Safeway Food & Drug

Came in once wanting strawberries, looked at every container in two whole sections to find either moldy or badly bruised strawberries. Yuck. Wasted at least 15 – 20 minutes doing this.
When checking out at the machine I had problems with the scale not registering correctly and needed assistance. No one came so I had to go looking for help. When I finally got some they talked to me like they were doing me the biggest favor like they saved my life or something.
Umm, that was your job and all you did was hit a few keys for me.

Let me start by saying that I have NEVER had to deal with this at safeway before today. While checking out it went above 100 $ so they asked me for my ID, never once have they done this before so as I usually do I run in with just my credit card, I told them I don’t have it, that they never have asked before. They said well go get it, you have to have it. I offered to even pull up the bill on my app, not good enough for them and the manager didn’t even bother to come over this was all done on their internal phone system. They can put back all of those groceries. Waste of my time. Will never be returning. Oh and I have my passport on my phone… Wasn’t good enough. Ridiculous.

They are hit and miss. Some of the cashiers are nice-​Mahassin, but several of them are really rude, especially if you use coupons. They’ll find any excuse to deny them. Why? And they seem to not be very good at removing expired food off the shelves. I started to buy a naked juice until I realized that it had expired the week before.
They usually have good cakes at the bakery, I get birthday cakes made there all the time, although they must have gotten someone new, because I just got a half sheet cake with no icing in the middle between the two layers.

Nice selection but lines are always horrible. Organic selection is really pretty awesome and I prefer it over the competition. They give decent coupons which help. Aisles are wide and they have an onsite Starbucks.

The flower arrangements here are gorgeously done, and the florists are friendly! The prices are also very competetive!

So the safeway I normally go for my birthday cakes, wasn’t taking orders because their cake decorator was on vacation. So I called this location and was in luck. This store’s bakery ROCKS! I needed a quick turn around (24 hours). They took my order over the phone and the next morning, my half sheet birthday cake was ready. Nicole had my cake ready when I walked up. It was PERFECT! She boxed and even helped us put it in the cart. I was looking for Texas toast to make hubby his birthday french toast. I couldn’t find any, so Nicole suggested I use Chalah. She even cut it for me right there at the counter! Yes, they provice that service. She was so helpful, even told us where we could find large candy canes. She made my morning rush –around process so much easier!
On another note, the store is very clean, well organized and produce is fresh! Definitely coming back!

A few things going for Safeway…
The bakery is the shining star. The breads come out great here… from the rolls to the sourdough loaves. Too bad the Artisan breads are premade and thawed out before sale… but they are good anyways. the breads… pies, cakes… most anything cooked… come out very well here
Prices are very good. Overall… it seems like I save more money here than other supermarkets. My meals are planned around the specials.
The beef is very good. The quality of the meat is noticeably better than other stores like Giant.
A few things not going well for Safeway…
The store in general is kinda dirty. Sometimes I have found moldy bread on the shelves. You have to look carefully at the dates to make sure you didnt get an item that was overlooked during restocking.
Frozen food department is lacking quality control I have found many times… ice cream in containers that were obviously melted and refrozen. Over the years they have had problems with their freezer units… a few times throwing away a whole shelf of items because of freezer mishaps.
The vegetables and fruit do not have the highest quality standards. Many times the greens in the shelves are wilted and starting to decay. Many fruits are picked way too early… so they dont have a good flavor
Overall this is a 3 star store… but it should be 4 or 5.
