I’ve come to realize that I love BLT’s. I suppose it’s because the«B» is for«Bacon» and bacon is … well … awesome! To quote Jim Gaffigan, «Bacon’s the best, even the frying of bacon sounds like applause.(sizzling sounds) YEAAAABACON!!!» Well they have a really great BLT sandwich at Doc Ryan’s. And, if that was the only thing to rate them on, they’d get 5 stars. I also had the chili which looked great, but ended up a little too soupy and bland. I asked for some jalapenos, which they were happy to provide, and that improved it, but not to the point that I’d order it again. It’s a solid bar, but needs some major improvements. To me, chairs without backs are just not comfortable. The tables, walls, bathroom, etc. need to be refinished /remodeled. As of this writing there are ninety-six restaurants in Elmhurst. I plan on eating at, and reviewing, every one. Follow me on Unilocal

If you’re drunk and looking for food and beverage, this is the place for you. Otherwise, don’t bother. Went on a Saturday for lunch, and was told it was dollar burger day. Sounds good, wasn’t expecting much since they’re a dollar but figured we would try one with the appetizers and beer. Bad decision. The food all tasted burnt and needed some serious seasoning, and we were served everything on styrofoam plates! Really? I get that it’s a special, but you can’t put it on a real plate for me? No thanks.

Part of me wanted to drop a 1 star just to scare people off, I couldn’t do it. The negative review are hilarious. Yes, this isn’t a day spa… it’s a Irish bar that has solid wings, good waitstaff and great prices. Perfect neighborhood bar.

Love this place for their lunch specials. Taco Wednesday and tacos like I make at home yummy. Sloppy joes on Monday, and again taste just like the ones I make at home. Just your average neighborhood bar but food is good and waitstaff are always friendly.

I’m not sure why this bar has so many negative reviews. I’ve been coming here for years and it is continuously improving. Awesome specials every day. Great Irish atmosphere. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wishes to enjoy their life and have a good time. If you’re looking for a quite glass of wine docs probably isn’t the place. But if you wanna knock down a couple rounds with some great people, defiantly give it a shot.

It is what it is, its a neighbor bar, in elmhurst IL. The staff is friendly and they remember you. It’s a nice place to catch a Hawks game. Some people are complaining about under aged kids there, I have not noticed things like this. You do occasionally get some younger looking kids in there, they almost never cause a problem. My only complaint would be to have a larger beer selection.

Trashy, trashy, trashy! Under-21 college kids pretending they are in their 20s, and over-30 married people also pretending they are in their 20s. The whole place stinks like Red Bull and the ladies room is by far the grossest in Elmhurst. The must keep the temperature in there under 50 to keep bacteria from growing. The last couple times I was there with my boyfriend, the female bartender would only make eye contact with him and completely ignored me. I had to ask him to order my drinks since she apparently only serves males. Weird.

I went here for a friends bday last Saturday and it was surprisngly fun. I generally dislike the bar scene and haven’t really been to any of the bars in E-Town besides Pints. The BF and I were pleasantly suprised. We were in the back half of the bar, and pretty much took it over. Our bartender was awesome, I asked for Dirty Girl Scout shots, for me, the BF and the birthday girl and while they didn’t have the stuff to make them, he ran around trying to figure it out. My favorite drink of the night, and general go to drink, was the vodka gimlet. I was kinda impressed that it actually tasted right, not just like vodka or lime. I’m pretty sure everyone else was having a great time also. We only expected to stay for an hour or so and ended up hanging out until close. So our bartender was awesome, and it was surprisngly fun and not super duper crowded. We’re going to try and go back… and I’m going to try and drink less, since the Sunday hangover was rather impressive.

UUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH. Bar, beer, food, service… no matter what you rate here, it’s just ‘blech’. At least there’s parking… It’s really the only thing Docs has going for it.

I love this place. I have been going to Docs since I turned 21 and 10 years later, it’s still an awesome place to grab a drink. Everyone there is cool and laid back. You can go grab a drink and not worry about any goofs trying to bother you. Would def recommend…

Meh… Ok place to come if you’re looking to watch a game or grab a beer on a weeknight, just don’t expect too much. A young crowd, probably a lot of the college students who are there w/fakes. Waitresses are more interested in socializing with friends than waiting on their tables. Food sucks. I would stay away on the weekend unless you’re looking to relive your glory days as a college freshman.

I have nothing but fond memories from any time I’ve been here. I honestly haven’t eaten the food, but have had many friends work here and have found them and the rest of the staff to be very friendly. I like any bar that doesn’t have to have a theme or pop music blasting and this is my kind of place

I can’t really comment on the after-hours drinking aspect of Doc’s. I have only frequented Doc Ryan’s during lunch hour. Their burgers are good, not great and they have a decent buffalo chicken sandwich. However, their beef and cheddar sandwich is outstanding!!! I get a craving for that sandwich every now and then which prompts a lunch trip to Doc’s. My biggest complaint about docs is the smell of the place. Whenever I go in there, the place smells like a urinal cake. Disgusting. If they fixed the smell, I’d give ‘em an extra star…

Just a sap bar on a busy street of Elmhurst. Nothing special about it as it is connected to several other stores and businses on Spring Road. near the praire path. Elmhurst college students go because it is not really far from campus and mainly young folks feel need to drink. Doc Ryans in forest park is alot better and bigger than this place, but I guess Elmhurst students prefer this place. This is a pretty cool looking bar though.

This place was great when I first turned 21… now I go and it reminds me of how glad I am not to be 21 anymore. I like places that serve you drinks in bar-ware… not disposable frat cups. The ratio of people is like so: 80% 21 and under with fakes and 20% parents of York high school students looking for their youth… specifically«dolled up/washed up» mothers praying to God that one of their kids friends refers to them as a milf. And terrible drinks BTW… could be the plastic frat cups they came in though. If you think Popov brand vodka is top shelf, you’ll prob love it here.

This was my favorite Elmhurst bar years ago, when my buddy lived out there! We’d go and have some drinks, and watch the Bulls Playoff games back in the day, then drink with«Mrs Doc Ryan». not sure if the owner is around anymore… but she never believed i would drive from Chicago to Elmhurst to go to her bar! so i’d have to whip out my ID… then she would buy me a beer! we’d have a good burger… and waffle fries… then go to the back of the bar for darts and Golden Tee Golf! Just may have to pop in sometime… good food, good drinks… good times!!! always a good time…

If I were to pick 2 words that could sum up my college life — Doc Ryan’s. Ah, good times. I logged more hours with friends in this pub than I ever did in the school library. Now that I’ve been out of college for quite some time, it serves as the meeting place for us Elmhurstian-Alums. I have a little reunion coming up and cannot wait to head in there to catch up with everyone. This spot is very«St. Elmos Fire”-esque … wow, look at me getting all nostalgic. weird.

Doc Ryan’s is a long standing neighborhood tavern type of bar located in south Elmhurst. Although I don’t frequent this place often, as it tends to be pretty smoky and at night attract a young, college age crowd, many long time Elmhurstians make this bar a tradition on holidays. Sounds goofy, I know, but Elmhurst is one of those kind of towns where people are raised here, grow up and leave for a short time, but end up back here; so we have many third and fourth generations of families living here; and the great thing is you’ll see them at all the local neighborhood bars on the holidays! We love stopping in at Doc’s on Thanksgiving morning after the annual Turkey trot to have a couple to start the day, see friends, and enjoy the holiday spirit, and this is the perfect neighborhood place for that. This bar reminds me a lot of the local neighborhood taverns that are scattered around the city — remember the places that your uncle would bring you to when you were a kid, the places that the whole neighborhood hung out at, young and old? Doc’s has many different personalities, but it definitely has a lot of that flavor to it. It’s smoky, it’s loud, but it’s a great neighborhood bar!
