This place was a little quaint place Loved the live jazz music The fish and mashed potatoes I had was probably one of the best dinners I’ve had in a long time Almost boxed the potatoes because they were like dessert and I thought about favoring them alone at my hotel lol!!! Staff is very friendly and overall it was a perfect night

4 stars because I have only been here once. Went on Saturday morning and were the only ones there for about 10 minutes. Awesome! The lady at the register was super nice. I didn’t pay attention to the whole menu, as I knew what I was after. A breakfast sandwich. Egg, cheese and sausage on an english muffin. Delicious! Appeared to be a homemade english muffin. Soft. Fresh. Girlfriend got a sandwich as well, which she enjoyed. We also got a fruit danish. I can’t recall the kind, but it was fresh and sweet and was gone within minutes. They have an assortment of beverages both hot and cold. The coffee is from Coffee by Design in Portland, Maine. The only other thing I paid attention to was the larger than life cookies in the jars on the counter. Worth stopping by. I imagine this place is a bit busier during the tourist season. I will def enjoy it while the season is slow.

A joint loses class when water is served in picnic wear. At an establishment I expect a glass instead of a plastic cup for water. Food was nothing spectacular. Corned beef hash was bland and actually needed salt added. Potato salad was good, but a small portion served.

Always happy when I leave Finns. Food is consistently awesome. Great variety of beers that constantly change. Friendly and knowledgeable bar staff. A real neighborhood pub vibe. The bar is in an old rail car. Nice deco feel. Trivia on Mondays is fun… If you go more than once you will see a familiar face!

This is the pub that we always use to compare to other pubs when we travel. Conversation often goes. Good but not as good as «Finn’s» We’ve had many of the dinners, Aps. and deserts and they are always noteworthy good. I really like their calm chowder, it has a pinch of fresh dill in it. If you’re in the mood for comfort food, their Shepherd’s Pie, Puff pastry stew, fish & Chips are excellent. Their seafood special dishes also have been great. And the Brew’s… :-) Note, word is out, expect competition for seating on prime time Fri. and Sat. evenings.

Service was a bit slow but the food was good. I had the artichoke stew and Ruben wrap. I would suggest the meatloaf sandwich as it looked amazing!

I regret having to write this review. Our service was so sub par, all four of us said we would not be in a hurry to come back again. My burger was cooked perfectly, the chicken wings and two salads were favorably commented upon. The tomato bisque and crab cakes were on(slightly burned crab cakes). So why the two stars? Our server«D» pretty much ignored our table. The kitchen had to be running behind as we waited over 30 minutes for a cup of tomato soup to be delivered as an appetizer, and only after I asked where it was, and was told«I put it in as an appetizer”~no commitment to check, but it was delivered after I asked. Dinner did eventually come, but drinks were never replenished(until we grabbed another server to help us). So the net result – a 10% tip. I do have to say the hostess was 5 stars. When it was clear my 86 year old guest could not get up into the bar chair table, she moved us back to the dining room, and said whoever had reservations would sit up front. I hate to think our service was directly related to the fact we didn’t order 4 dinner entrees.

Great ambiance in a cute little place on a cute little Main Street. We arrived around 8:00 and were told they closed at 9:00. The hostess and manager weren’t the politest in conveying that two large parties had just come in and they wouldn’t be able to serve us. Fine, no problem, but at least act apologetic. Finally, they decided they would serve our party of five if we split to two tables. Again, no problem, we were hungry and didn’t mind. We waited around 20 minutes for a table and were then served by an absolutely lovely server! FIVESTARS. As the kitchen was back logged with the two large parties, she brought us some snacks on the house. My salmon salad was good, but my sister’s clam chowder was phenomenal! Warning: strong dill flavors. My dad’s smoked fish plate was just okay. Portions were adequate for the price point and my salad was rather large! They seemed to have a great bar scene with a lot of selections of beer on tap, but we were just there for dinner. I’m guessing it was just an off night and would visit again if I found myself in Ellsworth in the future.

DW and I stopped in for the first time on Monday afternoon. The bartender, Morgan, was a sweetie and she was very knowledgeable of their extensive choice of nicely selected draft beers and ales. Our ales were fresh and good and we shared a reuben. The sauerkraut and corned beef were excellent and the sandwich ranked right up there with the best reubens we have ever tasted. The potato salad is unusual as it is dressed with olive oil and not mayo. It was very good, but loaded with salt. Almost so much salt as to make it inedible.

Ambience was great. However the smelly bar cloth smell as you walk in was oooh. We ate in the back, was clean and busy, the beer was excellent and refreshing! Disappointing fish and chips, because I was expecting Fries! ahhhhh in an Irish pub, you expect fries when you order fish n chips. Fish was good though. The blackened salmon salad was sad, tiny portion of salmon, it was tasty but dry.

It’s and interesting place with a train car for a bar, kinda odd set up place long and narrow and if seated in hallway area you have people walking by you all the time. The restaurant widens at rear and seating is fine, but certainly is not a large place. The service overall was pretty good and she was there when we needed her. The food I would say was ok we had the shepherd pie which was pretty good and burger that were ok. Things were pretty slow coming out of the kitchen considering we ate at like 2:30 in the afternoon I really wonder what happens when they are busy. The place looks to me nice if you want to go in grab a cold draft at the very nice looking bar area you can’t go wrong, but not sure I would go back for food. cheers!

Cute place with a neat history, which explains the awkward seating arrangements. Many local brews on tap and constantly revolving. My favorite is the shepherds pie. It’s a generous portion and the gravy is spot on.

We loved the food. Grilled Balsamic Chicken and Steak & Mushroom Pie. Also had a Scotch Egg for the first time, AWESOME ! ! ! Service as good, extremely friendly. Only complaint was dessert. Wedding Cake, no it didn’t work. It was not fresh cut, almost stale and the butter cream frosting was heavy and blah. Come for the food but get dessert elsewhere.

Just what the doctor ordered for the long drive from Mt. Desert Island back to Portland JetPort for our flight. Finn’s is a great beer bar, and is clearly popular with the locals(it was pretty full on a Friday afternoon). It’s a Maine pub through and through, with a healthy flavoring of Ireland. When I saw a corned beef and MASHEDPOTATO wrap on the menu, I had to have it, even if it’s not something I would ever normally get. It was filling for sure, but also quite delicious, so if you’re not particularly worried about your health, and just want an injection of meat-and-potato comfort, go for it. We also had the chowder, which was very good. And super-reasonable prices, too. Real nice option in this area – the little downtown strip is much more appealing than the highway running through Ellsworth.

I give it 4 for the food, but it deserves a 5th for the ambiance and feel of the place. On a cold rainy day I couldn’t think of a better place to roll in. The Shepherds Pie is honestly the best I’ve ever had, and the Fish and Chips were fresh and were fried perfectly. Was expecting actual chips, not crisps, but the crisps were good enough that I don’t mind it. Beer selection is great, got all my northern favorites, and the bar’s well stacked with the Irish classics. Can’t recommend it enough. Hit it up whenever the rain comes

Excellent Reuben sandwich. House made chips are great. The beef and mushroom pie was great as well. My only recommendation is to cut the steak into smaller pieces. Eat here.

I can’t stop thinking about the Scotch Egg and macaroni and cheese. This was my first Scotch egg and it was everything I hoped it would be. Rich, perfect temperature and not at all greasy. It was served with a lemon aioli that tasted more like mustard than anything else but it was good. The macaroni and cheese was absolute perfection and what all mac and cheese should aspire to be. My fiancée ordered the Irish Nachos which were pretty tasty. We finished the meal with an Irish coffee, a chocolate martini and the Guinness chocolate cake. The drinks were nice and strong and the cake was heavenly. I don’t usually like cake frosting because I find it too sweet but this frosting was to die for. The only reason Finn’s doesn’t get five stars is for the service. While our waitress was very friendly, the service was slow. This won’t deter us from returning to Finn’s next time we’re in the area.

For an appetizer, I split the smoked seafood platter. First of all, I love brown bread(like from a can). The smoked mussels were also delicious. What surprised me the most was the smoked scallops — I can’t remember a time previous to this experience that I actually enjoyed scallops. These little guys were addicting for sure. All other scallops are inferior. Included in the lunch specials for the day was a crab BLT — hellooooo obvious choice. The combination of these beautiful things with rye bread was excellent, and worth having again. Last but not least, clam chowder. I had never had chowda with dill before, and it was perfect(if you like salty things like me). What a treat this was! We were driving through town and got lucky.
