Amazing food market in Emeryville! Great place to catch up with friends and family! The customer service is awesome too. I got the White Bird and it was the perfect meal for a cold day. The broth was thick with a rich blend of different flavors. Definitely a must! Go check it out of you are a ramen-enthusiast like myself!

I got the Spicy Ramen from this place. I give 3 stars because the broth lacks a lot of flavor. The extra chashu also lacks flavor. Most of it just tastes salty with a hint of garlic and sesame. It’s good, but not amazing. Unfortunately, if you’re in the area, this is one of the few ramen places around.

I have lived in L.A. for 8 years before working in Emeryville so my tase buds have been spoiled by all the heavenly ramen in Little Tokyo. This is my first time coming to Shiba Ramen, and I got the White Bird. For about $ 13(tax included) you get a rather small bowl of ramen with only ONE slice of chasiu.(I have never been able to finish any bowl of ramen by myself before but I finished the White Bird so the portion here is kinda small). The broth was a little too greasy and the bamboo shoots were way too salty. The two things I like the most about the ramen are the soft boiled egg and super thin slices of pepper. Place to go when I’m craving Ramen? Maybe _(:」)_

Trying the white bird for the first time… I’m not a expert on ramen broth but the broth here is pretty damned good if you ask me! The noodles are nicely cooked as well. Order was ready in only 2 – 3 minutes. I expected a little more of a salty«kick» with the soft-boiled egg and the pork chashu was a little chewy. Other then that, I’d come back to this place next time I’m in the area.

Pretty decent place with potential to be great. The service is friendly and there is a menu with more descriptions by the cash register. They are very limited on the broths they had today so I got the soy milk ramen. It was fast and it wasn’t as cold as the other Unilocalers, but flavor wise, it didn’t live up to the hype. I didn’t taste much besides the green onion and nothing was memorable about the ramen. The noodle was chewy and was decent, just wish the both was better. The toppings for the soup like the squash and such were cold :(The egg was warmer than the other reviews, whew. I also had the pork chasu rice ball. The pork was tasty and the rice was good. The presentation could’ve been a bit cleaner because it just looked like the seaweed was slapped on randomly with bits and pieces sticking out off of the triangle. There is so much potent to be had at this ramen place. It’s a pity they didn’t have all the ramen both available to try today and it doesn’t look like they have been having consistency. I’m rooting for you Shiba Ramen!

What a wonderful addition to the revamped Emeryville Public Market. Overall, a solid ramen shop who are still figuring out the kinks and workings of a restaurant. I’ve ordered the butter corn ramen twice — a pad of butter in their clear broth(flavorful even in itself) paired with bamboo shoots, corn, sprouts, egg, and chasu. Even if you don’t get the extra toppings, this bowl by itself will satisfy. Price point is good for the product that is provided. My main complaint is the temperature of the broth. It was between higher than room temperature to higher than warm coffee temperature. After a few slurps, the entire bowl becomes lukewarm. The bowl of ramen would be much more delicious if the broth was hotter/more steaming hot because it would harmonize all the flavors of the bowl better, and reheat the room temperature ingredients. Warm the bowl first? keep the ingredients at room temperature? I’m not sure what would help but as a customer, i would prefer a hot bowl of ramen, not lukewarm.

Mediocre ramen with not much meat to their broth. They were out of the spicy ramen as well. The broth was overly milky, almost to the point where you couldn’t quite taste the chicken. There were a few pieces of chashu hastily thrown in the bowl. The egg appeared to be sous-vide or something similar, and was pretty good. I gotta take this place to task though because they have a vegan option but no vegetarian option. My girlfriend is vegetarian, so I’m definitely more aware of these things now. This option, rather than use a veggie broth, was some sort of concoction of soy milk and broth(?). It tasted salty and mediocre, with not many vegetables inside. I don’t quite understand the idea behind this. If you’re trying to make something vegetarian/vegan, just use tons of good vegetables and flavors with that. VEGGIESTASTEGOODYOUDON’T NEEDTOUSESOY. Service was fine, a little slow. Hopefully this place can fix some of these issues, as it’s a new place.

A pretty solid ramen stand and welcome addition to the Public Market in Emeryville! Although they’re still working things out I enjoyed my food here and want to come back to try the other ramen options. I had a spicy ramen bowl(11) with an extra piece of chashu(1.50). It took about 5 – 10 minutes to prepare. The presentation was nice, with the boiled egg, a few strands of red pepper for décor, and green onions sprinkled around the side. I usually can’t handle spice but they put just the right amount for a mild taste and a nice red soup color. The broth was savory and the noodles were well cooked. The ground pork was also good and the chashu was grilled and added nice flavor. I pretty much devoured everything minus a bit of soup– and all the ingredients worked well with each other to make a satisfactory bowl of ramen. The highlight was the egg yolk– it had an almost crystalline texture and was slightly chilled and pretty much the best egg I’ve had in ramen. I recommend coming earlier as around 1 they already ran out of 2 options.

Took a chance and tried the soy milk ramen($ 9.5). I like soy milk, especially in hot pot broths, so maybe the ramen version was going to be similar. Well sort of. The broth was so thick, it was essentially a sauce. I put down the spoon after the first bite because I wasn’t going to need it. The flavor of this vegetarian broth was definitely unique(as in I’ve never tasted it before) but I think it need a bit more salt or some kind of umami. Since this ramen was veggies only, I added chasu for $ 1.5. It was one thick slice of fatty pork, and I think that was the best part. Value obviously not there, but I did enjoy the flavor and fattiness of the pork. My egg was fine, albeit cold in the center. Noodles were al dente and pretty good for the most part. So why only measly 3 stars? It was a very mediocre bowl of ramen. The kobocha squash was underdone. All I really tasted were green onions, of which I had an abundance. The soy milk broth made a really heavy sauce, and I barely finished the last bit because of the heaviness in my throat. I got to taste the bf’s spicy ramen, and that had a lot more flavor, though he said it was pretty heavy as well. I’m not sure if they intended to make such a thick broth, but I don’t think I’m a fan of that consistency. We did start with the Shiba wings, and those were amazing. The price was almost ludicrous if you think about it. 5 chicken wings for $ 6.5… how cheap are wings?! Even for $ 5, at a dollar a piece, I would still be outraged… BUT they taste really really good. I recommend trying these once if you haven’t, but I’m sure the price point will also make you hesitate before ordering a second time. Strongly seasoned(but not overly salty) and perfectly, lightly crisp. I love that they aren’t too fried. Delicious with the Japanese beer, but(yowza!) $ 6 a can. I guess they are imported. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the ramen. I figured they may still be working out some kinks, but in terms of service and wait time, it wasn’t bad at all. I just can’t tell if their ramen is made in their distinct style, or it was just that batch.

This update is mostly for the sides: Pork gyoza– Pretty darn good! Shiba takes the time to pan fry them so each dumpling comes out with a delightful light, crispy char on the bottom. Skin is nice and thin, the pork and onion filling is properly flavorful, but not too salty. this way you can enjoy it with their house made tare sauce. Price point however is definitely on the steep side. For $ 3.50, you only get 4 dumplings– and these are somewhat small in size. Not bad if you want a warm snack but if you don’t mind the temperature, I would rather recommend getting the… Pork rice ball– At $ 2.50, these balls(which are actually triangles lol) are a much better deal, and will fill you up decently if you don’t want a full on bowl of ramen. Though the seaweed wrapper is not super eye-pleasingly wrapped around the packed sushi rice, the taste of the super soft pork is spot on. Definitely gonna get these in the future if I’m in want of a savory snack/small lunch. Side note: It seems that Shiba is slowly but surely working towards getting comfortable with handling larger crowds. The lunch traffic today was pretty considerable, but with their larger staff, I think they’re doing alright in terms of making sure people get their food as quickly as possible. Given the nature of the ramen preparation, I don’t think it’ll be possible for them to be faster than some of the other food stands in PMart that pretty much have their food premade, but I think it’s about the same wait time as a if you were getting something from one of the popular food truck so I can’t complain XD lol

EPIC fail. You have to actually serve ramen. This place wasted the good press they received by NOT being ready. I was excited to try them before the holidays. They’re open according to the site but when I arrive I’m told they only doing dinner. Strike 1 I’m back today after checking their website which says the close for lunch at 2:30. I roll up2:14. Closed for dinner service. Huh? Strike 2 Then it’s we ran out of food. The line was long. Good problem but isn’t the solution to have food to sell? Strike 3 At this point their ramen would have to be heaven kissed to be worth the aggravation. Those who read me regularly know it takes a lot for me to rant. This is a rant. If the customer service is this bad hey you don’t want the food

My coworkers and I were desperately anticipating adding something awesome into our lunch restaurant rotation in Emeryville. So, we gave Shiba Ramen a try. My officemate ordered the Clear ramen and I had the Butter Corn(which is Clear plus butter plus corn). The first problem is that the broth was room temperature. I’m not even a huge fan of boiling hot broth, but what I was served was way too cold. Next, the small pieces of pork in my ramen were super fatty. I didn’t even eat 60% of it because it was just all fat. The broth wasn’t bad tasting, but the noodles seemed low quality or undercooked maybe. The other slight issue I have is that they’re not serving wings at lunch. That was rather strange. Maybe they take too long to prepare for the lunch crowd? I don’t know. The ramen at Spoon(the Korean restaurant next to Berkeley bowl) is much, much better than Shiba and it’s not even a ramen shop. So, I suppose I’ll stick with Spoon for my Emeryville Ramen fix even though it’s twice as far as way, and takes a bit longer to order because it’s a sitdown restaurant.

No joke, milk ramen tasted like marrow broth. Sooooooo rich and soooooo flavorful. Their chasu pork is on point and their soft boiled egg just melts into the broth perfectly. The fact that the milk ramen is that good makes up for the fact that they only have one copy of a menu for a huge line of folks to understand what is on their menu. On the night I went, they had spicy, milk and soy. Huh??? What are those flavors??? Not until I saw their one copy of three menu that I understood what the heck each one was. I also ordered their shiso wings — really hot and fresh and seasoned well. Downside is that the ramen and wings come out at different times, makes sense since they fry it fresh. I couldn’t enjoy both my wings and ramen together because they were ready at different times. Clearly they are still trying to figure it all out. My guess is that with their huge lines now, they are going to get it soon!

Summary: definitely better than Ramen Shop, but not as good as Orenchi, Yamadaya, Yokohama Iekei. Spicy Ramen $ 11: Clear Ramen $ 10: Egg: — it was cold inside Chashu(pork): — kind of mediocre. They can do much better to be compared with other joints. Gyoza $ 3.5: — good quality, way too skimpy quantity. Icecream $ 4 —, definitely not worth it. I would get it again if it’s like $ 2. I understand, perhaps Monaka shell isn’t that cheap to make because not that many people like it, but come on, $ 4 for that shit? Being a native of Tokyo Japan, I’m also tough on ramen joints. Having said that, I liked Shiba Ramen in general. It maybe the best in the east bay so far, sadly, because other ramen joints in this side of the bay are sucking, including the super-expensive Ramen Shop. We asked«Can we ask for hard noodle?» — this is a common request in Japan because some people really hate soggy noodles. The dude says«No, we can’t really do that — we measure the time so»… Ok, so your staffs can’t make 4 minutes measurements to 3 minutes. Ok, that’s fine, maybe it is really difficult for some people, sure. Eggs were cold inside — sure, maybe they just make a batch and keep them in the fridge until they get popped into the ramen bowls, but they should keep them more to the room temperature to avoid this. Nobody is going to get sick and die from half-boiled eggs if they were freshly made on the same day. Chashu was a big disappoint. They look good in photos. However they were not juicy, sort of tasteless. Maybe they need to grill outside the meat before slow cooking? I’ve made Chashu, it’s not that hard, but theirs tasted like they boiled the pork too much or something. Bland. The menu is confusing and I wish they printed out their menu so that we can just look at the descriptions. We tried Spicy and Clear that day because Miso and the other flavor we wanted to try were not being served. Having listed all the harsh comments here, I hear that they are willing to accept people’s feedbacks. So here comes four stars for you guys. I’ll come back again to see if things were improved or not…

Tonight my boy and I tried Shiba. Seems they close at 7pm, so good thing we decided to get here before then. There was a pretty good line to place our order, but it went by quickly. We ordered the spicy ramen and a clear ramen, with a side of Gyoza. First off, the Public Market where it’s located has been going through some big changes. Many of the old restaurants are gone, with new ones popping into place. Noticed Koja Kitchen will be arriving soon, but there are several empty spots. Second, it’s really cold in there, so bring a jacket. As for food, Shiba Ramen had really good broth, with plenty of flavor. Only bad thing was the egg was cold(like right outta the fridge) and could have been cooked a little less. Gyoza was good and it had a nice thin skin. Ramen was cooked just right. Service was fine, but it did take 20 minutes to get our food. They were good at letting us know the wait time and the Gyoza came out before than, so that helped hold back the hungries. Will definitely come back, since I know it takes time to get all the kinks out. Great start for Shiba Ramen! Hoping to bring them up a star, if they can get the ramen out a bit faster and make sure there aren’t any fridge cold foods jumping out at us.

A new Hidden Gem in the Emeryville Public Market Serving up Delicious bowls of ramen. Shiba Ramen will be my Go to ramen spot when I’m in the east bay. 1. Design and décor of this place is beautifully done. Very welcoming and inviting. The tile and counter are very unique in it’s own way. Kudos! 2. Ordering is simple, Get in line, Order your preferred bowl, sit and wait till you number is called. Took less than 10 minutes to receive my steaming bowl or ramen. Lots of seating and from the looks of it, they are the popular place to eat at. 3. The food. Tried both the clear and White bird. Both so delicious in their own way. The broth is very clean and warming to your belly. Not overly seasoned and salty. Very clean. The noodles are perfectly done. Chewy and has a nice texture when you bite and slurp. The condiments are nicely done as well. Fine diced of green onion, Soft cooked egg, Bamboo Shoots, Chasu. You can ask for additional condiments for $ 1.50. Average bowl is about $ 12 so with a drink and extras, you’re still under a $ 20 tab. It is a generous bowl of ramen, they do not skim on noodles or broth. I was very impressed on the quality, The flavor and presentation. Great Job Shiba Ramen! Dessert. The Shiba Sceam. OMG they were good. the perfect amount to finish off a meal. Please order one when you come here. Alongside the ramen and dessert, you can also order wings, local and Japanese beer. They are only open for a few hours. But the Shiba team will only continue to get better with service and quality. They already have it down, but there is always room for improvement. Come to Shiba Ramen for a delicious bowl or ramen, A glass/can of beer and some delicious wings. You wont be disappointed.

Freaking delicious vegetarian ramen. The veggie soy ramen is so tasty.(Note: it can be made vegan. Just ask for no egg and no butter.) The broth is creamy, substantial, and filling. Delicious noodles.(I couldn’t help thinking it tasted as though veggie ramen and corn chowder had a scrumptious baby.) The people are also very friendly. Food comes out as it is completed, so each person can eat their ramen while it’s hot. We got the«Shiba Scream» dessert — it’s an ice cream sandwich. At $ 4, pricey for the size. Perhaps at $ 2, I’d try it again. Emeryville needs more places like this. Faster, delicious, quality, affordable food. I’ll be back soon. I suggest you do the same before everyone catches wind of this joint. This place is going to get very busy — very quickly.

Get the ramen. It filled me up with a few noodles to spare. The shiba scream was nothing special. Miso ramen $ 12 = Al dente ramen, corn, bamboo, green onion, medium boiled egg, and ground pork) = Flavorful, a little thicker brother than I’m used to(so I didn’t drink as much), perfect chew to the noodles, slight sweetness from the corn, and a nice texture from the ground pork. CONS: Egg was more room temp than hot and my sister would prefer the soup hotter. Shiba scream with green tea ice cream $ 4 = Looks cute but literally tasted like ice cream in a standard cake cone. Note you can come back to the counter with your receipt post-ramen to pick up your ice cream. They are still in their soft opening stage so I can forgive the long wait(~15 minutes). We got there around 5:45p on a Monday and waited in a line of about 7 people — got our food around 6p. Around 6:45 they announced they weren’t taking more orders till 7:05p because the kitchen was so backed up. Pro tips — ask for chili oil on the side. Yay spice — the miso ramen takes longer to prepare than the white bird ramen

I maybe overly excited for this place, but I’ve been waiting for this place to open for months! At this moment, they only have Miso and Clear ramen, I ordered the miso. The noodles were really good, not too chewy. And you get quite a bit of toppings for the amount that you pay($ 11 + tax): bamboo shoots, corn, half cooked egg, bean sprouts, shredded carrots, and ground pork. The miso broth itself is thicker than I’m used to, but it has a lot of flavor. It has just a little bit of heat, just enough for flavor. I can’t wait to try the rest of their menu.
