Talk about rude people. We were here about 2 years ago, so when our friends suggested going we were interested. When we arrived we found out ownership had changed… and for the worse. We ordered fried dumplings to start. The dumplings came out burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. We each had cut one open and checked a third. When we told our waitress she took them back and brought 3 dumplings back to replace them. Well i guess we did check the other 3. Our friends ordered beef terriyaki that was so tough you could lose a tooth. When we left the owners did not even acknowledge us. Will never be returning to this place again. Thank god for the Oriental Café in vernon ct. and at uconn. Billy and Feng are the best !!!

BEWARE! This business has very unprofessional and unethical practices. If you are using a groupon, savenowct or anything similar they give less food. They specifically ask you to tell them up front. Giving less food defeats the purpose of having the voucher in the first place. The worker there even blatantly admitted to this and got angry if you don’t tell them up front you have one. What a scam! On top of that, the customer service is terrible and the young girl will call you names and swear as others have said here in various reviews. Absolutely terrible. The food is not very good either nor is the atmosphere. The worst restaurant experience I have ever had was here. If you look at their reviews elsewhere and how they respond to those reviews, it tells you everything you need to know on why you should avoid this business.

The customer service is horrible. They respond to bad reviews on Facebook with nasty insults in broken English. Not to mention the place stinks!

Horrible people!!! They will steal from you and call you despicable names!!! Read the other reviews from today. This business obviously doesn’t care about customer feedback!!! Also, their seafood is undercooked!!!

Almost passed this place up from some bad reviews and was glad I tried it today. Everyone was very welcoming and kind here. Service was amazing fast. Had the sweet and sour chicken which included rice and soup for only $ 9 on a Saturday with a large portion of chicken. Never charged for the tea before the meal bit it was too watery and didn’t taste Chinese was my only dislike here. They should get rid if the TV which ruins the atmosphere here as well for some music. They also had a an awesome spicy beef with broccoli that was delicious. Very clean and nice inside. Will definitely eat here from now on.

This was a pleasant surprise as the previous Chinese Restaurant in that spot was less than satisfactory. I ordered their Gung Bao Chicken and was completely shocked at how nice and spicy it was, normally that dish should be spicy but rarely is in my experience, this was right where it needed to be and then some. The chicken was cut into unusually small pieces almost as small as the accompanying peanuts and there were peanuts a plenty, another nice added bonus. The flavor and spice level was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed it, the only downside was the customary fried dipping noodles they bring to the table were past their prime and should have been tossed. This was a pleasant dining experience, Szechaun One is #one in my book

If there were a place for zero stars would have done so. I ordered Phở and twice told server no Cilantro. After waiting 25 minutes I got Phở with tons of Cilantro. When I returned to kitchen it came back to table in minutes. They washed or strained the Phở and returned to table with bits of Cilantro floating on broth, no onions(were in first bowl), no scallions. Tasted like dishwater. Also had California Roll. Rice was warm, wrapped so lose the rolls fell apart. Slow service and terrible food.

Don’t even bother. Got a little bit of everything. Dumplings, lo mein, sushi, apps. Everything is totally sub par. Won’t order again. There’s plenty of other places around that are much better

Really great chinese food. I have been to China and have tasted authentic food, and am therefore very picky about«chinese» food served anywhere but China. I really like Szechuan One and their portion sizes– the dishes I have ordered are almost as good as when I was in Asia… I also like their other ventures– the Shrimp Lo Mein is amazing. Will continue to frequent.

A restaurant with a wide variety of options across the Asian spectrum. Szechuan One is a relatively small place tucked away a little bit from Route 83. It can be easy to miss if you’re not familiar with its location. The service was friendly from the start and our party of three had the entire place to ourselves for lunch around 2 p.m. The décor was pleasant, but the ambiance was lacking as a large TV was loudly playing a show with gunfire and screaming. That’s not something you like to hear in the background while trying to eat. The table was elegantly set with cloth napkins and fancy glasses. Our server poured tea for us, so that was nice. We were given lunch menus and when I asked about something on the online menu, our server went back to get me the full(dinner?) menu. Note that they offer Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes. While the ingredients were fresh and the food wasn’t bad, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of accommodations. One of our guests did not want soup with their lunch, but the server said there were to be no substitutions. I asked if I could get the General Tso’s Tofu for lunch instead of the General Tso’s Chicken, but I was told that could not be done either. Really? I would have been willing to pay a dollar or two extra… I settled for the Mixed Vegetables and Bean Curd. The bean curd(tofu) was very soft in texture. Some crispiness would have been nice. The veggies were good though. In summary, the experience was okay and the food was decent. I would like to see the staff be a bit more accommodating. There are no apparent vegetarian options on the lunch menu and you’ll have to ask for the full menu for anything without meat. Even then, the veggie options are not terribly exciting.

Was very excited to come to this place but left in huge disappointment. When we first arrived, there was no other people at 6pm. When we left 2 hours later, still, nobody came… The waitress was very weird who was in her pajama suit? I understand this may not be the busiest day of the week but at least dress in something presentable. She handled our table with the least enthusiasm you could anticipate. Okay all these would have been overlooked had the food been a little appetizing. They all tasted weird maybe because this one sauce they put on. The food came out not even close to expectations. Some were overly spicy and some weren’t at all. My friend and I both thought every dish tasted like the dried beef snack you get in Asian markets. We left with most dishes nearly untouched…

First let me state that the young Asian lady that waited on us was friendly and tried very hard to please. However, that could not make up for the poor quality of the food. I specifically asked if Vietnamese food was one of their specialties and was told yes. What I got was poorly made and/or had reheated old ingredients. The Summer Rolls were missing most to the fresh ingredients, such as Thai basil, mint, or cilantro, All it had was lettuce and shrimp. The dipping sauce was also old and extremely thick with NO peanuts. The Phở contained a solid lump of previously cooked rice noodles and old and gamy tasting beef. It was not served with any condiments(bean sprouts, Thai basil, and fresh lime). When I asked for them, they eventually found some willed basil, fresh bean spouts, and a lemon wedge. Szechuan One tries to do too much for such a small establishment. Their menu has a Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Sushi sections. It is impossible to cook all of these dishes fresh with the correct ingredients. They need to focus on one or maybe two types of food. In the meantime, if I want Vietnamese I will go to a restaurant that specializes in that type of food.

The food here was really good. I’m very picky with my Thai food. The pad Thai and lemongrass chicken was really good. Also they give you very big pieces of chicken and very big serving size. Will definitely go back.

I get takeout from this place all the time. The food is consistently good, reasonably priced and ready when I stop in. Ordering from the app makes it even easier. The service is great when we dine in too.

Stopped in to check out the offerings based on the high ratings other Unilocalers have given. As others have mentioned the service is very friendly, both hostess and waitress. A friend and I stopped in on a Saturday night, and initially were the only patrons. Another couple came in about 15 minutes later. The room was oddly lit, only the lights along the wall were on. I’m assuming the chandeliers were off to save on electricity while the dininig room was not in use/only lightly used. There was a very banquet feel to the chairs, tablecloths, and flower arrangements on each table. The hot towels were a nice touch. I don’t recall seeing the use of hot towels anywhere else since Natori Sushi in Manchester closed. I had the egg drop soup and my friend the wonton soup. Both were excellent, very flavorful and fresh. I ordered the House Special Spicy Tuna roll which came with soup and salad. I substituted the egg drop for a small upcharge in place of the miso soup that came with the roll. The salad dressing was very light but far too gingery for my taste. While I like ginger ale and ginger used in cooking, I’m not a fan of biting into actual ginger pieces. The roll was decidedly subpar. I was concerned that low demand for sushi might result in older/not so fresh fish, and from the taste and look of the tuna, I was not wrong. I only ate a couple pieces before trying to forget about it to focus on my entrée. My friend had ordered the beef teryaki appetizer which I shared. Nice thick cut of beef on the skewers but the flavor was a bit lacking. There was no salty sweet flavor I’m used to. For my entrée I ordered the dry shredded beef, szechuan style. I found the salt! The peppers were flavorful and the chili oil provided a great heat to the dish but wow, next time I’ll go with the regular shredded beef and not the dry, I had to drink glass after glass of water! I really enjoyed some of the food I had, and was less enthused with some. I’ll definitely try Szechuan One again as their variety of food is intriguing. Overall, this trip though was a middle of the road for me. Hopefully I’ll find something to blow me away next time!

This is a great little restaurant tucked away at the top of a hill in a small strip mall off of West Road in Ellington. I can’t explain why this place isn’t super busy but both times I’ve dined in there were only a few tables occupied. I guess the secret isn’t out yet. The service is exceptional as are all the dishes I’ve tried. It is very neat and tidy and has a very quite and calming atmosphere. It’s a great place for business lunches or to carry on conversations with friends while enjoying a wonderful lunch or dinner. The prices are extremely reasonable and its just a great value from start to finish. They have excellent wonton soup its very flavorful and served piping hot. I love the pork fried rice and the beef with broccoli is some of the best I’ve eaten anywhere. I highly recommend you try them if your in the area best Chinese I’ve eaten in Connecticut.

I’ve been to Szechuan One twice so far in the past two months with my boyfriend. We ordered from the last page in the dine in menu which has the authentic Chinese dishes both times, and both times were great. We had jellyfish with minced scallion sauce, pork stuffed eggplant, and homemade tofu with spicy Sichuan sauce the first time, and ox tongue and tripe with hot sauce, double cooked pork slices, and dry tofu with green hot peppers in black beans the second. Both times the food was reminiscent of home-cooked meals and less than $ 30. They also offer complimentary tea and hot towels, and they have guava candy as well as mints. It’s nice to finally have an authentic Chinese place in this area. I highly recommend it!

I’m usually pretty skeptical of Asian restaurants that«do-it-all». Szechuan One’s menu is a smörgåsbord of Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, and maybe more. I decided to try it one day with my boyfriend because we were hungry and I was craving a cheap meal after a hard morning of house painting. We were 1 of 2 patrons there and were seated very promptly by an extremely polite waitress/hostess. While we perused the extensive menu, another member of the staff brought out hot towels to wipe our hands with. I really love when Asian restaurants do that, especially on that day when I was feeling particularly gross. I noticed a lot of really authentic looking Chinese dishes on their menu that I wanted to try to test authenticity. Something really cool about this place… I asked the waitress quite awkwardly what cultural background the chef was to get a feel for which dishes would be best. She very nicely answered that he was of Cantonese and Vietnamese descent. I asked for a particular dish in Cantonese and she was able to order it for me. SO happy to find a place in the Hartford area that would do that! Together, my boyfriend and I tried the stuffed eggplant(which was better than my mother’s…), house-made tofu(which was delicious), and the«Dry Beef Chow Foon» — my special request(which was slightly different from what I was used to but definitely delicious). We were both extremely happy with our food, service, and check! I will definitely come back again to try the many other dishes they have!
