We got a killer deal on a half bushel of apples-only $ 9 because they were smaller sized apples, but that is the kind I prefer. I hope we can eat all of these. The Apple cider donuts we bought are just awesome. It was nice to buy some things here and then cross the street to buy some other things. A neat atmosphere.

Go. Just GO. This place. Oh MY! Yes, to the apples, the peaches, the tomatoes, the cider, the PIES, the cider doughnuts… all good. But. the MUSCADINESLUSHIES!!! You’ll go back again and again, the whole time you’re in town. I’m not kidding. I can’t stop thinking about these things! Love the folks, love the atmosphere. This one is my favorite of all the places to buy apples.

We have a cabin in Cherry Log and have been driving 515 now for 6 years. We would always go to Panorama for our apples, etc. Last year I went to Penlands for the first time and I am a true convert! They actually grow the apples that they sell and the apples are top quality. Their large apple pies, either fresh baked or frozen, are the best I’ve ever had. Family members ask us to bring some back for them! They have a complete array of jarred spreads, relish, salad dressings, etc., as well as some fresh potatoes and veggies. they have amazing apple cider. The people who run it are super friendly and helpful. They have a short season — when their apples are sold out, they close; usually by the end of November. But, while they are open, Penlands is my apple house of choice. Love you guys!

I’m just going to point to what Mick wrote and nod. Also, this is a great place to pick up chow chow, or as I like to call it, redneck kim chi. One of these days I’ll figure out a good recipe of my own for it. Until then, I’ll snag a jar every time I’m up this way.

flaky, delicious fried apple pies at $ 2 a piece and hot cider made with love. Although this joint is not as extensive as the place across, i dig this one a tad better due to their flaky kind of fried apple pie. Also, they had a two-man blue grass band right at the door and it just added so much warmth and that familiar yet whimsical moment that you can only wish for once in a while. we ate our fresh hot fried apple pie and sip a magical cup of hot cider as we looked at the rolling mountains of georgia sprinkled with the colors of autumn. the cool breeze lifts your spirits and lovingly cradled by the beautiful violin and banjo of their two man blue grass music. put simply, so far in my travel-filled, spontaneous-fueled, sometimes uncertain life, if i die tomorrow, that moment of me sitting outside this store eating pie, drinking cider, and all of that i just said — that one moment in my life will be one of the things i will re visit.

I like this place. It’s homey. Friendly. Folks greet you with a smile and make sure you leave with one, too. I’m not exaggerating. I’ve noticed this every time I’ve visited. It doesn’t matter how crowded it gets, the people here are just pleasant. If you’re lucky, there will be some live bluegrass playing. I just discovered they have a back«porch» where you can enjoy a nice breeze while you’re noshing on your apple goodies. The apple fritters are freshly made and will rock your face off. This is because the fritter is as big as your head. And it is delicious! You should definitely share it with one or two of your friends. If the fritter is not your thing, they have fried apple pies, apple cider donuts, various hot & cold drinks… It makes me very happy to note the fruit ciders aren’t all diluted with apple juice. During the fall, you’ll see a ton of traffic heading up and down the highway to enjoy the mountains. Penland’s is nicely situated to be a quick stop along the way, and you’ll find tons of apples, jellies, ciders & juices, and many other locally made delicacies. Don’t be in a rush. This is a nice place to take a break. I’ll probably head to the hills next weekend, and plan to stop here on the way. Holler if you’re coming with!

Stopped in on a recent trip and loaded up with apples, cider, fritters, and so many extras. Their prices were great and the people who assisted us were delightful. Strongly recommend!

If you walk into Penland’s almost as if it’s an after thought after visiting Panorama across the street, you will initially feel disappointed. It is abut 1⁄5th the size and has less products, but this store makes up for it with good old fashioned service. Everyone working there seems happy to see you and it shows.

The best apple fritters, and it’s always our first stop when we head up this way. On this early Autumn visit we also picked up some honey and a muscadine slushie. They also had a great selection of pumpkins at decent prices. The parking lot lanes are spaced very close, so make sure you pick one that you can back out of later.

Great little place with lots of goodies. I enjoyed some boiled peanuts, my wife and I also bought some doughnuts made with apple cider, and we also had some peach cider. Staff were very friendly. Lots of peaches(apples not in season) and some select vegetables make this a must stop location to get some great fruit and tasty offerings. Panorama Orchards across the street has a large store with LOTS of stuff, jams jellies, fruit, pies and candies… HOWEVER they refused to speak to us. Seven employees in the store… we were the only customers and they never said a word. We walked right out and straight to Penlands… who are not affiliated with Panorama.
