The owner did not speak to me in a kind matter. He definitely was arrogant and thought he knew everything, when he didn’t. He also didn’t treat his workers well and demanded them to be faster and quicker. Needless to say, I ended up having to make 3 trips to that store, only to be yelled at because it was my fault having a old lock that was difficult to unlock(but it still worked). Thoroughly disgusted.

Went here in a pinch just for a couple screws for a toilet flange. They had them for 25 cents each. When I went to pay, the arrogant old man insisted on charging me a dollar, as I was told that was the minimum I was allowed to spend! For 46 cents, it wasn’t worth arguing. I am a restoration professional, and was just introduced to this business. It will be the last time I go there, as even my client said they are awful. For the 46 cents they gained, they have lost untold amounts of income from me, and hopefully you that are reading this review. Go to Killian on Germantown Ave.

A –OK in a pinch. Small store that usually has what I need. Prices are high. The owner is a complete jerk off. His son is nice and helpful however; as is the rest of the staff. They did do a terrible job of repairing a window for me, and it wasn’t cheap. Although this place is 2 blocks from where I live, I will go out of my way(to Fern Rock Hardware) if I need something small and/or simple just to prevent dealing w/the nasty owner.

I would not recommend this place. Awful customer service. I purchased two washers for a faucet that was leaking. Since they did not have the correct flat washer size, they sold me two domed washers and screws for $ 3.00. I was not allowed to get the washers, an employee had to get them from the parts drawers. When the faucet continued to leak, I returned the washers. I was given a $ 1 and told that was the parts cost, the other $ 2 was for«service“because I brought the valve in to make sure I got the correct size. Others have mentioned that the owner and his son are both very arrogant.

Just as the previous Unilocaler mentioned, this place is pretty small and cramped. Chances are high that you drove past this place many times without even glancing at it, and even if you DO know where it is, It might be slightly difficult getting to the store’s lot if you are on the opposite side of the road. If you know what you need to get and you’re looking for a large selection of items to choose from, then this is not the store for you. If you are confused about certain things and would like some advice then this is definitely the place for you. The people that work at the store are very knowledgeable and the service is top notch. They will give u advice and point you to EXACTLY where it is in the store. Its like these guys have a blueprint of the entire store seared into the back of their heads. While these guys are great at giving you advice and pointing you in the right direction, they are pretty shitty at making keys. I needed keys made at different occasions, so I took to Melrose Hardware and they failed me at different times. When my sister needed keys copied, she also took it to Melrose Hardware because its close. Those keys also failed. Maybe they just aren’t that great with keys or certain keys. I still go for non key copying stuff.

You would think that a giant hardware store is preferable to a dinky one, at least because of the selection. In my experience this is only sometimes true. Melrose Hardware is an old fashioned hardware store — small, dark and cramped. I walked in there with a plumbing problem. Within 5 minutes they had straightened out a misconception I had, grabbed the exactly right parts I needed off the shelf and brought them to me, and sent me on my way with a smile. I’ve had enough experience at Home Depot and Lowe’s to really appreciate how unusual this sort of treatment is. This is probably not the place to go when shopping for power tools, large quantities of supplies or kitchen appliances, but for many jobs around the house, it is just right.
