Big Oak Nursery

If you were a Capitol Nursery customer and you have figured out Green Acres is just a nicer version of Home Depot, you need to come here. Their employees know plants & the prices on annual veggies are much better as well.

Had a fun trip out with my nieces. It’s a little bit of a drive maybe 20 minutes or so but well worth the trip. We were looking for terrarium plants. What I really wanted wasn’t available yet but I received some great suggestions for fun alternatives. My terrariums are beautiful and I can’t wait to make several more. The prices were amazing and I’ll back when spring is in full season. I’ve already recommended Big Oak to several friends.

Absolutely the best nursery in the area. I have shopped at a lot of nurseries in the area and Big Oak wins hands down. I purchased a 15 gallon birch tree from Fair Oaks Blvd Nursery and paid twice what I paid for the same tree from Big Oaks. The tree that I purchased from Big Oak was healthier and staked much more securely than the tree from Fair Oaks. I will not go anywhere else from now on even though it is a 30 minute drive it is well worth the trip. You won’t be disappointed. Their staff is extremely friendly and knowledgable.

I went there on Saturday with my family looking for some shady plants for my from lawn. I saw this place that is closest to where I live and have good reviews on Unilocal so I thought why not take a look. When I got there I was quite impressed with the size and amount of plants they offered. I saw a worker there went over straight away and asked for help but she told me to ask the lady inside the office I was a bit taken back and thought ok whatever but I was anxious to get some plants because it was getting hot. I saw a lady in the office and asked her if she could help me picking out some plants for a shaded area. She looked like she did not want to help and before saying yes to me she glanced behind me to see if there was anyone else inside the nursery that she can pass me onto but saw no one then reluctantly said yes and helped me. I explained to her I want some fragrant plants for a shaded area in my lawn but she kept on pointing out plants that’s not fragrant. I have to kept on asking her if they are fragrant plants then finally she showed me some plants that were very has a lovely scent to it but its was so expensive $ 25 each. I decided to take down the name and check it out at my local Lowe’s. I made a wise decision because it was way cheaper at Lowe’s. Plus I was not very happy with my service there so why spent my hard earned money there!!!

Beautiful, healthy plants at a reasonable price! Huge variety! Staff is friendly, helpful an exceptionally knownledgable! I will only by my outdoor plants here from now on!

Today was the second time I went to this nursery. Just like the first time I didn’t even know of any employees were there. An employee finally walked by me and politely said hello as she kept walking. Their plants look nice, just wouldn’t go there if you have questions or need help.

I called out to Big Oak Nursery looking for Hall’s honeysuckle this weekend with much trepidation due to my past encounters with an older gal with black hair who worked there. Not knowing her name I was hoping she either moved on or wasn’t working this weekend. I love to support my local nursery but after several negative encounters with this lady I started going to Home Depot or just driving out to Green Acres. A long story short I had a great experience!!! When I called a gentleman named Oscar gave me great customer service and promptly returned my call after locating the honeysuckle. I arrived and I was greeted by a Happy Smiling man named Oscar. He showed me the location of the plants and the wife and I ended up buy some extra plants to spruce up our front yard. Love this Nursery and have been a loyal customer for years, but didn’t know how to react to the above mentioned lady. I want Big Oak Nursery to be around for years to come so hopefully this lady has moved on, because I am probably not the only customer she has turned away with her poor customer service.

Went here for the Saturday parking lot sale. Sadly I didn’t want any of the plants on sale, but I did find an Okagami Japanese Maple tree. They didn’t have many and the one I found was sad looking. Lady marked it down for me and I got such a good deal! The people who worked there were knowledgeable and answered all my questions.
I went to Home Depot later that day and there is a definite difference in selection. More variety and fuller grown plants at this nursery. Will be back for some more plants later.

Don’t go here if you want to be fawned over and waited on hand and foot by somebody who doesn’t know swiss chard from spinach transplants. This is a working nursery and they don’t have a ton of employees to stand around waiting for you to show up.
What they do have, is Lyle, who is an absolute gem. So knowledgeable and fun and friendly, and Oscar, who wouldn’t let me lift a finger to load my purchases. Definitely NOT a bunch of lazy snobs here, unlike Capital Nurseries, just real people who know their stuff.
You can count on Big Oak to have the standards, in variety, at obscenely reasonable prices, and offered early in each season. They also carry many unusual perennials and heirloom veggies you won’t find anywhere close by ! Every plant I’ve purchased from Big Oak is happy and thriving !!
If the idea of taking a little drive, setting aside some time to wander this lovely nursery and discover hidden gems on your own sounds like a plan, check this place out, you won’t be disappointed if you have the right mindset !

Happy with the selection for early season. They are growing and I like supporting local!!!

The staff were very friendly and helpful, lots of parking, and a great overall layout of the property. The prices were very good. But boy do I miss Capital Nursery.
Big Oak doesn’t have the same veggie selection as Capital had and I didn’t see a lot from local growers. Most of the veggies we got were the same as I could have found at the big orange box, I didn’t see any heirloom varieties.
That said I will go back to Big Oak because I like supporting local, small businesses. Keep up the good work!

What a wonderful place the young lady that help us greeted us right away with a great smile on her face and was very helpful. I couldn’t believe the many selections and great pricing this place had we came out with 2 plants to bring home back to Danville.

This seemed like a pretty cool nursery with lots of selection but they failed in the fact that I was there for a half hour, walked the entire property twice and did not see one other living soul.

Great Place! This is exactly what we were looking for. They have a great selection of plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, and great prices. No garden supplies or anything like that, but, a good place to go if you are landscaping and need bulk plants.
