I live close by this location. Finally, me and my husband gave a try yesterday since this place looks busy most of the time during PM. My husband loved the pork jerky and the fried chicken. I really enjoyed their Lychee sake mojito. Coming back for sure!

The pad thai was way too sweet! The food was okay! First time trying Thai food and was a bit disappointed!

Went for father day dinner. Both the basil duck and the spicy as all hell jungle curry were amazing and the coconut sticky rice is always good. Just wish they had a full bar but the sake mojitios are not bad

I live about two blocks away from here and I always come here about 3 times a week. It’s about time I wrote a review. I always get Pad see ew with shrimp and my husband likes to get Thai fried rice with beef. Sometimes we switch it up and get sushi too. The Eel unagi Don is very good and such a good price for lunch special. Their strawberry mojitos and Thai ice tea are very good too. They have a large Thai ice tea for like $ 6 but they literally put it in like large beer glass. Soo cool. I do deduct one star because one time we dined in and had dessert we ordered ice cream. I believe they did not have vanilla and went out to get some but it tasted very bad. After serving it to us and the server noticing that we barely touched, it he told us that they had ran out of their original ice cream and had to go out and get some from the deli next door. I would appreciate it if he had told us he was out of his original icecream and we would have gladly ordered it next time or ordered another dessert. Oh wells. I still come back though because their food is still very good and service is decent

I love coming here, so I’m not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars. Most of these complaints are about service, but I’ve never had a terrible time with this place, whether I was dining in or ordering out. To start off, they’ve definitely got a nicer interior than some of the other Thai restaurants in the area(on the block?). It’s perfect for a casual lunch, and even though it doesn’t look huge they make the most of the space that they have. One of my favorite things abou this place is their LARGE iced tea. It’s actually huge, and it doesn’t come with a huge mark-up in price. I can’t speak to the authenticity of this place, but I do know that they make crispy calamari and a tasty beef pad see ew(my go-to order). I discovered recently that they also have a great dessert — the crème brûlée cheesecake! They brulee the top of the cheesecake so it has that classic crunch, and the cheeecake under that is soft and creamy. It also comes with some chocolate drizzle and some sort of fruity preserve. So good!

I arrived early with a friend. Good service in the day. Jumbo thai ice tea is perfection! Great curry(the best I’ve tried so far) and tofu! Their peanut sauce is great especially since peanuts are one of the few that I eat. Volcano ice cream is good but I wish it was warmer. Other than that, everything was great! Oh and great lunch specials and prices!

I think it’ll be fair to start off with a disclaimer that I’m not a fan of Thai spices and actually prefer more Americanized Thai food. I haven’t had Thai food for a long time and with a leap of faith(or mere desperation while looking for food in Thai town), I entered Spicy Shallot, a Thai and Asian fusion restaurant with a lovely and warm décor. There’s even a sushi bar in the back. Spicy Shallot gave me my first enjoyable pad thai experience in years! I also tried their curry chicken and tilapia. All 3 dishes exceeded my expectations and I’m excited to return for more Pad Thai and try a jug of their Thai Iced Tea! Who knows, maybe I’ll even try their other Thai dishes! My only complaints: Service is slow and their volcano fried ice cream was nasty.

If you love Thai food then you must come here. I brought my family here on mother’s day /dad’s birthday. The service is excellent. The restaurant owner makes you feel at home. He takes care of you as his own. The server’s are really friendly. Always smiling. It’s just really good vibes. The food is really good. definitely check this place out, you won’t be disappointed

Hard to judge… my fave had a long line so I came here. Only had Satay and Mango Shrimp Salad. Both satisfied the Thai craving, but without a hot dish, I can’t go higher than 3 stars.

Came here on a Saturday night around 11pm. I did not anticipate how crowded it would be around this time. We were able to get one of the last two tables left. We ordered the jumbo Thai iced teas and they were indeed jumbo! They also tasted really good, not too milky or sweet like some places. For food we got the tom yum soup, spicy basil noodle, and volcano chicken. The food came out extremely fast and hot. The spicy basil noodle was really good and I would definitely order again. The soup was good but not the best I’ve had. The chicken was alright but was a bit on the sweet side and I probably wouldn’t order again. This place also serves sushi but seems to be more of a Thai restaurant than Japanese one.

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and the food is good however the waitress doesn’t have enough knowledge about servicing. When I ask for bill, the waitress didn’t add item on my bill after she charged me she ask me to pay again where tax was charged second time. This was disappointing because it wasn’t rush hour & she had not much to do.

I am a huge fan of Thai food… Asian fusion. Anything in that mix. I was having a girls night and we wanted to eat something, but it was late. I started to Unilocal and came upon this place. The fact that it closes very late on a Saturday night, which is great especially when you having a late night hang out. I like their food. I give them 4 stars because everything was pretty good, but better attentiveness. We came in party of 3. Waited 10 minutes. The waitresses were sort of attentive. We mostly had to find them, they barely came to us. The menu is pretty great, prices really reasonable. Their strawberry and lychee mojito was great! I must say curry puffs are everything to me and my friends when we go to Thai restaurants, it’s pretty okay, but not amazing. My friends ordered lettuce wraps, chicken/shrimp dumplings, calamari, and the mom chicken crêpe dumpling. Allllllll tasty! We truly enjoyed it all. We were so full that we ordered sushi rolls, but decided to take it home. Everything else was pretty good though. We had fried ice cream with red bean and they flamed it! Which was pretty cool. Overall, I would come back again!

Overwhelming. The Pad Thai and Pad Si-io was drenched in too much sauce that it felt heavy on the palate. Service was alright. Ambiance was cool – there’s a dragon on the wall and it’s apparently done by hand! Menu is extensive and covers both Thai and Japanese foods. My friend likes this place, but I’m «meh» about it. Overall, not my cup of tea.

If I’m looking for Thai food in the Elmhurst area, I like to stop by either Spicy Shallot or Ayada. Usually, my decision is based off of the one that does not require me to wait. Today, Spicy Shallot won(and it usually does end up being my choice as their location is simply bigger and as a result, accommodates more customers). The décor is nice, the staff is friendly, and the price is right! I find that their dishes are consistent and tastes good. Their cashew peanut/pad thai/massaman curry are excellent– not too spicy either(if you aren’t one for spicy foods). I also recently learned about their jumbo sized drinks. Check out my attached photos. CHECK. IT. OUT.

A cozy quiet restaurant good for dates. They have a wide selection, which was great. Service was prompt, albeit not too friendly. Would rate it a 4, if it weren’t for the pork chop. Thai iced tea $ 3 This was so delish! I don’t know how it’s better than the others. It was creamy and tasty. Next time we’ll get the large $ 6 one which comes in a huge beer mug to share. Poseidon $ 6 Spicy scallop, crabstick, squid sashimi with wasabi mayo dipping sauce I liked the dipping sauce. It was only a teensy bit spicy. Presentation was cute too! Spicy basil noodles(drunken noodles) $ 10ish Yummy and very tasty, this was a good drunken noodles. Above average, but I won’t be dreaming about it. Pork chop $ 10ish It didn’t look appetizing at all when it arrived. Two thin pieces of dry-looking pork chop were too tiny for the plate it was served in, with rice and some cuts of carrots. The bf said it was extremely dry, and I felt bad for him. PLEASE take this off your menu. Or make it better.

First time here today and I must say I had an overall amazing experience. Starting off with; Food: I give the food a 5⁄5. My boyfriend had the Spicy Basil Fried Rice with beef which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the Pad Spicy Basil Chicken with white rice which was outstanding. Not to mention the food is highly affordable and their lunch special(11 – 4) is a great deal! Ambience: The ambience is a 3⁄5. Its a very tiny restaurant with worn out tables. The place gets very crowded because it is popular and it gets to the point where it basically feels like you’re sitting with the people in the table next to you. Overall however, I definitely recommend you guys try this place out!

My boyfriend and I are frequent eaters at this restaurant. When he first introduced me to this place, we didn’t have any idea we’d come here so often! The food is great and very affordable. The lunch special is about $ 7 and very filling. Staff is attentive and friendly. The décor combined with the size and seating of the place gives the restaurant an all-in-all cozy vibe. My favorites: 1) pad see ew: succulent noodles of just the right texture combined with perfectly cooked beef 2) spicy basil fried rice: the spiciness gives me a very satisfying warm feeling in my tummy 3) Salmon Lover: ikura topped spicy salmon roll. In a word, amazing. Not only was the salmon fresh tasting but the texture was so smooth. I don’t know if they always offer this sushi since when we ordered this, it was a special but literally ALL the sushi at this place rocks. 4) molten lava chocolate cake: my boyfriend and I fight for the last spoonful of this warm, chocolatey goodness. And you can’t dine here without ordering their Thai iced tea! It’s never overly sweet and it’s super refreshing.

The bf has always been a fan of this place for their décor, proximity, price, and late night foods. Once of the best things about Spicy Shallot is their massive Thai Iced Tea Extra Large drinks. It’s been consistently humongous and delicious, just don’t think about the calories. In Woodside, Jackson Heights, and Elmhurst, there is never a shortage of Thai restaurants. It’s easy to fall into complacency and forget what you’re up against. As far as we can tell, this place has always been good at a decent price. It’s not one of the cheaper ones, but it’s not overpriced for what you get. Their offerings are typical of Thai restaurants from fried tofu, to pad see ew, pad thai, etc. What’s different here is they also offer some sushi items and decent mojitos/alcoholic drinks. AND they’re opened late on most nights, especially on weekend nights.
