I was there just after the new owner took over. She was too busy on her Facebook to speak to me about an accommodation I had requested. Never went back and would not bother.

A must for breakfast when I’m in town. Everything I’ve had has been delicious. Mom loves the eggs Benedict. I love the omelets. I love how the older generation gathers for coffee and chatter. That’s what a great café is for. It has the small town ambiance. Good food, friendly servers. :)

Everything was delicious. Café has 1800’s feel but cleaner than I anticipated. Menu has all day breakfast as well as lunch and dinner items. I’m from FL and I was surprised to see biscuits and gravy on the menu, you don’t see that everyday in minnesota.

My wife and I eat here all the time! The food is amazing and the prices are great! Staff and service is great! Best part of all is the fresh home cooked food, much better than any other restaurant in town.

We had breakfast here. We got to our seats quick even though the place was packed. Our server did come take our order right away but the delivery of our meal took longer than normal. The food was delicious. One complaint is that it was extraordinarily hot! The woman at the table beside us brought out a handheld fan even. Might have been an off day but climate control is a must. All in all, our meal was good and we will try it again.

Great service, awesome atmosphere and very good breakfasts. I had the chicken fried steak breakfast, my wife had the biscuits and gravy, and mom had the eggs benedict. All our breakfasts were really good and came out very quickly. We will be back.

This place needs stronger coffee and crispier hash browns to complement the good breakfast ambience.

Great home town food and atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Saturday morning breakfast was super busy but the staff was efficient and our wait was very minimal. The everything platter was fabulous(and I’m not a breakfast person).

Plain good food. Their sandwiches are excellent. Rachel, Ruben, Burger and Ham and Cheese are great. I go there for breakfest. Just like mom makes, fresh farmland mixed up on a plate garnished with bacon and toast.

Bitter sweet memories of this place. Loved bringing my mom here for wild rice soup and a turkey sandwich. Always happy –upbeat courteous staff. Never grouchy or rude. Made my day as I grew up in Elk River and the building used to house a different business long ago in my youth. Mom enjoyed living in the area up until her 88th birthday. Mom passed away may 2013. She was friends with the owners as she was a frequent diner. Now I will be bringing one of my grade school teachers there for lunch and reminiscing under the tin ceilings — enjoying rustic settings — and wild rice soup with turkey cranberry sandwiches. Please try this restaurant just off Main Street /Elk River Minnesota. Btw there is a great wholistic bakery on the lower level with scrumptious affordable whole grain breads.

Stopped with the wife and kids today for the first time. Place was fairly busy and we were seated quickly. Food was decent but not great. I had a burger and fries and could tell the fryer was do for a oil change. Found out they were closing the next day for two weeks for a remodel which is definitely needed. Good friendly service and will try again with hopefully better luck!

Been 2x now and service was slooooow both times. But, the staff is friendly and it was packed both times so they must be doing something right. Food is good, had breakfast both times and can’t complain!

We debated 2 or 3 stars. If you like fun, local, but a little more hot-dish than foodie… which fits the locale to a T… Go for it!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I was not thrilled with mine and my wife’s visit this morning. This is a local establishment that we have not visited for many years. I would love to support all of our local, family-owned businesses, but they don’t get a rubber stamp just for being in existence. It was a Monday, and the place was not so busy. We asked for some suggestions and our waitress pretty much said it was all good. Well, that didn’t help. The menu is pretty extensive(which isn’t necessarily a good thing) and we settled on a breakfast. I got the platter with poached eggs, bacon, onion, tomatoes, and cheese, all sitting on top of hash browns. Sourdough toast on the side. My wife got the hash with an English muffin and poached eggs. The country music was humming on the radio in the kitchen as we waited and watched the food being prepared. The décor is a mix and match of different tables, different chairs and even the plates were different from each other. The hardwood floors and brick walls are nice. Our food arrived pretty quickly and strike one for my wife’s poached eggs. The whites were still completely raw. Now, no one asked how the eggs should be cooked(wellness that is), so you would think they would be in the middle somewhere. She sent them back to get scrambled instead. Upon arrival back in the kitchen, we could plainly hear the cook complain about the eggs. «I cook them too hard, they want them soft, I cook them soft, they want them hard». OK, I guess it was our fault. Now I am irritated. My poached eggs looked fine on initial inspection, but it was too buried in cheese to do any extensive investigation. After digging in, I discovered my eggs too had raw egg whites. Not cool. The toast I got was charred to a crisp. Really? My wife’s English muffin was burnt as well. All visible to the naked eye. My wife got her scrambled eggs and was concerned that the cook was a little to miffed about the eggs that maybe these were tampered with in some hidden way. My food tasted fine for the most part, but the damage was done. The place was so quiet that we felt like we had to whisper to each other and that we were under the spotlight for the egg mishap. The cook came out and chatted with what I presume were the owners for a bit while we were eating. Another order came in and he proceeded to head back to the kitchen, wipe his nose with his hand and resume cooking. Gross! After we left, we wondered why the owners(if that’s who who they were), would let the cook complain about the customers, loudly enough for all to hear. They were certainly close enough to hear it themselves. Hmm… Anyway, we will not be back. Maybe that is why we drive into Minneapolis to get great food. All’s it would take for places like this to really make a hit is to be a little more conscientious of what the customer experience is really like.
