Perfect little park for a good trail run. There’s actually a lot of trails and space here but the scenery is really something else. Just watch out for the swamp area!

To Nina B’s point, there’s absolutely nothing not to love about Emerald Isle Woods Park. Ho-ly crap. No pun intended. Emerald Isle has, hands down, the nicest park bathrooms I’ve ever seen in my life. If the bathrooms at Yosemite are at the appalling end of the park bathroom spectrum, the bathrooms at Emerald Isle Woods Park are squeaky clean and clear on the other side of the scale. Spotless, pleasantly scented, and well stocked to boot. The park itself has a cute boardwalk, multiple grills, a floating dock, NC bird trail, pier, and picnic pavilion to meet all of your leisure needs. Next time I’m in town, maybe I’ll bring the dog.

Richie K. and I stopped here for a quick hike and some photo ops on the way to The Point one sunny Sunday when I was desperate for some sand. The park is really easy to find – there’s a big sign and a bright white fence, so it’s hard to miss. When you enter, there are a few parking opportunities(and some trail heads) closer to Coast Guard Rd, but if you keep going, you’ll come to a nice, big parking lot. And they have handicapped parking even farther in. Just after the handicapped lot is a bathroom. I have never been in such a nice park bathroom before. It was clean and had plenty of TP, soap, and paper towels. It even smelled fresh! The park is not big, but it’s nice and quiet in there. The trails are marked(they’re nice and worn and there are color-coded arrows on the trees so you can’t accidentally stray). Plus, some of it is a boardwalk that takes you over swampy areas and to/out on the water. Difficulty: easy – I did it in sandals, but got a little muddy. It’s clear from the trails, boards, bathrooms, and parking lots that this park is very loved. Plus, it’s also dog– and bike-friendly.
