I have been shopping at this Kroger for 40 years. I don’t enjoy shopping there and I am embarrassed to take my out of town visitors to this store. The area where the carts are kept is so bottled-up and filthy… trash and dirt all over the place. The trash can beside the sanitary wipes is always over-flowing with used wipes and circulars, not a good first impression. The produce is a lot to be desired, if you can find what you’re looking for. I cannot believe the condition of the public restroom(have used it a few times in an absolute emergency, so it’s not an isolated observance). It’s one of the worse public restrooms I have used. I have been to other Krogers in Morgantown, WV, Kentucky and even Washington State, and have not found these observations in the other stores. Even though I don’t like Wal-Mart, I prefer to do my grocery shopping there, at least it’s a lot cleaner.

If you live in Elkins, you almost have no choice but to shop at Kroger. It contributes more to Elkins(than the WalMart) because it is a union store within Elkins city limits. Beware the parking lot. My car is perpetually dinged by the bad, near-sighted and old people who shop here. Hint: Tuesday is Senior Discount Day. It is also the day your car is most likely to get bumped into by another car or by a cart. People also enjoy double parking on both sides of the fire lane outside. Always. You may wait 10 – 15 minutes at the customer service desk only to get close enough to see the clerk who is wearing an ID with the tagline, «Where the Customer Is First.» No, sorry. Kroger’s big motivator is profit margins. Some of the checkout aisles are so narrow that you really have to work to get your cart through. The aisles are crowded with extra displays that are easy(and/or fun) to knock over. And god forbid you should have to use the restroom at the Kroger. It is in the back, you share it with the employees, and you get a behind-the-scenes look at how management feels about their employees and customers. Sadly, Kroger has the best wine selection in town

I am a long time customer of Krogers and I try to shop exclusively at their locations. I actively participate in their Fuel Perks program, every $ 100 you spend you get $ 0.10/gallon off of fuel up to 35 gallons. I buy over $ 1000 a month of groceries and gift cards each month to obtain a $ 1/gal discount and then I use it to fill up my trucks’ humongous tank. After shopping at this location before heading into the WV Wilderness, I went to their pumps shortly after the store closed, after being told the pumps were open 24 hours. I started pumping fuel using my $ 1/gal discount and I got $ 0.10 worth of gas before the pump shut off and I couldn’t use my discount again! The people inside the store a few days later were less than helpful and unable to regain my hard earned discount. I feel that they should have at least given me a $ 35 gift card for in store use since that is what their pump cost me when I lost my discount.
