Have not been here for years. Went for Sunday lunch. First the service — slow in getting a table. Place is not that big and while that seemed to be one individual’s job, others, include the female bartender did not even acknowledge us when we were waiting. Seems like everyone only does their job. Also, while we were served quickly, no one came back to ask if we need anything until we were ready to leave. As for the food. Very reasonable prices and large portions. I had the cajun wrap. It was good — nothing special. It did not have a lot of taste. My wife had the turkey sandwich and it was huge. I liked the atmosphere of the older style. I would go back as I think there are somethings I would like.

Quaint atmosphere and I think some if the servers have been here a long time. Food is good and the price is reasonable. I like coming here on and off for a nice, pleasant meal with friends. Nothing to write home about. But a nice, relaxed atmosphere and good food.

I’ll start with the not so great first. Some of the less experienced staff still provide good customer service but usually look a little dazed when they make a mistake and usually have to ask who got which drinks after having taken the drinks order, and then go back and get the drinks. Otherwise… The food is delicious, the portions are freaking huuuuge! the prices are great, and there’s always a meal you’ve never had that you just have to try. It’s also got a bar too.

My wife and I stopped here the other night with some friends. It’s near my wife’s work and we hadn’t been yet, so we made this our destination. We made 8:30pm reservations but when we arrived, it was just beginning to clear out some so we’d have been fine without them even though it was Friday night. Even thought it took about 5 minutes before anyone can to the front to seat us, we were served pretty efficiently. My wife got a salad, I had crab soup and a Trolly Burger, and our friends got pasta and a burger. I have to say, the portions are huge for the price and none of us left hungry. The burgers were cooked to order and mine was both tender and juicy and was topped with bacon. Beautiful, tasty BACON. This, matched with the Swiss cheese, made my night. It also came with a hearty helping of fries and a couple slices of decent pickles. My wife’s salad was a serious plate too. I even munched a bit of it and found it refreshing and tasty. Might have to get that next visit. Overall, the wait service was very casual and they missed my soup so I had to ask for it again. But it wasn’t like they made any big mistakes and being near the end of an obviously busy evening(we closed the place down), it’s forgivable. Parking it really tight though, and even with Lot A right next to it, we felt luck to find a spot. Would we go back? Yup. The food and service aren’t spectacular but it’s relaxed and we had a good time. Already talking about when we can hit it again.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. Parking can be tight, a few spots out front. When you walk in the bar is the first thing you see. The dining room is very dark and the dark wood doesn’t help. The server was fine but a little sassy. The menu is an assortment of bar food, pasta, and diner meals. I ordered the open faced hot roast beef and mashed potatoes. The food came out fast and was huge! I enjoyed the dish but masjed potatoes were so so. Overall decent place but could use updating some.

This place was very«meh» as far as atmosphere, décor, and service. It’s definitely a hole in the wall place, so I’ll cut them some slack, but I wasn’t impressed. The food was decent but nothing spectacular, and the service was rather slow and unenthusiastic. The place had a rather dull and uninviting feel to it and the décor looks like it’s been there since the 1920s. Our food did arrive quickly which was nice, but we sat at our table with empty glasses about halfway through the meal and no one ever asked us if we’d like another round of drinks.(Yes I would like another beer, thank you). This is probably the 3rd restaurant I’ve been to in the past couple of weeks where the server didn’t bother to ask me if I’d like another drink. To me that doesn’t make sense, but I digress. The staff members were also sitting at a table right next to us eating their lunch while on the clock(perhaps on a break, but still) which seems unprofessional. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for years, I realize that you need to eat, but in front of customers? C’mon!

It’s a old favorite for me and my wife, normally after church on Sunday morning. I’d suggest going earlier than later, it gets crowded after 10:00. Food is consistently really good. fries are wonderful as is the crab imperial, and the wraps, and the burgers, heck, it’s all pretty tasty just go! The only knock is the coffee, really, really bad. BYOC!

Little local hole in the wall restaurant/bar. Staff is very friendly but a little slow. Shrimp bisque was good. Burger was cooked to temp and the fries were frozen crinkle fries. Steak with baked potato looked real good. Probably should have gone with that. I will be back to try other items.

Stopped for lunch. Had the Black and Blue Burger. It was cooked just as I ordered it. I would definitely come back. Service was excellent. My ice tea was kept full and she checked on us to make sure we had what we needed.

Loved this place. so glad that Unilocal recommended it! My friend was in visiting from out of town. I picked this place for the historic location with a quick walk to main street ellicott city. The atmosphere definitely gives that old town feel. We had the crab dip… the best I’ve tasted here. I would go back just for that and have been craving it since. We shared the shrimp salad sandwich… also delicious! Our waitress was very nice and friendly too. After lunch it was an easy walk down to main street with a beautiful walk along the way!

Love this place! The building is super cool, with lots of history behind it. The food is petty typical bar food, but it’s really good! I’ve gotten the Montana cheeseburger and fries and it was sooo good! There is limited parking but there is a lot right next to the building within a short walk. Go!

We’ve only been here for weekend breakfasts, so this review doesn’t speak to their lunch or dinner options. First off, this building is awesome. So nice to see an older building that hasn’t been torn down. It’s usually pretty crowded at breakfast/brunch time, but we haven’t had to wait longer than 10 minutes or so for a table. The food is pretty standard diner-ish fare, with lots of egg dishes, pancakes, etc. I’ve tried a couple of their omelettes, which were good. The SO likes the traditional eggs/bacon/potatoes meal. Service has been fine. Great location, since you can stroll around historic EC while digesting your large breakfast!

Friendly atmosphere and staff. Tasty Maryland crab dip and french onion soup. This is a good place for lunch to fuel up for a pleasant afternoon in Historical Ellicott City.

Slightly higher prices than what you would expect at a place like this but with it you get: Huge servings, fresh ingredients, recipes that use lots of cheese and butter and a ton of character and history. 4 stars!

Started with the stuffed mushroom caps and then I had the chicken Chesapeake while my guy had the shrimp salad sandwich. Both were delicious and from a picky eater who grew up in Maryland the seafood was far above par. The crab imperial and crab stuffing had little to no filler in it and due to me having a gluten intolerance I was super happy about the imperial being a yummy mesh without a bunch of breading filler. Will defiant key come back as well as recommend it highly to others!

The Trolley Stop has a charming, old-fashioned ambiance and large portions at a reasonable price. I also like the location, which is right next to one of the last free parking areas in Ellicott City. The lunch menu is dominated by sandwiches and burgers, and includes classics along with a few more creative options. I found the food tasty(although definitely diner-style), and everyone’s burger was nicely cooked to the temperature requested. I also appreciate the option to cut the grease with a variety of healthier, veggie-based sides, rather than just traditional fries included. The service was competent and prompt. Oddly, they tried to seat us directly in front of the door on a very cold day when the restaurant was nearly empty… but they seemed happy enough to accommodate my request to sit somewhere(anywhere) else.

Revising my review because I took my mother here on her birthday(Christmas Eve) And the staff was so rude to us and everyone that walked in after. I called the night before and was told they would be open until 3. When we showed up at 1 we were greeted with,“Kitchen is closing in 45 minutes!!” We said that was fine, I mean its lunch not a 5 course meal. We were made to feel uncomfortable and so was everyone after us. The waitress was loudly complaining about needing to shop still. Last I checked Christmas comes the same time every year. It’s not our problem you didn’t finish shopping on time. Bottom line is, don’t open the door if you don’t want customers. I won’t stop going but I won’t push this place as a friendly local spot either. The food is yummy for a diner but the service sucks unless you’re a biker and personally know the staff. This is a great little local spot that is perfect for when you’re craving homestyle comfort food. HUGE portions. My husband and I recently discovered that they have delicious crab cakes so sometimes we will order the platter for carry-out and split it. The cheese steaks are monstrous and so good. Breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday and that was our first love here.

We’ve been coming here a long time. We love that it’s close by and inexpensive. The service is fine, but not stellar, and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Every time I go, they try to seat me at the table directly in front of the door, which opens every five minutes with a huge blast of freezing(winter) or humid(summer) air. The other tables aren’t bad, though the whole place has sort of a grimy feel(it’s actually a lot better than it was in the days before the smoking ban. I could hardly stand to be there then!) The food is also good, but not stellar. Their burgers aren’t bad for $ 10; I like the black and blue, but the bacon cheeseburger is also good. They come with a choice of fries, coleslaw and a few other things, but not salad(I know many diners have this policy, but I don’t have to like it!) Their dinner salads, on the other hand, are gigantic and very fresh. The French Dip sandwich is quite good, as are their soups. They do great diner-style breakfasts, and we’ve been known to cancel out a long walk on the Trolley Trail by coming here for bacon and eggs midway through. Overall, it’s a decent and fairly cheap place to have a meal; stick to the short-order basics and you’ll be happy.
