A ideal little shopping center to buy gifts and souvenirs and grab a bite to eat.

We go to Emerald Isle twice a year to get away from the chaos, traffic, and political NOISE of the Nation’s Capital. This little shopping center is always a must. Our favorites are: Rucker John’s Restaurant(don’t miss the Blackjack steak, the beer-battered shrimp, and the glazed croissant rolls), and Sunkissed Memories for terrific shopping. Elly’s also has the best fudge we’ve tasted anywhere!

Emerald Plantation is a little mall that is mostly filled with small gift shops for tourists to rummage around. There’s also a small movie theatre here. However, the best part of it all is the big pond in the back(outside). There’s nothing in there but turtles. There’s a vending machine that you can purchase some dry kernels of some sort and throw them to the turtles. It’s so cute to see the turtles compete for the kernels. When the kernels land in the water, the minnows rush to them and suck on them until a turtle gobbles them up. The cutest of them all are the baby turtles, seeing them getting all excited for a kernel. But, damn, these pigeons/gulls swooping down for the kernels. *shoo, shoo*
