First of all, I would like to thank my fellow Yeep Kana B for reviewing Piggly Wiggly Discount Foods in Elkmont, Alabama. Had it not been for her I would never have known that this delightful store even existed. If ever you’re in the Huntsville area then you owe it to yourself to do the pilgrimage to Elkmont. The drive there brings you through some beautiful Alabama farmland and interesting architecture.
The Elkmont Piggly Wiggly Discount Foods sits out practically by itself in the Alabama countryside. There’s like one small business next door. When I arrived at Piggly Wiggly I got out of my rental car in my Doc Martens and Oregon T-​Shirt. The locals looked at me like an alien who had just stepped out of a spaceship. However, this was my third day in rural Alabama and by then I had become accustomed to these curious frowns.
Piggly Wiggly Discount Foods is a medium sized grocery store. The product line is very good. They offer quality produce, a meat counter, household goods etc. The prices are in line with any grocery store you’ll find in Huntsville. The staff is just as friendly, courteous, and helpful as can be. They’re nice to everyone regardless of what race you are or what state (planet) you come from.
This is Northern Alabama so the barbecue selection is excellent. Bought myself some wood chips to bring home. Kana B mentioned some T-​shirts for sale. Well, on my visit they had one T-​shirt from the local football team and lots of Piggly Wiggly shirts for sale. Nine dollars for a Piggly Wiggly shirt is a good deal indeed and guaranteed to bring laughs when you get home.
In this era of Walmart and large scale grocery stores it is a wonder indeed that stores like Elkmont Piggly Wiggly Discount foods exist at all. If you’re like me then you’d rather give your business to Piggly Wiggly. Take the beautiful drive to Elkmont and enjoy the rural charm of Piggly Wiggly Discount Foods.

Its the Pig! The people here are very helpful. You would think that being a smaller community grocery store that the prices might be higher. Not so for the items I checked, PLUS if you are nearby think of the time and gas you would save by shopping here! They even have a pharmacy and souvenir t-​shirts so you can bring something home to friends or for yourself as a memento of your visit to beautiful historic Elkmont, Alabama.
