Was having poke next door(good, but not great poke place btw), and decided to stop by because I’ve always wanted to. I never wanted to go outta my way because the Unilocal reviews were so low. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The lady wasn’t incredibly nice, like some Filipino grandma, but she certainly wasn’t rude at all. As a half breed, she even asked me if I had ever had pandesal before as I attempted to purchase it. I may be whitewashed, lady. but I’m not THAT whitewashed. I also ordered 10 Spanish rolls(known as señorita bread at other places) for $ 4, and those things… are magnificent. Buttery, sweet heaven. Just like these things my grandmama used to make(this part is actually true). Worth the price of admission alone. Will report back on lumpia/halo halo quality’

Gotta love the halo halo. Sometimes when im in a rush, the pre-made foods are just like the way they are made at home. I also love all the different ube breads and pastries. YUM!

I might have passed this bakery for two years now. Never had time to try and then we moved. I came to elk grove to visit my mom and they bought home señorita rolls and coconut bun. Both are so good. Not too sweet, prefect amount of cream and freshly baked. Cant wait to try other goodies they have.

Super delicious seniorita rolls. My friend brought me in and ordered some for her niece and ever since I have been in love. My first time trying these rolls, but to me these ones are pretty great. I haven’t tried from anywhere else. Reasonably priced. Staff is friendly and personable. I really appreciate that. Thank you for providing yummy treats to Elk Grove and thanks for being appreciative of business. Will def be back when I am in town.

Customer services isn’t the best. A lady came out from the back and just stared at me while she waited at the cash register. There was no Hello, Good Morning, How Are You. My tuna bun had a piece of paper in it. The egg pie was just ok. The top layer was over cooked as it had a rubbery and thick texture I did not care for at all and ruined every bite. They used to have a mocha mamon but I never see it anymore. This place really is just meh for me and I’m not sure if I will be coming back. I really wish Goldilocks would come back to south Sac.

I absolutely love this place! It was my first time here today. I walked in the store. I looked around to all the yummy pastries. I took about 10 minutes to decide what I wanted but the lady at the register was really patient. We strike a conservation. I couldn’t decide on what I wanted to try, so I played it safe by ordering 10 Spanish rolls. They sold the Spanish rolls in increments of 5. The lady said the rolls are not too sugary and taste amazing. She said that she can eat 5 or more a day. It took the baker around 7 minutes to get it. I paid $ 4.25 for 10 rolls. Overall the Spanish rolls were hot and fresh. I took a bit of the sugary, sweet and fluffy bread. I ate three in a row. I would come here to try the other pastries!

I like this Filipino bakery. Being Filipino, I’m always looking for a place that sells adobo, pancit and custard pie(lumpia would be nice, but 3 out of 4 is not bad). I try to come as often as I can. Their food is delicious. If you like Filipino pastries, breads and foods, this is a good place to come. Highly recommend.

Came in by myself on a Sunday morning around 8:15am. Even though they were open early I can tell they were still baking, at least I know it was fresh. Food: I had a cheese bread and chicken empanadas and both were fresh, so fresh they came out of the oven/pan. The cheese bread tasted great, it is like a mix of just regular cheese bread with cream cheese filling in the middle, and sugar on top like an ensaymada. The chicken empanadas were excellent. The outside was not as greasy and oily as some other empanadas. Good texture, did not crumble and does not seem to sog. The filling was also very meaty, not as much as sauce which is good for me. One of the more filling empanadas I had. Location: Small bakery but cozy. They do have indoor seating for eating, but only 4 seats. Parking is also plentiful but it is in a plaza shared with other businesses. Overall: Would come back and wanted to try their other baked goods. They also have catering which I wanted to try as well. Would recommend to try it out.

We just moved to Elk Grove last week and I was intrigued by their Spanish rolls which looked like my beloved señorita bread from Starbread, but I set my standard low because I didn’t want to expect it to taste just like it and be disappointed when it didn’t. However, I was pleasantly surprised because it tasted pretty close to it. The only difference is that these Spanish rolls had more of a buttery taste. It’s different, but not bad. I also tried the chicken empanadas, the cream cheese roll, and the plain ensaymada. Loved the ensaymada but could live without the cream cheese roll. I don’t prefer to sink my teeth into a block of cream cheese kthnx. People say they hate the customer service, but this isn’t a sit-down restaurant. As long as he puts the right food in the bag and charges the correct price, we’re good!

I really want to LOVE this place since it’s so close to my house & they make seniorita bread, but truth be told I’d drive the extra distance over to Starbread bakery & get it there. The texture here is a little chewy & dense, not soft & fluffy like Starbread. Plus, the guy working there seemed annoyed when I asked them to put my dozen rolls in a box rather than a flimsily paper bag prone to grease soakage.

I guess I wouldn’t have mind giving this place 5 stars but after my two visits, I’ve realized that the lady up front has really bad customer service ! She’s not friendly, she doesn’t smile, she doesn’t ask you if you have any questions, and she’s not very welcoming at all. I get it, some people may think that employees aren’t there to make friends or start a conversation but at LEAST present yourself in a way that will make customers want to come back. The first time I checked this place out was a few years ago. My cousin and I were in the shopping center and wanted to see what they offered. The moment we walked in, the lady comes out from the back and just mean mugs us ! No «hi! hello! How are you doing? How may I help you?» None of that ! We immediately noticed how rude she was and just left. Now, I just recently noticed the halo halo sign outside and told my boyfriend about it. We were in the neighborhood today and he suggests we stop by and grab some halo halo. Upon walking in, I noticed the same lady from a few years ago was working. Again, still no hi or welcome. I spoke Tagalog to her and even started small talk to maybe soften her up a bit but, no luck. Customer service rating would be 1 star. We ordered the ube cookies, red velvet cookies. 3 of each flavor ensymada, hopia, and a halo halo. Let me just say that if these items weren’t good, they wouldn’t be getting 3 stars but since it was actually better than Valerios imo, they get 2 additional stars! Let’s describe each item. Ube cookies — they had that distinct ube/taro taste(plus in my book) not just that mushy yam taste, it actually tasted good, very soft and chewy which i loved ! I would definitely be coming back for more. Red velvet — soft, chewy, no overwhelming cocoa taste. It was huge ! You could share with a few people! Ensymada– soft, creamy, not too sweet, and very delicious ! I’ve had ensymada where it’d just tasted like bread and sugar but ginelles ensymada was actually different ! Hopia– haven’t tried it. I bought them for my mom and she said they were good though. Halo halo — savory still has the best. Ginelles halo halo consisted of way too much crushed ice, not enough ice cream, too much beans, one small piece of Leche flan, stale pieces of sprinkled rice crispies(not even pinipig? I think that’s what it’s called?) and mocha mix.

Since I never had Filipino bake goods before I thought to give it a try while waiting for my pizza from pizza hut down the lane. When I went inside the guy at the register was talking to two other people in the store. He looked at me and didn’t greet or say anything like he was upset i went to his store to buy something and continued talking. I had some questions but the guy looked very busy as he continued talking loudly. Standing in for 5 mins I cut in between their conversation and told the guy I am ready to order. He gave me a mean look n said nothing. So I pointed some stuff in the glass case and while he was taking it out(continued to talk) I looked up, I saw a sign for cassava cake. Never tried that before so I asked the guy if they have any cassava cake since I didn’t see any. He gave me another mean look and replied in a rude voice, «its right here». As he pointed, he moved then I saw it was sitting behind him on the counter. All these time he was blocking so I couldn’t see and also it was sitting where I couldn’t see n reach. After purchasing some rolls, cream cheese rolls and cassava cake, the guy was still acting rude n didn’t even say thanks. How rude :( Never going back. I am sure the guy is happy that I won’t be going back since he didn’t like me spending my money in his store. Giving 2 stars for the cassava cake coz it was hot and very delicious.

Ginelle’s bakery on Bruceville is a independently owned Filipino bakery. This bakery is nested between two larger retailers in a little strip mall next to the Home Buffet. I needed a box with a variety of pastries and had never tried authentic Filipino baked goods before. The owner took his time to explain the various fillings and what items were most popular. He was also kind enough to offer samples of anything I needed to try. I loved the sweet coconut Ensaymada Macapuno rolls. The roll reminds me of a hot cross bun made with kings Hawaiian bread as it’s not too sweet. And the filling was made with fresh coconut… One of my weaknesses in my boring little life. The owner/baker sliced the larger buns into 4ths for me and carefully arranged them in a tissue paper lined box. As I was getting ready to pay he walked into the back of the bakery and came out with a warm Spanish bread that had just been taken out of the oven. He gave it to me as a sample and told me that most people call this«señorita bread.» My taste buds were immediately snapped into a state of subliminal bliss. Giselle’s Spanish rolls are amazing!!! They’re coated with melty salty sweet butter and warm and fluffy inside… I will definitely come back for more :-) . Added bonus: Then entire box of baked goods cost less than $ 10.00 out the door.

Well, this visit was by accident. I was looking for the indian store to purchase my curry powder and they moved… its a filipino bakery now. spanish rolls aka senioritas are sold here. The owner gave me a sample. its good, not sweet like Starbread on Mack Road. i bought a red velvet was ok, I mean soft and moist but not sweet enough for my taste buds… I’m coming back to try more desserts.

On my quest for Spanish Rolls, I found Ginelle’s Bakery on Unilocal and discovered they carried them. We called ahead to have some set aside some so we can bring to a family party. We were coming from out of town(30 min away) and they were nice enough to set 4 dozen aside for us. They were really warm but not the typical spanish rolls that we expected with the breadcrumbs dusted on top. They didn’t have any breadcrumbs but instead had butter on the top of them which made them more greasy and they sort of stuck together making them look unappealing. The cashier mentioned they make theirs a little different which is not a bad thing but when you’re expecting something a bit different, it’s a bit of a let down. Flavor wise, they were tasty and they were nearly all gone by the time the party winded down which is a good sign – but if you’ve ever brought fresh spanish rolls to a party, they’re usually gone before you even set them down on the table. For the spanish rolls alone, i’d give them 3 stars — and probably won’t be my go-to bakery if in the area and need them again.

I came here out of curiosity because I have never been inside a Filipino bakery before. To my surprise, there was a sign near the cash register showing they have Halo-Halo here! For those who do not know, halo-halo is a Filipino mix dessert with shaved ice, evaporated milk with various boiled sweet beans, jello and fruits, and served in a glass(usually with a scoop of ube ice cream on top!!!). When Gimmie Yogurt, the place that offered this dessert closed down, I was indeed sad…(Currently replaced by Quickly’s). Thank goodness this bakery isn’t much further down the street. Of the bakery items here, I have had the Spanish rolls, a tuna roll, and a chicken roll. The tuna and chicken savory rolls were not very impressive. It’s quite plain but doesn’t taste horrible either. I just wish it had more flavor packed inside. The sweet Spanish rolls are good though. If you want to use a box provided by them to order in bulk, there is a small fee. Owner here is always nice to me. There’s still so many rolls and flavored bread that I need to try!!! Very slowly but surely, I will try one of each item. :)

I’ve been wanting to try this place since it opened, and I finally did today. LOVEIT! I had the pancit, sweet banana roll, lumpia, enseymada ube(purple yam), and the pork adobo roll. All of them were excellent and I didn’t feel sick afterwards like a lot of foods nowadays can make you feel. I brought some of the lumpia home for my mom as well and she liked it too. Definitely will be going back!
