Best. Pizza. Ever. Hands down this is the joint to go to when you have that dicarlos craving. I live 350 miles away and im wanting some now. To be honest, just thinking about those crunchy little squares of pizza, with the cheese popping off like flavor crystals in your mouth, make me want to drive up there right now. I’m getting in my car.

The pizza is great, but the queuing system and payment methods need modernized. We ordered and were told it would be 45 minutes. I’ve been standing in the shop for more than 45 minutes. Somehow there needs to be a queue that takes into account both ordering time and arrival time since they’re not cooking per order. Also, adding somewhere to sit while waiting wouldn’t be a bad idea. Finally, how crazy is it that they only take cash in this modern age? Move to 2000 and get a credit card machine.

To me the cheese tastes like it is made of white rubber. There is much better pizza elsewhere in Wheeling.

Pizza as a whole is about 4.0 stars. Great crust and great sauce… would actually rank those 5 stars. I just don’t get the cold cheese and toppings. Cook a pizza, take it out and put cold toppings on top? I guess some people really love it. Where it loses stars is they have a very whacky ordering system.

Dicarlos pizza is very much an Ohio Valley classic, crispy, crunchy and overall pretty good pizza but the ordering and pickup process just makes no sense. You can call in your order of how many slices or trays of pizza you want and you are given a number and a time estimate of when you can pick up your order, which can be anywhere from 30 minutes to the heat death of the universe. Upon arrival you check in with cashier, state your number and pay for your order. You then get stand around for an unknown amount of time waiting for your order. Other people will be there waiting with you and you are all eager to hear you number called, don’t worry about the order of numbers, if your order number is 56 you can expect them to call out 94, 2, 65, 36, 1, –154, 83 before they get around to you. At least while you are waiting you can watch the pizza being made which is an experience as they make pizza with something I have never seen used before to make pizza– a carving fork. Yes, they open the over doors, partially pull out a tray of pizza and use the carving fork to lift the corner to check the underside of the crust. Then the tray is spun to the next corner and the process repeats until the entire pizza is checked. I would estimate each pizza is checked about 20 times in 20 minutes because this place lacks any sort or timers or process for cooking the pizza, its all carvings forks and corner checking. Once you do get your pizza you can do your short victory walk to the door as you get to leave with a box of hot fresh Dicarlos, but don’t forget the extra cheese– at least a $ 3 bag worth.

Excellent! Sometimes a long wait, but that’s because it’s so yummy and they’re busy. They do not melt the cheese, it’s just thrown on top. Sounds strange but It’s really great. Highly recommend.

not a great place to sit down to eat, pizza pretty good, service the worst. and even if you call to order a pizza to pick up, it’s crazy poor service, we don’t go much anymore

Simply awesome! A unique taste you won’t find anywhere else! Call ahead or be prepared to wait! And it is different than the other DiCarlo’s Pizzas so try it here before you knock it.

Lady that answered the phone was rude, laughing, and didn’t even say hello. Then she said it was an hour and a half wait… On a Tuesday… For a few slices of pizza. No thanks, this place instantly lost my business.

I have had pizza all over the world and DeCarlos is by far my favorite. Do NOT pass through this area without getting this to go. Opens around 3pm and you may have to call a few times before getting through. Usually pickup is around 45 minutes or so.

Spent a week in Wheeling West Virgina this past summer with family. My brother in law, who grew up in Wheeling, was adamant that we try Dicarlos pizza. I believe we went to the orignal Dicarlos Pizza shop. We ordered an enormous ammount of pizza for everyone. It was a little odd the way they sell the pizza. You buy it by the slice. A slice is one dollar. That’s the way they do it and it’s work sinced they opened so why change it. They have a unique way of making the pizza. The crust and sauce is cooked and then they add the cheese and toppings. I thought this was a little odd at first until I took my first bite. It was so good that you would slap your grandmother for another bite. You would be tempted to punch a baby in the stomach for a whole piece. The different textures and the cold and the hot sensation was something I hadn’t expereinced before. Needless to say we went back several times that week for more. Everyone, over 25 people, loved it. Order ahead to time because the wait can be long. Give it a try. You will be back for more. The way they sell the pizza and the unique way they make it is why people talk about Dicarlos. Great marketing on their part even if they are not aware of doing it. This pizza isn’t for everyone. If your looking for chain pizza then this isn’t your place. If your looking for a great pizza and a great pizza experience that is truly unique to Decarlos then I highly recommend Dicarlos.

This pizza is Jesus pizza, okay? Don’t come here if you are looking for a a greasy, American pizza. Wheeling really should be called Little Italy, because the culture is so strong here. Anyway, this is square, crunchy crust, brick oven pizza with a tangy sauce and a light coating of fresh mozarella. It is absolutely delicious. If you still want to try it, get a few slices, but you’ll be back for a box. Best part is, even if you’re dieting, you can pig out. 3 Weight Watchers’ points a slice!!! I miss Wheeling and DiCarlo’s.

Stopped in this DiCarlos since it is proclaimed as the first and original. I was sad to taste this version. If you Have Not had they DiCarlos in Weirton off of Three Springs Drive(not the downtown location), I dare u to try it. It blows this version away. If you blindfolded yourself, you would pick the weirton location. I am not be biased but there is no comparison!

Pizza here is dirt cheap at $ 1.11 for a slice of cheese pizza. The crust is very thin and they only add the cheese AFTER the pizza has been baked. It’s like three levels above a lunchables pizza. Apparently in the men’s bathroom there’s of a football field with numbers painted on the yardlines. And something is wrong with how it’s numbered? I didn’t go in there but everyone who did thought it was funny.

Went there back in dec after Xmas shopping and it was freezing out, ordered before leaving the highlands shopping center, when my dad and I arrived I decided to wait in the car. I was in the freezing car for an hour before going into the store to find out wth was going on, I was told«we are waiting on the correct amount of slices». Finally got my pizza after explaining to them how terrible that was. I have a dicarlos near my hometown so I know it’s not the company practice just this particular store had no clue wth they were doing or were to stoned to think correctly. Everyone I know has this issue. At mine they will make a pizza and get the right amount of slices even if there is no other orders or they have to make two. The people seemed confused and lost. Would not return and highly suggest everyone go elsewhere.

We were driving thru from cincy and decided to stop after reading some reviews. We were really disappointed with this pizza. The sauce was sweet tasting but bland, and applied sparingly. The crust was semi ok, but each slice had only 2 pieces of cold pepperoni. It was really cheap @ about $ 1/slice, but took forever each time we ordered 3 slices. We had to order twice after seeing how small the pieces were. For someone who is expecting a «normal» style good pizza — this isn’t it.

It makes me happy to see other reviewers all longing for this pizza. It’s truthfully the only reason I go home for Ground Hog day.

A different pizza than you are used to. The crust and sauce is cooked and then cut into pieces. Cheese and toppings are then put on top. Great flavor, I love this place. When I’m in wheeling, I always get take out from this place.

I grew up eating this pizza, and so did my mother. I love that their prices are still ridiculously inexpensive, and the service is always excellent! When I go to Wheeling, if I don’t bring DiCarlo’s back to my family, I get in trouble. The pizza from the DiCarlo’s in Elm Grove is better than any other DiCarlo’s — trust me on this. Patsy still uses original recipes, and it can’t be beat.
