Extra Space Storage

We looked at several storage facilities and Extra Space was the cheapest. They had a huge sign stating that they were offering a free month, but when we inquired about it, we were told it was only on selected units and that they didn’t have any units available that qualified for the free month offer. We went ahead anyway and decided to rent a unit. We had just signed the rental agreement and moved our items into our unit when we got a notice in the mail that they were raising our rent-​significantly. The people at the counter that we spoke to had told us that they hardly ever have increases, and, now, after only a couple of months of renting, they are raising our rent. I feel deceived. They are now no longer the cheapest. Also I now believe that the free month promotion is just a scam to get you in there. Do not trust this business unless you want to deal with a shady company that uses false advertising and lies to customers to get business.

The facility itself is very clean and well-​managed. The staff are great and very helpful. However, the corporate advertising of «First Month Free» is suspect. They clearly advertise on a banner «First Month Free» Ask the Managers for Details and when you ask they tell you, your particular unit does not qualify for this promotion. So, this is why I’m giving them only three stars. I wonder if any unit qualifies for this promotion?
