My mouth waters just thinking about the food. This is just plain old awesome American food made the way you want in a relaxed atmosphere. The steaks are award winning and I love the Heinnie burger.

We went to the back barn first time for me. I have been in the bar and ordered takeout for forever it seems. So I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was very clean, I liked that we sat in a «stall». The appetizers were extra yummy we had potato wedges that were covered in cheese and bacon. And a sampler platter work jalapeño poppers mozzarella sticks and onion rings. They were all very tasty I had the pork tenderloin and Joe has me prime rib the Clydesdale prime rib which was huge and he said it was absolutely wonderful. My grandson had a hamburger my daughter had a hamburger and my son in law had a steak everybody was very pleased with their meal. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody it’s a great place to eat with great food and a good history as part of the community

Simply put, Heinnie’s has the best Prime Rib you’ll find anywhere in the nation. And, on Thursday nights, their 10 oz. Filet special rivals the best steakhouses in Chicago, New York, Seattle, Omaha, Dallas or elsewhere. Also not to be missed are the SIX soups available daily. My personal favorite is the vegetable beef soup, which is unlike anything I’ve tasted. If you’re looking for the full ‘pampered’ or ‘formal’ meal experience, you might find Heinnie’s more basic & traditional. And, desserts & the relaxing post-meal coffee are not their specialty. But, if you’re looking for some of the best food you’ll find anywhere, and if you’re a true steak lover, you owe it to yourself to visit Heinnie’s Back Barn.

My husband and I ate here while in town based on Unilocal reviews. We were not disappointed. He had the 6oz steak with loaded potato and I had the black n bleu burger with a fries and coleslaw. We were both pleased. The shrimp cocktail was good with just right amount of kick in the sauce. I liked how the individual booths were Sectioned off offering privacy. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Would recommend.

Came here for my brother in laws birthday on a Wednesday night. My husband and I decided to try that steak for 2 special — which comes with a 35 Oz sirloin steak and 4 sides of your choice. When our steak first came out, I was in awe because of how juicy it looked. We like our steak medium rare and it was cooked just how we wanted it. We took a bite out of the steak and it tasted just like it looked. And if you know good steak, there is no need for A1 sauce — this steak was a good example of that. Great service from our waitress and the whole restaurant staff was friendly overall. Most likely going to come here again in the near future.

Terrific resturant with great service and food. Our party had three kinds of fish and mine a filet mignon. Everyone loved each item. My filet one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Service fast, friendly and accomodating.

Sammi the server waited on us, what a shiny spectacular personality. We had the incredible prime rib and filet mignon sooooooooooooooooo fantastic! The baked potatoe was the best! And make sure you get the horse radish sauce. I could eat it without the meat! So yummy. I’m speechless.

We got here between lunch and dinner. Dinner isn’t served till 5:00 so we we were a little early for dinner. We decided to try the burgers. We were not disappointed. husband had The claybaugh but with only one pattie. Can’t imagine it with two. it was so big he couldn’t pick it up to eat it without wearing it. I had the chili burger and it was great. Homemade chili lots of meat melted cheese, it was awesome. Coleslaw was very good and fries were good size and looked hand cut. Want to try to come back for the steak.

Visiting town and found this place in Unilocal.Had the prime rib, salad and baked potato. The prime rib was excellent. The only thing I would change would be the salad. Instead of iceburg I would prefer romain.

Bar is old school and dining is very personal. Hands down the only place in elkhart to get a steak. This place is classic and family owned. So support a family and eat at this great place!

I understand there will be a wait on a Saturday night, but when I am told 45 min to an hour I don’t expect to wait an hour and a half. My wife steak was hot but mine was not. I had a ribeye that I ordered medium and got rare. I was already mad about the wait so I did not send it back. The food is definitely NOT worth the wait. I have been here before and seem to forget why I hate going here, long waits and false wait times. If the wait is going to be an hour and a half tell people that don’t lie. I made sure people coming in understood that the wait times being stated were false. After we were seated it took 15 minutes before anyone came to the table. Wait staff was overwhelmed and understaffed and the hostesses obviously need better training.

Hands down the best prime rib around. Get it char broiled with mushrooms! Have eaten here for years and never been disappointed. They also have good sandwiches and«bar food». Great place to eat anytime.

This place is great. The restaurant is very rustic and clean. The people are very friendly and personable. We are from out of town & were referred here by a local. When we arrived, we realized that we were here last year when passing through. Wife ordered haddock and I ordered the 16oz rib eye. Haddock was fried and enough for two people. Really good. Steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and was very flavorful. Also had sautéed mushrooms, small order. Small was a lot. We would go back.

Wanted a quiet st down dinner. This place has a western décor that is getting a little old looking. Very noisy. Waiters too busy to stay on top of service. Food a bit disappointing. Ordered the 1⁄3 pound buffalo burger. No lettuce tomato or any expected toppings. Served on a tiny plate that made it seem even smaller. Burger was definitely not 1⁄3 pound.

I’m an Elkhart native… Heinnies is a local tradition. Give ‘em a try… their food has been pretty good for YEARS. If you aren’t happy with it… tell them. They’ll make it right. They are carrying on a family tradition and will do what it takes to make sure you’re happy. That’s something to be proud of and as a customer… its something to come back for.

Forget Applebee’s, this place is amazing. Sit at cowhide covered tables inside stalls that used to be for milking, or in the bar area with a NASCAR theme, select from a wide variety of beers, with several on tap, or cocktails, order charred salmon or filet mignon or a Heinnieburger, I’m coming back!
