The only thing I have to complain about is, I wish there was moooore! Some things are a little expensive, but thats to be expected with the cost of importing these wonderful things. I wish there was more selection and options. But I found so many little goodies anyway. As a child(US Caucasian/Hispanic descent,) other cultures fascinated me. The smells, foods and arts. This store smells like a traditional indian home. It brought back memories of curry chicken and spunky, brave women! My best friend is half indian afterall! Oh! Those spices and scents make my heart feel warm. I went on this trip hoping to find Henna cones for mendhi and found a few other goodies too. Bangles, tumeric powder, an assortment of yummy spices and bindis! I even got some of the regular American goodies like Arizona iced tea and gummy bears. :D The sales clerk was a very sweet and kind woman. I went in on a rainy evening and she was so very warm and helpful. I know I can go in again and be greeted with equal warmth. I hope to see the stock improve but as for now I’m so happy with this little indian store. God bless!

This is a good place in the valley to grab the essentials such as paneer, naan, and things. The prices are a tad high and the store is pretty small. I’m not sure of anywhere else nearby to buy bulk paneer.

Authentic Punjabi Parathas get served! Do I need to write more? Authentic and tasty chicken tikka(dry), tandoori chicken, tawa roti, shahi paneer and paneer tikka masala is on the menu… it’s like a mini Punjab. Once you taste their food you forget that there are other Indian restaurants in Philly!

Late review, but I have to say something about the places I go to the most for meals around uni city! The place is very well hidden, I don’t think many people know where it is. The front of Rice & Spice is a small grocery store, but they have a kitchen behind with about 8 tables(?). You can eat there or takeaway, and it takes quite a while for food to be served. The TV is also perpetually on showing Indian movies(pretty recent ones too). Not the best ambiance, and the lights flicker, and somehow, I love the place. The food here is not only good, but the portions are huge. I know some people who takeaway the briyani and split it into 2 portions. They have vegetarian, chicken and mutton. You could finish it all in a sitting, but you’d be stuffed. It’s very cheap then, considering it’s only 6 – 7 bucks(the huge half portion, but they have full portions too). Other dishes are cheap too, except taking away curry, which I find expensive(7 or 8 bucks for a small container). The Chai is also super good, I used to drink it almost every other day, and it’s only 1 buck. Yum. Some of my friends also like to help me pick the snacks they say they ate as kids. They were pleasantly surprised by the grocery section as well when they first found the place.

This place has made me a capable cook of Indian cuisine and livened up my vegetarian diet considerably. They have a great spice section, snack section and freezer section. In the spice section, you can purchase jars of premixed Indian curries to make any vegetable amazing! In the snack section, they have a big selection of bags of interesting Indian crunchies. A couple tablespoons of these crunchies will brighten up your veggie wraps considerably. And, in the freezer section, I have found frozen samosas and indian flavored veggie burgers that have saved my life for more than one dinner with no time to cook. They have good prices throughout(better than a health food store) and good selection on basmati rice, legumes and more. I buy their canned coconut milk and juices, too. The owners are nice and helpful. I understand that they will be opening an Indian grocery store in Allentown soon.

Rice and Spice is a great source for vegetarians looking for new meal alternatives in the Lehigh Valley. They have Nan and Pav Bhaji which are easy to make. Open the package into a bowl and microwave. For a vegetarian sick of the same menu indoors or out, Rice and Spice supplies novice and difficult meal ideas. They also have cigarettes, candy, pre-made frozen food, grains, snacks, etc. Friendly, helpful staff and independent establishment worth supporting.

Everything I know about Indian food I learned from«Bend It Like Beckham». Stumbled upon Rice & Spice, an Indian grocery store, when out visiting nearby Mas Café(a Unilocal find) and being of the curious sort decided to take a look. What a find!(At least if you like to make Indian food.) They have all manner of spices, grains, and seasonings commonly used in Indian food as well as a lot of things from the Priya and Deep brands. They’ve also got some pre-made frozen Indian dinners as well as fresh ingredients like curry leaves, peppers, ginger, etc. etc. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Looks like there might be a Bollywood movie rental in the back but I’m not sure. it was kind of blocked off but there were lots of DVDs against the wall.
