Back in 2006⁄2007 I also consigned several expensive shabby chic style furniture pieces only to be told a couple months later that the pieces sold, but the store was suffering financially and couldn’t pay me. They never offered to make payments to me and eventually stopped answering my calls. Pathetic, can’t imagine how they are still in business now screwing over members of the community like that! Shame on them!

Re: Michela Z: Rough economy or not, treating your customers well is the golden rule in business. When you owe someone money, you pay them their money — that’s typically how life works. I don’t doubt Christopher’s experience was accurate, nor do I doubt your experience was accurate. Unfortunately, bad business gets people’s attention. One of the biggest lessons in business is that when a customer has a good experience, they’ll tell a few people they know now and then. But when a customer has a bad experience — they’ll tell at LEAST10 people, and statistics show those 10 people are not just friends and family, but total strangers. This is why treating your customers poorly will kill a business, good economy or not. What the owners of this business should have done was contact Christopher, apologize for intentionally avoiding his phone calls, apologize for not paying him what contractually he was due(by LAW), and then giving up an extra 10% to him as compensation for his inconvenience — and to make up for the poor handling of this matter. The fact that the owner did none of the above is evidence as to why this business is doing so badly. Can’t blame the economy for bad manners.
