The food was good and the wait staff was very friendly. When we first we walk, the hostess said hello and sat us down. We order the food and the food was tasty. They were very nice and very attentive. I had a good time here and I will come back if I’m in the area.

Not fancy inside(or outside) but the food is good, the prices are fair, and the service is on point. No sooner had my buddy and I sat down than appeared in front of us a small bowl of pickled and slightly spicy radishes. Pungent little set they, but tasty as all heck if you ask us. For an app, we each had Roti Telur which was accompanied by a bit of curry chicken. Most folks tend to gravitate toward Roti Canai and I’m a fan of that as well but the Telur offers a bit more flavor and the satisfaction that the egg it contains provides. The curry was tasty and not spicy so it will appeal to all palates. For our main course, we shared the Hainanese Chicken and Beef Rendang. The chicken was definitely healthy tasting and appeared to have been boiled. Also, it’s served cold & accompanied by a tangy soy sauce. I’ll have to admit this was my least favorite dish as I don’t tend to like cold chicken and because the other items ordered packed a bigger punch of flavor. The beef was definitely tasty and tender as anything, coated in the not-too-thin curry it was made with. Beware that neither of these dishes come with a side of rice. No big deal as we each ordered our own bowl of chicken fried rice at our waiter’s recommendation. The rice was perfectly cooked and had enough chicken flavor but not so much that it overpowered or conflicted with the Rendang. Seeing as how we packed away a fair amount of food, we skipped dessert. A shame, really, but we know for next time to order a little less on the front side so we can try out some of their desserts. Apart from the food, the biggest plus was the service. Our first waiter(I wish I caught his name) was«above and beyond». Very personable, always anticipating when we needed a refill on our drink or new plate to eat from but never intrusive or annoying. Sadly, he had to depart about 2⁄3 of the way through our meal and there was a little falloff as the remaining waiters weren’t quite as aware. Not a complaint so much as an observation as Waiter #1 was just that good. We’ll definitely seek him when we come back here.

Ordered house Fry Mackerel with coconut rice, awesome! they were 2 small plain deliciously fried fishes, however be warned that it seems to be normal for them to leave the guts in. I know cause I asked them. It was a new experience. And it was great I could handled it.

I’ve been coming here for many years now. I think this place has changed for the better though. The service is always respectable along with reasonable prices. Always get the roti canai! They mainly lose a star because how close the tables are positioned. Other than that this spot always fills my thirst for some quick Malaysian food.

5 stars for delivery foods. I ordered twice from them on GrubHub and so far it maintains god consistency. A breakdown as follows: — Roti canai: the pastry is huge, with thin layers and fluffy and almost still hot at the time of being delivered. The curry sauce is also appetizing and they never skimp on the amount of chicken. — Seafood Tom yum soup: it’s s Malaysian/Singaporean version of Tom yum with less spicy ness and a bit tomato flavor. The soup is clear and full of «real» seafoods — not imitation crab meat only. You can find 3 – 4 shrimps, squid and clam meat in it. — Curry me: I only had the soup instead of the noodle. But the coconut curry broth is amazing. Thick, flavorful, but not oily, and you can almost taste the ingredients in it. It’s also good if you dip you roti canai or white rice in it! — Young coconut: fresh and big at $ 4.75. I’m glad that they made a pretty cut under a plastic wrap outside to enable you to sip the coconut water without wetting your hands… very good though. In total, this rest had become my customary delivery choice. And you can order authentic SEAfood for 2 ppl for $ 20 something if you live in a free delivery area, which is perfect for a cold day!

Excellent dishes… they really have distinct flavors. It’s hard to tell from just reading the names on the menu, but the dishes taste great! I have enjoyed every dish we have ordered. I will definitely recommend the crispy to appetizer. Nice bonus shrimp roll and cirpsy tofu to go with the regular roll.

OK, Pulau Pinang is a small island in Malaysia, but it’s a busy city, second close to Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant here is something they could do better. I liked Laksa from here. It’s served in a big monster bowl. If you’re not a fish eater, don’t bother. My husband ordered something that I wouldn’t order from any Malaysian restaurant even though I’m from Malaysia. You have to order certain dishes at a Malaysian restaurant, do not order Chinese food here, order what is popular in Malaysia. I’m Malaysian so I know. I find that a few dishes are way too much oil, this is the thing I couldn’t handle because back home there’s not too much oily stuff in the food I eat from my mom’s cooking. Maybe Malaysians eat all the time but not too much oil though. I enjoyed Asam Laksa, the fish soup with udon noodle. My husband wouldn’t order this he said. I think the management has changed. It got a B rating but hopefully they will develop.

Tastes just like home. Born and raised in Malaysia, I’d say this is as authentic as its going to get. Sangat sedap(very delicious)! Things to get: beef rendang, beef satay, basil noodles, roti canai, nasi lemak or start off with the Hainanese chicken rice for something mild and light.

I had the Scallion Chicken over rice lunch special and it was really good. It was really flavorful but not too oily. They even threw in a vegetarian spring roll. I called to make the order and it didn’t even take them ten minutes to make the food; it was really quick.

It was around 10pm and I was looking for a quick delicious dinner. My Unilocal buddy had pointed out that Palau closed really late at night. Had to take the takeout home and jump onto a business conference call. My friend presented his latest findings as I spooned salted fish fried rice and roti canai. The food is solid, the fried rice was the consistency I was looking for and the roti was just flaky enough. I still prefer the roti curry from Taste Good around the corner, but I like the prices here at Palau a lot more. This is a Malaysian bang for your buck restaurant. Enjoy.

They made a mistake about what I ordered. My advice is to speak loudly and slowly and review the order with the waitress before you go. My food came out in 20 minute and it was the wrong order. The waitress was very slow to respond and seem irritated to be corrected. Taste saves the restaurant because everything still tastes right but presentation was rushed and not as pretty as the price entails. Too bad. I wanted to like this place more than the minimal three stars

I think that I might not like Malaysian food, which is the reason I’m still giving them 3 stars. I ordered the Pinang Char Kway Teow for delivery(stir-fried flat noodles with shrimp, squid, eggs, crispy pork and chili paste). The shrimp, squid, and pork were delicious, but the noodles were really dry while still being sort of harsh in the flavor department. Whatever was in the sauce I didn’t enjoy on the noodles, which was fine because they all clumped together in an inedible mess anyway. I also ordered the Sambal Udang, which smelt awful as soon as I opened up the container. I’m pretty sure they just used a LOT of fish sauce. I tried to eat it, lots of things don’t smell so great but taste wonderful, but this wasn’t one of them. I took one bite and tossed it. Again, I think after trying three dishes I’m not going to fault the restaurant, I think I might just not care for the flavors of this cuisine. However, it was part of a lunch special that comes with«soup and two sides of the day». No sides were delivered, and the soup reminded me of a bland, wonton-less Chinese wonton soup, only with big chunks of lightly cooked carrots and potatoes. The roti canai though? Yeah, I could drown in that. I ordered the Roti Telur this time too, a pancake filled with egg, onion and green chilies served with that awesome curry chicken potato sauce. This was great. I love roti canai so much that I wish I had an excuse to order from here more often, but as it is I just don’t think it’s for me.

Came here for«lo hei»(Chinese New Year celebration done mostly in Singapore and Malaysia) and was not disappointed. They accommodated our request to have no carrots in the lo hei — even though I know this is not auspicious, we had a friend with a carrot allergy and that’s just how you had to do it. We had the lo hei, roti prata, Malaysian pork chop(on our friend’s request — was not expecting much but it was good), and Belacan Special which had a bunch of mixed vegetables in belacan including petai(stink bean.) All were very good and I would love to try this place again. I really appreciated that the waitress helped us translate all the random auspicious sayings from the lo hei into English for our(and my) benefit. Sigh, my Chinese is so poor!

Once my table of five was seated, we quickly place our order for three roti cani as the appetizer. The waiter who took down the order did not write it down and before going to the kitchen, he answered the phone for a takeout order. I made a joke that he was gonna forget the order. The waitress then placed the food order and we also reminded her about the 3 roti cani. I guess they figured out they had forgotten about the roti cani and treat the table to a mix veg dish. The roti cani came out the same time as our main dishes. It seem like we had to hurry and eat the roti cani before our noodle dishes absorbed all the curry. The Food: Roti Cani: was great because of the crispy of the flatbread. The side of curry that came along with the dish was a little bit watery. Hunanese chicken: HIGHLY recommend ordering this dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful. I will also suggest order this with a side of yellow rice. Curry Noodle: I order it with rice noodles just to try it. I will probably stick with the standard yellow egg noodles. The rice noodles absorbed alot of the curry since they roti came late. The curry broth was delicious and spicy. Which is perfect for this weather.

For the first time, I actually wished Unilocal could let us give half stars. But I guess I’ll round my 3.5 up to 4 since they speak English and offered me a big mug of hot tea while I was waiting for my takeout on a freezing February night. Roti Canai — my must-order appetizer at any malaysian restaurant — this one didn’t fail Curry Mee — shrimp and chicken noodles in spicy lemongrass broth — the broth was amazing but the meat/noodles was mediocre House Special Pork Chops over rice — half of pork chops were either fat or tough to chew, fail Sponge gourd over bean curds — squash and homemade tofu — delicious with perfect texture and amount of salt The total came out to be $ 30 and was enough to feed 2 hungry people. Pretty good deal, I must say!

I’m surprised the ratings for this place aren’t higher though it seems that they’ve switched owners fairly recently. The items on the menu most definitely aren’t Westernized Chinese dishes, unless you specifically look under their Westernized Chinese dishes sub-menu. My mom and I ordered way more than we could finish cause we wanted to try Malaysian cuisine. Authenticity-wise, the food was a bit questionable since all the members of the staff were Chinese(and a couple were Shanghainese). Then again, the chef could be Malaysian. Who knows! Taste-wise, everything was delish! We ordered tofu satay, vegetarian curry, malaysian fried noodles with shrimp and chicken, sauteed okra, and chinese squash with special house-made egg tofu. Starting with the appetizer, we ordered the tofu satay cause my mom is a vegetarian. The tofu came perfectly fried, crispy on the outside while remaining soft and pillowy on the inside. There were four on the plate and each was overstuffed with fresh, thinly sliced cucumbers and bean sprouts, then sprinkled with a hefty helping of peanut crumble and drizzled in satay sauce. They were messy but yummy. Then, came the main dishes: My mom ordered the vegetarian curry, which she promptly wolfed down, and I ordered the Malaysian fried noodles with shrimp and chicken. I tried a bit of the vegetarian curry: It was seasoned perfectly, an aromatic blend of spices against the backdrop of coconut milk, but a bit too spicy for my tastes. My Malaysian fried noodles were perfect! When the waiter asked which noodles I’d prefer, I asked him to recommend the kind of noodles that most Malaysian customers order. He suggested a mix of thin and medium wide noodles. It was an interesting dichotomy of textures and both noodles were still thin enough to soak up the spices and sauces. My only complaints about the dish were that the shrimp weren’t cleaned to my standards(the black line on their backs, which are their intestines I think, weren’t completely removed) and the noodles were a bit overly oily. The seasoning was fantastic though and I’m salivating a bit just thinking about that dish! Our waiter, who was super friendly and helpful(him being Shanghainese and able to converse with us in our own dialect probably helped too), also recommended the sauteed okra dish when I asked about mainstays of Malaysian cuisine. My mom has made okra many times at home but I’ve always shied away from trying it so this was actually my first time… and I must say, it’s not my kind of veggie. A cross between a zucchini, pepper, and an overstuffed pea pod… it was quite a frightening texture and I could barely swallow the thing. The seasoning though, was great — very aromatic, savory, with a hint of spice. If you like okra, this could be a nice dish to try. Finally, my mom looked over at the neighboring table and saw one more dish that she wanted to try: the Chinese squash and tofu dish. Our waiter told us that the tofu was a special tofu made in-house; It’s a mixture of egg and tofu. Of all the things we tried that evening, I must say that you HAVE to try this tofu! If you like tofu at all, this tofu will have you reeling in delight! In this dish, the tofu was melt-in-your-mouth soft on the inside and perfectly crispy on the outside, with a hint of egg to surprise and amuse the palate. I am also a huuuge fan of Chinese squash so this dish was a big hit with us. The only problem was that the tofu was extremely filling(plus, we had already wolfed down so much other food) so after one or two bites, we had to pack everything to go. Due to the egg content, the tofu was also a bit on the greasy side — not terribly so, but noticeable after a few bites. When we were done with the meal, the waiter, who had been a joy all night, was kind enough to give us a sample of their red bean congee! Red bean congee is one of my favorite things and theirs was cooked to perfection: Soft and thick(but not mushy), full of flavor and aroma, with only a slight hint of sweetness(so as not to overpower the naturally aromatic flavors of the beans and grains), and topped with a small spoonful of coconut milk. Absolutely a delightful way to end the meal! Food: 3.5÷5 — Most of their dishes were fantastic(with only a few minor flaws) and the portion sizes are huuuge! I only question the authenticity of this place since there seems to be a lot of non-Malaysian staff running it. Service: 5⁄5 — An absolute joy! The waiter was super friendly, attentive, and helpful, and judging from other reviews, it wasn’t only cause we were all Shanghainese. Seems like most of the wait-staff here provide exceptional service. Atmosphere: 3.5÷5 — Really quite nice for this area. All the other shops by the supermarket are super run down and dirty. This one is clean, spacious, and welcoming, with only a few minor flaws like an unfinished floor. Overall: 4⁄5 — Great food & fantastic service

Food is a solid 3.5, but the service was really friendly so Pulau Pinang gets rounded up. I came in around 3:30 on a Sunday, and I was surprised the place was 2⁄3 full in mid-afternoon. Must be a local fave! They let us choose our own table when we came in. Always sit as inside as possible; the double door system in here is still pretty drafty. The woman who greeted us seemed super excited to see us even though we had never been here before. The service was overall relatively attentive for an Asian place, and they always seemed to happy to get us something! I got a pineapple fried rice, which I thought was reasonably spicy though I’m also pretty intolerant. They slice up the pineapples into thin little strands instead of chunks, which didn’t help with the spiciness. I thought there was way more rice than other stuff though it was topped off with a decent number of cashews. It still tasted good, but I wouldn’t have minded a sweeter taste with more pineapple.
