B On The River

Their grapefruit gelato is amazing. So creamy, tart and sweet. So refreshing on a hot day.

Nice café along the river. Pleasant venue. Order at the counter and wait a few minutes. Cobb salad and panini sandwiches were delicious, as well as the muffin and chocolate chip cookies. I was visiting, but my friends come here often with their baby. Plus, the adjourning gift shop is delightful. Lots of great trendy and nice items. Christmas items, too.

First off the good, five stars for beautiful outdoor seating on the river, and a generous serving of gelato for just $ 2. I enjoyed the grapefruit gelato, but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the enticing options.
On the other hand, three stars for what was a fairly mundane ham and Swiss Panini. The cheese and broccoli soup, and the tiki masala were good, but again, nothing to get excited about.

I had the Cuban sandwich and my wife had the pull pork. The sandwich were decent, but not great. The Cuban was a little dry. The main reason for 3 stars was the wait. We waited 15 minutes for 2 sandwiches. I would understand if they were busy, but there was no one in the shop when we showed up. It got busy about ten minutes later. So why did it take so long to make 2 easy sandwiches?
I will give them another chance if I’m in Elkhart for lunch with the family. It is a cute shop.

My biggest beef with this place is their hours — I’ve wanted to try it for *years* without getting to, because they’re closed or almost closed by the time I get off work.
But. The baked goods are delightful and the mochas are super-​duper fantastic!
There’s ample seating and all kinds of cute stuff to peruse. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

I walked in and there was no one around. Stood there and perused the merchandise while waiting for an employee to come out of… somewhere, anywhere. About 5 – 7 minutes later a female employee emerges from the men’s room and disappears in the back. Several more moments pass before she comes up front only to ignore me while she cleans. Another couple minutes go by and she finally asks me what I want, with a tinge of curtness. No greeting, or smile, or «Sorry for your wait». I tell her I’m not sure yet because at this point I’m not sure I want to waste my money here. While I’m looking at the menu some more the lady leaves and goes back in the back. At this point I’m almost continuing this venture merely as an experiment to see the outcome because they’ve basically left their store empty and unsupervised for 10+ minutes now. Someone could have just walked out with all kinds of merchandise. There was not a soul around manning the place. A couple minutes later another lady emerges from the back only to pick up the phone to place a call and rudely states «I’ll be right with you.» Sorry to have inconvenienced you with my presence. Needless to say I didn’t give them my business, nor will I ever return unless I’m in the mood to be treated like a ghost for a 15 minutes because I was starting to wonder if maybe I was just invisible. I’ll «B» going somewhere else.

I had the Italian chicken panini and it was delish! Employees/​owner very friendly. The patio is great. Free wifi a plus. Cute gift shop as well!

I don’t know why I keep coming here.
Today, as I eat some chocolate, drink some coffee, and try to write a little bit, one of the employees is wandering around the dining room having a loud and angry personal phone call. The coffee is not that great, and the quality of worker has slowly dropped to the quality of the management (see my first review).

I go here occasionally on my lunch, and it truly is a charming little place. Although, it feels like its catering more to women, frankly, with all these cute little shopping goodies…
Regardless, I do like the place… Nice atmosphere, and a great outdoor patio on the river, which is a plus. And it’s right downtown, which I love.
The food here is very good, not amazing. However, I always find myself wanting a sandwich combo, with a salad or soup. That would be very pricey on their menu as it currently is… And everything seems stubbornly A La Carte and quite expensive!
Service here can be a problem. It seems nearly every time I’m in, something small goes wrong. The last time I ordered two items to go and a drink. The gal got me my drink, and after a wait, brought me my order in a bag. I had walked all the way back to my office before I realized she’d only given me half my food.
As a previous poster said, ‘I really want to like this place’! And I do… But I’ve certainly also had my share of problems here, and typically, you can expect a wait to get your order in and finally get your food.

Delicious pastries and great coffee. The gift shop has a lot of lovely items and cards. We go on a regular basis for a snack of humous or a hot chocolate after skating. I will sneak in on my own when I have a few minutes to spare and indulge myself!

I really wanted to like this place. The shop is cute and at a great location. I got a chicken pesto panini and quiche. The pesto was jarred, and the quiche so waterlogged from the frozed veg it was almost inedible. The crust was so soggy they had used toothpicks to pin it to the quiche so it wouldn’t fall down. Both came with a pile of undressed baby spinach with grapes on top. Weird. For dessert I tried the double chocolate cake and gelato. The gelato was fine, not special, and the cake was so stale it was like cardboard. It had to have been many days old and the side that had been exposed had to be cut with a knife to get through it. I’m so disappointed!

Great little store for last minute gifts, and a great café! I recommend the gelato! :)
