I just got the usual routine exam done for contact lenses and eyeglasses prescriptions, and I simply declare Dr. Fishkin the best. It’s a whole new experience compared to the so called ‘eye doctors’ I’ve been going to at eyeglasses stores. I wish I’d have known the differences between the Ophthalmologist and Optometrist sooner.
Just listing out few differences based on my experiences:
Dr. Fishkin (Ophthalmologist):
— the exam was covered by medical insurance (paid copay), so I still have the full vsp vision insurance to spend on contacts or eyeglasses.
— No fitting fee or extra fees for eyeglasses prescription
— VERY Impressive latest technologies especially using the imaging system — a picture is worth a thousand words, and I got to see and learn many things about my eyes, eyelids, eyebrows, and etc.
— Lastly and most important, his knowledge and how he communicates to convey the knowledge — very intelligent and considerate.
The usual eyeglasses stores (Optometrists):
— covered by VSP vision insurance, not much left after contact lenses exam fee, fitting fee, extra for eyeglasses prescription (I’ve always suspected the last two fees are scam)
— Turns into used car salesman trying to get you to buy their stuff, sometime holding the prescriptions a hostage.
— Not much info given on your eye conditions (much less any imaging)
— Lastly, I blame optometrists on Johnson & Johnson blocking Costco’s discount on Acuvue.

First visit. I was treated like I was a long time patient. Great personalities from Cyntia to Dr. Fishkin. Very sophisticated equipment. The eye exam was complete.

I woke up with a nasty case of cellulitis in my left eye, so I called and left a message on Dr. Fishkin’s message center hours before the offices opened, asking if I could come in the same day. Dr. Fishkin called me right back and told me to come before his offices opened so that he could treat me.
This is the type of personal care and attention that is woefully lacking in the medical profession! Dr. Fishkin is no only an expertly knowledgeable ophthalmologist, he genuinely cares about his patients’ well-​being.
Dr. Fishkin’s staff are equally considerate and professional.

Great eye doctor — super friendly staff, Dr. Fishkin is nice and very knowledgable, the place is really clean, and it’s fast.

He is fantastic, real nice guy, very smart. sent my husband there as well. loved him. highly recommended.

Although Dr. Fishkin is very pleasant, he couldn’t seem to get my contacts correct. After the initial visit, I had to go back twice because the contacts weren’t right. Each time he gave me something else to try. I was going to go back a third time because they still weren’t right when I got a call from his office asking me for payment for the two «appointments». Apparently I was getting charged $ 80 per «try». Would have been nice to know that upfront. No one ever asked me for payment when I came in those 2 times. Of course I thought I wasn’t being charged because he never got it right from the beginning. I came in because I was having trouble with my vision and the contacts that I was wearing and ultimately I walked out with the same exact prescription/​contacts, just less $ 280. My family and I no longer go to Dr. Fishkin
