. Prices are reasonable. Fun diner atmosphere.

This review is based on 2 visits. The first time I made my husband leave because the place was filthy. Like don’t touch the table or utensils filthy! He thought I was being over the top.
So he talks me into a 2^nd try and we made it through brunch. Because I did not point out that that the place was, again, FILTHY! I kept it to myself, until the decaf coffee pot returned to refill and he noticed the nastiness that was attached. Then he looked down at the floor and almost lost it. Then he looked around at grossness that seemed to cover every surface and we left. NEVER AGAIN.
It’s too bad too since the food and service were good!

Eveyone is right. Lot’s of good food for the money. Eggs and linguisa excellent choice!

The rule here seems to be quantity is better than quality.
I love diners and diner food. There is nothing better to me than a greasy spoon place. That doesn’t mean that it has to be bad. There was one place near where I lived that was fantastic but a total dive. So it is possible.
I ordered a scramble of some sort. It came with the usual sides of bacon, and I upgraded to a biscuit with some gravy. It was all good, but nothing stellar. There was also WAY too much food on that plate. Like there was enough calories for that to be it for the day, possible even day and a half. I saw people shoveling in platefuls of food into their mouths and just thought that this was only their breakfast (not that I can judge too harshly).
By far though mine was the best at the table. My mom, who we were visiting, got one of their Mexican dishes for breakfast. It lacked any of the traditional flavors of a good Mexican breakfast. My fiancé got the steak and eggs. The steak was grey, tasted off, and was basically inedible.
The service was bright and friendly. You could tell this was a very local place with tons of regulars. I’m glad places like that still exist. I just wish the food was better and a little less on your plate. That is what would keep me coming back here.

Just a mom n pop diner the service was excellent the food was average but the price is good for the portions we (the wife and i) got country fried steak with side of hashbrowns and eggs wwith biscuits and corn beef hash with a side of biscuits n gravy and sum total was only 21 $ its a deal!
