I am not usually one that complains, and today my fiancé told me not to complain in the restaurant and we could go get me a burger after this… Which is not how I should feel after just getting delivered an aged dry-rubbed 16oz rib-eye at an area steakhouse. My steak was literally 8oz fat and 8oz steak at best. Well, now I know why they say the Gin Mill is the best place to go for meat in this area!

For steaks there is no better place in town. Meat is aged and cooked to perfection. The wagyu strip is the bomb. Also a big fan of the bouillabaisse. Great wine selection and fantastic staff.

A little disappointed… First off the salad was just not good. I think it’s always important for a steakhouse/upscale restaurant to make a good first impression and have some fresh leafy greens and some killer dressing. It lacked both. For my entrée, I had the linguine and clams with the white sauce and it was pretty underwhelming and lacking taste. Definitely not worth the $ 26. My friends had steak and were also disappointed. I’ve been here years ago and do not remember it being bad, so not sure what happened.

I had the seafood salad, something I normally would not order«inland.» It was fantastic, big scallops, and shrimp the size and taste of Monterey prawns, almost lobster like. We had a fantastic Spanish mussel appetizer and an ok bottle of wine. Th staff was friendly and attentive.

MEH… Thin steak drizzled in about a quart of melter butter. One of the only times in my life I’ve sent a meal back. The second steak was overly salted. I wouldn’t recommend this«steak house.»

The Silver Fox is, without a doubt, the BEST restaurant in Ellicottville. The service and food are exceptional. Last night, we had the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer to start — which, as always, was fantastic. It comes with two large shrimp that are so juicy. The sauce on the shrimp is incredible too… it is a must to try! For dinner, we often have the tenderloin steak. The quality of the steak at The Silver Fox is excellent — so much flavour! And, most importantly, the steak is ALWAYS cooked exactly how we order it. The bar area is always a fun place to go for pre-drinks and even for dinner too. The friendly bartenders(Bob and Bill) are superb at making drinks. My husband loves the dirty martinis. My favourite red wine at the Silver Fox is the«Cleaver» — give it a try if you are a red wine drinker! The main area of the restaurant is also filled with excellent staff(such as Jolisa, Erin, Tyler and Laura… just to name a few). The service is always very friendly, and they all seem to truly care about ensuring that your experience at The Silver Fox is a great one.

Customer Service at its worst. Arrived 8:30 pm on Saturday night, seated soon after getting a drink at bar. Should of taken notice when our waitress began by telling us what they were out of… 3 out of 4 ordered the a-la-carte Ribeye 14 oz. our waitress said that they would give us the 16 oz. special. The steaks came way undercooked. Sent them back, came out right 2nd time. Then the check came we were up charged $ 13.00 per steak because they were out of our size, $ 13.00 for 2 oz more… After bringing it to the waitress attention we waited 10 minutes to be told we got a special steak and had to pay the $ 13.00 each. Asked for the manager who refused to do anything. We will never go back or recommend to anyone.

The nicest restaurant in Ellicottville. Service is great. My favorite items on the menu are the duck risotto, waygu strip steak and I also enjoy the salads and pizza’s. The owners are friendly and the staff is attentive. They have a great whisky list often making it hard for me to decide if it is a scotch or bourbon night.

Don’t order the Wild Mushroom Pasta, you’ll be paying $ 18+tip for spaghetti in unflavorful heavy cream sauce and little bits of mushrooms to a point where mushrooms don’t deserve to be in the title. Also don’t order the Sea Bass on the specials menu. Service was okay. Maybe it was the day I went, but I’d try another restaurant before I tried this one again.

Eh. It’s ok. Wouldn’t survive in the city but they serve passable steaks in a town devoid of streak houses. We were able to walk in on a crappy raining Saturday during ski season and get a table at 5:30ish. Skip the prime rib, while a decent streak, it’s not what a classic prime rib should be. The Filet was very good and both steaks were cooked as asked. The sides where all very good. Drinks were spotty. My manhattans were good and well made, my wife’s G&T was all T and no G. Our waiter was iffy, asked if we were splitting our entre … It’s also a cougar haven petting zoo and the median age of the typical diner is probably pushing 50. Kinda loud too

We ate here for hubby’s birthday. I had French onion soup which was done to perfection, tasty & perfect temperature. Hubby had the crab cakes which were good but way too expensive! $ 12.00 for two little cakes! My entrée was the cab calloway(filet & shrimp) which was absolutely delicious! The shrimp was so big I thought it was a lobster tail at first! I also recommend this dish as it comes with mashed potatoes & mixed veggies. I don’t think any other entrees do. Hubby had a strip steak that he enjoyed. He ordered a side of mashed potatoes(they don’t have baked potatoes! what??) that came in the same type of soup crock my French onion soup came in which was weird. He wasn’t too thrilled with the mashed potatoes but he is a big gravy eater so he missed his gravy. We were presented with a little peanut butter chocolate cake dessert for hubby’s birthday. It was yummy! I don’t usually like peanut butter desserts but this one was good! All in all we had a good time, service was adequate & liked the food but won’t be rushing back any time soon. It is way too expensive & way too noisy in there.

Came in with a group of 7 on a Friday night. We were seated immediately. Our server seemed to have a little bit of an attitude, like she wasn’t having such a great day. But she still did her job and got us what we needed most of the time. If she had been friendly she would have gotten an additional tip to her automatically added percentage though. The mixed drinks(martini, old fashioned) were very strong. My crown and coke was not. We ordered side shots of crown to pour in. The appetizers were great. I tried the crab cake and asian delight potstickers, and both were very good. The rest of the table really enjoyed the cheek and duck wings. For my main course I ordered a Caesar salad with filet, with a side of fries, kind of planning on throwing it together for a Pittsburgh salad. Unfortunately my fries never arrives. Even without the fries, my salad and steak were phenomenal. My friends all enjoyed their meals as well. Steaks were cooked as ordered, which is harder to accomplish than it seems, based on my experiences at other steakhouses. Bill was less than we expected, so this place gets a good review. Give it a try.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would, without hesitation. If you take a look at my other reviews you will note that I am certainly not kind when it comes to my opinions of sub standard restaurants and the value they provide the customer. But if a place impresses me, I’m all over it with an affectionate documentary. Well, this place did it. We arrived early which was key. We got the table we wanted, had well prepared cocktails by a very pretty bartender, and had an extremely good waitress serving us. She wasn’t an inexperienced coed. But rather a middle aged former manager of the silver fox who decided to come back and serve a couple nights a week. She was lovely. Very friendly and always knew the right timing when it came to waiting on us. She really was that good. I hope she can pass on her knowledge to the inexperienced staff that I am sure work there. On to the food. Superb. French onion soup, superb. Pork cheek appetizer, mouth watering(my favorite menu item by far), Caesar salad, very authentic with anchovies and just the right amount of properly prepared dressing. I had the pork medallions. Excellent. Not overcooked and the melted blue cheese crumbles gave it just enough tartness. My gf had the 10 oz(seemed more like 16 oz) strip steak. It literally melted in your mouth. No fat to cut away, no grizzle, just absolutely perfect. All we added was some salt to enhance the flavor. I don’t know what the other Unilocaler is talking about when it comes to charred tasting steak. I didn’t get that impression at all. It tasted like well prepared BBQ. I would disregard the other Unilocaler’s comments. Desert. We had toffee cake. Omg. All I can say is wow. I was leery about toffee as I don’t like it on its own, but the way this was prepared with a vanilla pudding, chocolate glaze etc blew me away. Just magnificent. The silver fox staff don’t make their desserts but they certainly picked the right dessert supplier to provide a perfect meal ending. The place is a bit pricey. But this Unilocaler will be accepting if the service, ambience, and food quality all combine to form a perfect storm of dining delight. Well, the silver fox did so well that I don’t have a single thing to complain about. And that is such a rare thing for me that it’s about as rare as winning the lottery. Tip: go early before the damn extended family parties of 12+ arrive. Staff isn’t swamped, drinks arrive promptly, good tables to choose, and kitchen isn’t backed up with orders. You won’t be sorry. It’s also expensive enough that the coeds keep away. They bug me when I go out. Loud, obnoxious, DRUNK! You know. This place caters to the more affluent and family oriented types. Not to mention couples interested in the finer things in life. Not for the bud light drinkers and that’s perfectly fine with me!

We ate here 2 Saturdays in a row. The second time was just for desert and drinks. The food was great and the service was friendly and fast. The outdoor dining with live entertainment was wonderful. The only thing we can find fault with is the prices are a little bit high. We loved our visit both times.

I came in late one Friday night in early March with a group of friends. The staff was friendly, the food was good, and the wine flowed like, well, wine. You really can’t ask for more… I mean, its not 5 star dining, but I don’t think they pretend to be. You get a really good meal for a reasonable price in a fairly casual environment. Perfect for the nicer dinner in a ski weekend.

Nice atmosphere, a little on the dark side. Halibut cheeks– wrong choice. Caesar salad good. 12 oz ribeye– very charred tasting but perfect medium rare temp– but I couldn’t get past the burnt taste– and I love charcoal grilled steak. My son said his pizza was«ok». May have been an off night, but I won’t be back to risk that $ 75 again.

Ordered the rib eye. It came with(what they call) roons(which are small seasoned button mushrooms), steamed mixed vegetables, maple mashed sweet potatoes and a small side salad. Although pricey, it was well worth it. My only complaint about the food would be the lack of salt. The atmosphere was fine dining but cosy. It was dark, old world, and candle lit. The bar was semi separated and small but a nice waiting place. Only Sam Adams and Guinness as draft choices though. The restaurant is also small and they definitely need new chairs. Very uncomfortable chairs. Our waitress was extremely nice. She knew the small but fulfilling menu really well. There was another waitress that was annoying that kept coming to our table to get rid of our dishes. The food was fine dining that included a pork belly appetizer and a grilled boar chop and asian tuna as specials. However, they are known for their steaks. which were phenomenal. But they did run out of the sirloin. You can see the chef grille the steaks on an open flame through a window in the kitchen which was neat. The price for the ribeye was $ 35(pricey but not bad). But each Pepsi cost $ 1.85 which was pretty ridiculous(since it was a 5oz glass). Although there were minor complaints, this place is definitely recommended if your in ellicottville. But expect to spend at least $ 80 for two people.
