I used to eat at the old EG Blvd location until it changed ownership, so I was glad that this new location opened. The food is as good as the old location and there are only a few minor differences. I’m especially glad that the curly fries(twister fries) are still on point!

We went on a Saturday at noon and they were closed. No note on the door and no lights to suggest maybe there was just one worker and they had to use the bathroom(the store had clearly not been opened for the day). My family and I stood there and stared at the sign in the window that clearly showed the hours of operation and double checked our phones to make sure it was really Saturday at noon. Yep. It was. I was so disappointed. Especially since we had been looking forward to it.

My husband was int he mood for a philly cheese steak sandwhich so I found this place and it was OK. The price was very reasonable and conviently located however it didnt hit a home run for flavor or being authentic. It can be best discribed as your in a hurry and hungry and this will do for now but will leave you wanting a Cheese steak still. I must admit they had mqany more options to choose from then I have seen at other plces so when I do go back I am gonna try a different combination of the sandwhich and hopfully it will change my rating and thoughts of this place. Oh and the staff was very friendly, helpfull.

I was here with my family visiting my nephew and his family. We Invited them to have take out dinner. I bought a 7 inch cheese steak hoagie with onion and sweet peppers and side of fried onion rings. Very good. What’s awesome about this place is that they have a check in Unilocal offer that day which I got for a 20% discount with all my orders.

They finally open The Cheese Steak Shop in Elk Grove. The sandwiches are better than the other place off of Elk Grove Blvd. This place, the sandwich is delicious, but its a little greasy. When you eat the sandwich, all you see is grease dipping down your hands. The sandwich itself is a little thin and they don’t put too much meat on it either. You can have the sandwich with sweet peppers and onions. With the toppings, it make the sandwich better. If you come here often, you can get a stamp card. After so many sandwiches, you can get a free one. Plus they have double stamp day too.

I am mixed about this review… hovered between 3 and 4 stars for about 2 minutes before settling for the 4 star review. The bad: Not really authentic cheese steak. Did not taste authentic and pretty sure the ingredients were not authentic The good: Super friendly service and decent prices. You order at the counter and the guy brought out the food to us and even extra utensils and plates for our infant/toddlers. The food was hot and fresh. I tried to get the lunch special which includes«any» 7″ cheesesteak with fries(either curly or garlic) and a drink and stack the Unilocal Deal(20% off) on top of that. Yea, that was a no go. I decided that the lunch special was a better deal for me so I gave up the Unilocal Deal. I probably would go back… it did satisfy a craving and the food was hot/fresh and friendly.

Customer service was outstanding BUT the sandwich was tiny, skimpy meat, and they use canned bell peppers not grilled. Pickled peppers on a sandwich? Gross! I ordered a large fries and for the price they were very small. I was hoping to split them up with the kids and there wasn’t enough to go around for everyone. Maybe it was because I was using a Groupon? Hmmmm… Wont return to this place again.

I have driven by this place many times and today I finally decided to give them a try. It was just after noon and the place was fairly empty. There was a two top in the corner and myself. The man at the counter welcomed me as I came in and was friendly. I ordered the chilli pepper sandwich with hot and sweet peppers along with onions. The food came out very quickly and was hot. It did however lack taste. The peppers must have been soaked in sugar for a year. I know I wanted sweet peppers but wow. The bun was average. It was soft but it did not hold up well when soggy. The meat was cooked well but lacked seasoning. The cheese was… Well there was no cheese. I was amazed to see a philly cheese sandwich had no cheese. Maybe it is a healthy version. Not sure if I will be back.

When it comes to a meal, I believe every single part of the meal should be applied to the grade when voting on a venue based on rating. That being said, I ordered a 10 inch hoagie style cheese steak with garlic fries. When it came to the sandwich, it would have been not bad at all if it weren’t for one thing… the peppers. What the heck? Did they dive these in sugar and vinegar for years? What happened to cooking fresh grilled peppers(to add that the hot peppers were not jalapenos?) for your cheesesteak? Then, came the fries(the heck? Shouldnt fries be out first/at the same time?)…which was overloaded on raw garlic, and was chalkier than any potato wedge i’ve eaten in my life. The total of the meal, around 12 bucks, was just not worth it. Overall, I do believe that they should change certain things, otherwise this is just another run of the mill joint that will not last very long. No return value until otherwise.

This is good, I’ve had the King of Philly here along with the garlic fries. This is probably the best cheese steak in Elk Grove for now. The garlic fries were pretty standard and not something I’ll get again but the cheese steaks are done properly. Definitely worth the 4 stars but I’m still searching for the best cheese steak in Sacramento. For some reason there have been a lot of cheese steak places popping up in the area. I just got an ad in the mail for another one. Go figure.

Love this chain. The food is pretty good. I’m sure it’s not the most authentic but still it’s tasty. Nice change from a burger chain. I’m a fan and will keep coming back again and again.

Im so glad a cheese steak opened up near work! They also have a lunch special and use the same frequency cards. Got the lunch special for $ 5.99+tax which includes 7 inch regular cheese steak, fries(steak or curly), and a drink. The sandwich was smaller than I remember and the meat was a little scarce but it was gooey goodness and I enjoyed it. The curly fries were very potato-ey meaning they had more potatoe than normal curly fries(ie arbys) so less crispy but I liked them still. They also gave me a coupon for the lunch special for 4.99 next time. They currently have a Unilocal deal $ 5 for $ 10 voucher also. I will be back occasionally.

If this is real«authentic» Philly cheese steak then the people of Philadelphia must be pretty bland and lack any sense of taste. My sandwich was actually pretty disgusting. The meat was some kind of overcooked flavorless beef(I am not sure it was even steak), the bun reminded me of something from the day old Rainbow Bread discount center and the vegetables were overly large chunks that tasted like they had been soaked in sugar to the point that they had no other flavor. Where was the cheese??? My garlic fries were undercooked and the chunks of garlic were way too large for my liking. I would have loved it if they would have been roasted but, being that they were raw, it was more than a little bit over powering. I would consider the Cheese Steak Shop to be to Philly Cheesesteak, what McDonalds is to hamburgers. I will not be going back even if the service was good.

This is one of those standard cheese steak franchises, but for Elk Grove — not bad. I’m a fan and will be revisiting this shop again. By the way, don’t get the large unless you’re REALLY hungry — it’s like 15 inches long. I made the mistake of just ordering a large philly cheesesteak without looking at the menu. =) Good stuff!
