Nice environment and great food … I was there 2 weeks ago, know the owner he is a great person and very friendly. Lolly pop chicken is a must

This hole in the wall serves delicious Indo-Chinese food. We originally came here because my Bengali friend said Tangra Masala was one of his family’s go-to restaurant, with his favorite dish being the Lollipop Chicken One interesting thing is although the staff seems completely Indian, Tangra Masala is actually owned by Peter Lo who is of Kolkata Hakka descent. I did not realize at the time I went, but this explains the interesting dichotomy of flavors where the dishes had such a familiar Chinese taste, but were still Indian in nature. We ended up ordering the following: Lollipop Chicken– This was super crispy and juicy. Definitely a must order. We almost did not save my Bengali friend any because he was 40 min. late. Tangra Masala Fish w/Gravy — My favorite dish of what we ordered. The dish consisted of a breaded white fish in a somewhat sweet, savory red sauce. Vegetable Manchurian w/Gravy — I loved these little fried balls of vegetables. I had something similar at Nanking in Jersey City. I think the in Jersey City were better and had a stronger taste of cabbage, but these were delicious too. I can’t tell what vegetables were used because it was pureed into some kind of fritter. Hakka Noodles — Off menu and tastes pretty much like regular lo mein. I’d skip ordering this and just order lo mein at a Chinese takeout restaurant. Beef and Broccoli — This was pretty mediocre. It almost has the taste of Beef and Broccoli from a Chinese takeout restaurant, but something is missing, probably garlic and ginger. Overall, I recommend getting the Lollipop Chicken, any of the Tangra Masala dishes, and the Manchurian dishes. You can order the dishes as dry or with gravy. We went with gravy for most of them since I love ladling sauce on my white rice. I think the dishes are normally spicy, but we asked them to make it mild for my friend who cannot take spicy. The portions are actually somewhat small but the flavors were delicious and the food came out fast. I had a satisfying meal. I’m glad my friend introduced this place to me!

My Family and I use to frequently visit this location up until they expanded near Sunnyside. Well we’re back again after the new location started lacking in food, service & quality. The smaller shop still has its charm as a small«hole in the wall»,(do not expect a 5 star appearance) the food outstanding, service like a charm, the quality was also on point. I did notice there quantity decreased so maybe they could fix that part. The only negative is the wait if you come on a busy night. We waited about 20 – 25 mins but it was totally worth it. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you have not tried already. Some of the best dishes, Lollipop chicken, Chk Manchow soup(they can split in half if your sharing, also called 1 by 2). The tangra masala beef dry and mix fried rice. Also the chicken chilly dry is my favorite, they can make it with sauce if you prefer. Oh btw, for the non-risk takers, be careful of the spices and ask for mild or you’ll lose out on the flavors.

Their lollipop chicken is amazing. It comes with a sauce that is soooo frikkin good. My friends and I always order the chicken hakka noodles, chili chicken, tangra masala fish and manchurian chicken. It’s a bit expensive so we come here once in a blue moon. But when we do come here we eat like animals lol.

This place is very unique, for me. It is a great fusion of Chinese and Indian food. It’s good to know its cash only, and the space is small, so it can get crowded quickly. But I really enjoyed the food here. Definitely worth coming back to try the other dishes. Couldn’t decide between dry recipe or with gravy, so we tried both. Really distinct flavors between dishes, and the lollipop chicken was perfectly crispy. Great find!

Let me start by saying I don’t think it’s fair to give a place short of 5 stars only because it’s cash only. There are reasons for it being cash only. Anyway let’s continue. Walked in, people were very attentive. I had the manchurian gobi(cauliflower in a brown sauce) had this as an appetizer and it was DELICIOUS! Next I ordered the lollipop chicken which was pretty good. Had the manchurian beef with white rice and the mixed singapore rice which was excellent. Loved that they cleaned both sides of the shrimp, that gets an A+ in my book. Overall the food was great. They do add tip to the bill but they deserved it. Place was great, I’ll be back soon.

For starters, let me just clear up the fact that even though this location is a hole in the wall compared to the other location, the workers here are so much more friendlier! I’ve been to the other location numerous times, and although the food is almost equally good in both locations, the customer service sucks! This location however, is the complete opposite. They include the service tip into your bill so that they don’t have to rudely stop you and make you tip them a high amount like the other location does, and they are quite friendly. Coming down to the food, it is amazing in both locations. I end up coming to Tangra Masala for their lollipop chicken appetizer, which is to die for! My boyfriend had the Tangra Masala soup with shrimp for appetizer and it was the best thing in the world! For the main course we had the Tangra Masala chicken fried rice and chicken sizzler and although the taste factor was there, I didn’t appreciate the amount of oil the fried rice had and the weird consistency of the sizzler. Even though I hate the other location for their customer service skills, I do have to commend them for their food, it is a lot better compared to this location. Regardless of the minor problems we had, all in all its a good restaurant to stop by and enjoy some asian fusion cuisine!

This place looks a bit sketchy at first but the people there are very nice. The food is also very good. When they brought out the fried chicken I initially believed this is probably an Indian version of Popeye’s but I was dead wrong, the sauce with the fried chicken was delicious, and I don’t eat fried chicken! I had 3 pieces. Its magic! I got a pimple the day after though. YOLO right? I’m definitely going to come back.

3.25÷5 Chinese meets Indian @ Tangra Masala! Came here at 6PM with a friend, just before the place slowly started getting packed. We sat for a good 6 seconds before the waitstaff focused their attention on us and a waitress hurriedly rushed to hand us the menu. I’ve never tried Chinese-Indian fusion food, so it was a pretty interesting experience. We ordered Lollipop Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, and Tangra Masala Vegetable Chow Mein. The waitress warned that the Vegetable Chow Mein would be really spicy, but it was pretty mild. The Chow Mein was rubbery, but the Indian flavors were there. I wasn’t a fan of the long-grained rice used in the Chicken Fried Rice. Yes, there’s fusion going on here, but I felt that the rice didn’t suit the other ingredients in this dish. Or it could be just that I’m more used to the wholly Chinese take on fried rice. Lollipop Chicken literally resembled a lollipop. The meat was concentrated at one end of the bone, and sort of hard to chew. Although it is touted as one of the most popular items on the menu, I believe that most of the spotlight is owed to the accompanying sauce. It’s sweet and spicy, and the consistency is like that of mayo. My friend asked the waitress what the recipe for the sauce was, but the waitress smugly replied that it was a secret. One of the most intriguing mysteries of life, that’s what it is. :^) What’s admirable to me is that the food we ate didn’t strictly resemble Chinese nor Indian, but was actually both. Tangra Masala is a restaurant that boldly goes all out in its execution of Chinese-Indian fusion food. All in all, the food was alright, and I had what I felt was a most thoughtful eating experience.

Went here for dinner with my family. The experience was very bad. The food was slimey. The chicken tangra masala fried rice was out right bad. The chicken was stinking in the rice. The service was atrocious. The server actually dropped the white rice on the table and was looking at us as if he expected us to pick it up and eat it. After a couple of awkward seconds of us staring at him, he picked up the fallen rice with one of our place settings and disappeared. No consideration on replacing the rice or the place settings. We had to literally ask for the rice and the place setting to be replaced after a good 10 minutes. To top this off they charged us 18% gratuity. When we bought this to the attention of the owners they were very arrogant. I feel compelled to pass on the advice they gave me: «you have a choice to eat anywhere». If you are reading this then please choose wisely this place has bad food, bad service and disrespectful owners. I will take my business else where every time, never going back here again.

Had chicken lollipop, tangra masala fried rice and hakka noodles. It was yum spicy and very tasty. The dip they give with chicken lollipop is very yum. One thing that I hate is to carry cash as they accept only cash.

I went here with family on a Saturday night. It was packed. The restaurant itself is spacious, clean, and family friendly. The soup and chicken lollipops were good I would definitely recommend them. However, the entrees are all just fried meat tossed in one of their four pre-prepared sauces. They were horrible with a very thick gravy like texture. The fried rice with meat had no flavor and seemed like they didn’t even add salt. The haka noodles were decent, probably the only entrée item I would recommend. Over all I would not recommend this place and will not be a return customer.

I had the wantons which was alright but the sweet and sour chicken was like having my desert along with my main course. Its was toooooooo sweet. The staff there are good and the 3 star is only for the exceptional service received.

Best choice for Indian Chinese food I’ve been to in the City. The food is brilliant although the novelty of the tangra masala gravy has now worn off for me. Get the Paneer /Chicken Chili dry and if you like it spicy make sure to ask them to make it extra spicy ! Make sure to take Cash with you as its cash only … The nearest ATMs are about a 5 minute walk on Queens Blvd

Hidden gem in the heart of queens. I absolutely love this place and have been coming here since I was a little girl! My order is always the same– Lollipop chicken, chicken monchow soup, Manchurian chicken with gravy and tangra masala chicken fried rice. yum yum yum! The staff here used to be terrible. But, the staff now is amazing. The kind young waitress makes the experience even better, recognizes my mother & I each and every time, jokes around and makes the visit all the better!

Excellent restaurant for indo-chinese food in Queens. They have a great variety of flavors with some being very spicy. The soups are also a trademark of their place, including the lollipop chicken. The Manchurian fried rice is a must have. They do only take cash unfortunately and are quite pricey. But definitely worth the amount and they’re usually very quick with making the food. The downside would have to be the amount of salt used, especially to make their gravy dishes. I usually spend a lot of time just gulping down water.

Horrible dirty place. The waitress ruined it further. We ordered manchurian fried rice and she got just veg fried rice. When asked her about it she said its manchurian flavored rice. Wth! She touched the food to show manchurian seasoning. When we frowned she won’t refill water or get us our check or pack the rest of food as to-go. They charge 18% gratuity!!! Beware! I wouldn’t go back to this location. Go to the other one much better!

I love this place. The BEST lollipop chicken I’ve ever had. And the sauce, it’s incredible. The food is fast and consistent. The service is great. The servers are patient and nice. Its a small place, with big flavored food. Get: masala fries, lollipop chicken, chicken pakora, hot and sour soup, general taos chicken, chili chicken, all the chow mein(its lomein), Manchurian beef or chicken, I honestly can go on. Everything is delicious.

At first we were a bit hesitant to go in here because there was no one eating anything and the place looked a bit dingy and dark. However, usually the places that look the sketchiest have the most authentic food. In this case, it was true. I’ve never had indo-chinese food and it was a really interesting fusion. There was the spice from indian food and the homecooked flavors in chinese cuisine(I am chinese). I had the manchurian chicken curry and it was like asian gravy with chicken and fresh fragrant rice. I love curry because it warms my heart. This one really did with the kick in flavor. The staff were super nice and attentive. I am actually craving to have some more of this again soon! Cash only place.

How does this place has a 3.5 star rating boggles my mind. Tanner Masala is sooooooo good! Indo-Chinese restaurant with amazing good and great service. I always order the same exact thing: Shrimp Manchurian Fried Rice, Chili Chicken, and Lollipop Chicken. You’ll always wake up the next morning craving it. I haven’t tried anything else on the menu but a soup or two, but if you order one of the three things I mentioned, you’ll wish more indochinese places existed. 5 stars!

If you want Indo-Chinese(Indian style Chinese food), this is the place to go. However, while it fulfills the basic requirements of Indo-Chinese, the food still left me wanting. I went twice; the first time with a friend who doesn’t eat spicy food. Warning, never go to an Indian restaurant with a friend who doesn’t eat spicy food. You will miss out on the most important flavors. We got the chili paneer and gobi manchurian. Both were fine. Went again with some people who did eat spicy food, but it still was not fantastic. Everything just seemed a little bland. We ordered the chili paneer, singapore noodles, fried rice and this ginger chicken dish(I can’t remember the exact name). It was all fine…, but the flavors seemed to fade into the background. I did really like the chili paneer though. As a side note; the service is great and fast.

Not many wud know of this place, but when it comes to Indian style Chinese, they do it the best. A small rather dingy looking place(from exterior), Tangra has some strong flavors to deliver. Their dumplings were soft and nicely filled. The Tangra Masala Chowmien was a bit greasy but the Manchurian Gravy was flavorful. Definitely a nice place to savour Desi Chinese.

Interesting place that tries to mix different regions together. Ive only been here once and had the Manchurian shrimp… which was ok. Nothing too great, but I could taste the fresh cilantro and the shrimp seemed fresh. The restaurant is located on a busy street so parking is difficult. The place itself is a little divey so probably better as takeout.

I ordered take-out at 7PM during Christmas Day. I ordered the lollipop chicken & Manchurian chicken(with gravy), the wait was 18 minutes long. This establishment was barely lit, it was so dim I wasn’t sure it was open until I peeked into its kitchen to see workers cooking! I am not a fan of poorly lit & super cramp areas, this place was definitely tough to navigate around(from the cash-registar to front door)! I was not impressed by the lollipop chicken, everything was toned down– where was the Indian spices & fiery? Even the spicy mayo(dipping sauce for chicken) was blah, I had to add extra chili oil. The chicken was moist, not dry at all though. The Manchurian chicken was so disappointing, it appeared to be popcorn chicken(breaded & bite-size chicken) that was mixed together was brown sauce. The brown sauce/gravy was spicy though, though everything else about the dish was disappointing. The portion of the entrée was small too! **I’ve included a picture showing just how small the entrée was for the price** Overall, this place was disappointing. The food is overpriced for the amount/portion that is given. It was my first time here & I do not plan on returning!
