Refused to serve my sister alcohol because she isn’t **25**. Ridiculous and discriminatory.

Chubby’s is one of those out-of-the-way BBQ joints that’s worth the trip! I love their pulled pork platters, and they have delicious sauces. The meat is really the star of the show here, the sides don’t really impress, but the BBQ is so good they don’t really matter. The Unilocal coupon isn’t honored, be aware of that.

Awesome! Everything you expect from a bbq joint. Food was very good, waitress was entertaining BBQ sauces were unique and tasty(didn’t try the 911 sauce though) the chocolate butter cake with ice cream was amazing(to quote the waitress when asked about it «because there’s a s**t ton of butter in it) don’t let that scare you away. The place is well worth the stop.

Not bad bbq… and I’m from Texas. Decent BBQ isn’t easy to find in these parts. :) We shared a Ribs, Brisket and Pulled Pork combo and ordered a cornbread and cucumber salad on the side. The brisket and ribs were pretty tender, although some parts of the rib edges were a bit hard. The pork wasn’t bad but not as tender as it could be. Generally the meat was tender, but not super flavorful. Not a fan of the sauce though. It was too sweet/sour. The cornbread was just ok, but the cucumber salad was actually really tasty — perfect with the BBQ. I gave it 4 stars because even though it’s not as good as it is in Texas, I’d still go back if I were in the area. I’d like to try more items from the menu. The people at the counter are really nice so it’s an all around nice place to go for BBQ in the MD.

Down home place with linoleum tile floor and worn booths serving aggressively smokey barbecue with homemade sauces and real root beer. The half rack was ample as was the rare smoked beef sandwich but the ribs were oodles better than the tough beef. Three corvettes in the parking lot. Authentic.

Had the brisket and pork belly. I will be back for that pork belly! I thought it was a bit pricey, but we’ll worth it..

Chubby a is a nondescript spot off of route 15 that you’d normally just pass by(I did for a year). However, I would recommend you take the plunge and take a stop. When you go in, there are a lot of choices to choose from — from burnt ends to brisket, pulled pork to ribs, this place has it all. The meat is very fast and very tender — be sure to stop by and get some!

My bestie, husband and I stopped here on our way home from DC. We took a wrong turn so instead of going home the way we came(83 N) we ended up going a different way and we passed by this joint! It was worth stopping. Food was good, but they lost a star for service and attitude, which I will explain. The place is not be beautiful inside, with mis matched tables and dated décor. That’s fine, the food was great! We did not have high hopes because we had Franklin BBQ in Austin, Texas and no brisket has tasted good since ;) but we were wrong! My husband’s brisket was so tender he could cut it with his fork! He ordered a second half pound after he ate his first platter. I had the half rack of ribs platter which was good too. My friend ordered the pit beef, which I learned is like roast beef, and it was also fantastic, but she was disappointed they were out of the brisket burnt ends by the time we got there in the evening. All of the sides were very good as well. The macaroni and cheese was my favorite. Macaroni and cheese is something I order a lot at restaurants and this was some of the best I had. I also got cornbread which was sweet and cake-like, which is the way I like it, but I don’t think one square of cornbread constitutes an entire side on a platter or is worth 1.89. The service/attitude problems that I will now explain are something that bothered me, but not the other members of my party, so take it how you will. After reluctantly correcting as issue with our check, I attempted to use the 5% off coupon that is on this page. The server, who seemed to be a shift manager or equivalent, explained, without apology, that the owner wants nothing to do with Unilocal and that they have no idea how it got on there.(I don’t know either, but I’m certain Unilocal does not just add those without consulting the business) She also explained that they don’t use a computer to calculate checks, so they don’t know how to figure out the 5% off.(That’s REALLY silly. I could do it for you if you want.) I accepted this and moved on since it was only a few dollars, but it’s annoying to see a business be so rude about online review sites. Do you realize that this group of millennial DINKs only stopped at your restaurant and spent 65.00 because of Unilocal reviews, and that this sort of thing is the primary way some people decide where to spend their money? Despite my rant above, we will return, I just hope the owner buys a computer and reads these reviews so they understand where we are coming from.

Stopped by for dinner on April 12, 2016. Once I saw burnt ends on the menu, I had to order that and pulled pork as the two-meat combo platter. A little pricey at $ 24.99, but I thought the price would be worth it for the burnt ends. But the burnt ends were just chunks of roast beef, not the smoky, crunchy pieces of beef brisket I had the good fortune of devouring in KC. A huge disappointment compounded by an order of bland macaroni and cheese. I spent most of my time eating the pulled pork and mashed potatoes with gravy, which were decent. Thank goodness I ordered a beer to wash it all down and take a little bit of the edge off of my dismay over the meal.

Went all the way to Emmitsburg for a work meeting, but luckily I got to try this gem. True old school hole in the wall no frills BBQ. I opted for the ribs, and the portions were enormous. Really smoky flavor and tons of great sauces to try. The mac and cheese was money and I really like the greens. Not sure how often someone would be there by chance, but if your in the neighborhood grab a plate.

the main highlight of chubby’s is the pig butt picture station. you know those wooden boards with a cut-out to put your head in for a picture? it’s like that, but your face is positioned right on the pig’s butt. so that’s fun. the food is good. there’s draft root beer and six different types of barbecue sauces. chubby’s is a great little hole-in-the-wall place and i definitely recommend it if you happen to be road-tripping home from new jersey with a trailer attached to your jeep.

Chubbys is a solid bbq establishment. The good… sides were outstanding! I had baked beans and potato salad. Both were homemade everything you would expect. Beans had great flavor, plenty of meaty 79thbits and a little sweetness. The potato salad was beautiful! Had a bit of mustard and perfect potato size. It wasn’t mushy, overly spiced, and it was very fresh. The baby backs were tasty and smoked well, but not quite as tender as I might have liked. A solid effort, though. I also had burnt ends… they were good, but needed a little more burnt. Chubbys had 4 bbq sauces and a habanero mustard. All the sauces were good, but I was partial to the volcano! Spicy, but it didn’t linger. Solid effort.

I am a fan! Amazing service! Just all around on top of it! Fast, friendly knowledgeable and just a little wicked humor! Loved her! Amazing slaw! Fabulous. Husband and I woofed it down like we hadn’t eaten for weeks. Beef brisket was moist and flavorful and stacked high. Portions here are massive. We LOVE our fries and Chubbys were great but a trough full was a bit much. His pulled pork was tender, juicy fall off the bone deliciousness. Ohhhhhh and beer! Nice add, pleasantly surprised to realize they serve beer. I had the root beer on tap. It was smooth and yummy. Their sauces were as spunky as their server — tasty sweet spiciness. The sauce NOT the server ;)~ Price was a little high BUT this is quality BBQ. Ambiance was tired. Needs some elbow grease including the restrooms. It’s just an old tired building that needs a major refresh. However, staff and amazing food along with servers allows for a little oversight. We will be back.

Great BBQ! Huge portions of food and beverages(my wine was served in a Stella glass) and nice variety of beer on draft. The only reason it got four stars is they were out of some of the items we wanted(burnt ends and collards) Beef Brisket was our favorite of the meal. Pulled pork sandwich, fried pickles, and mash n gravy also excellent. The Mac n Cheese was disappointing for us but could just be our taste buds. Friendly service and awesome selection of sauces– we each had a different favorite one

Solid BBQ and one of the better options on the road between PA and VA. Atmosphere: It’s a BBQ place so the point don’t come here. Service: Very friendly staff helped navigate what was good and fresh that day. Food: Had the Burnt Ends, Slaw and Jalapeño Poppers. Burnt Ends were big, tender and tasty but missing the burnt — BBQ sauce was a good accompaniment. Slaw was a solid side with a decent blend of sweet/mayo with good texture. Jalapeño Poppers were solid but not a homemade delight. A solid 3 in the world of BBQ [Been to TX, KC, NC and Memphis] and worth the stop if you have a few minutes… skip the fast food and have some BBQ.

5 star beef brisket sandwich, 4 star ribs. Today, I decided to switch gears and went for the half-rack of ribs, instead of the smoked beef sandwich, and double baked beans. The ribs are excellent. The ribs have a nice smokey flavor, as evident by the pink hue in the meat, that these ribs are in fact smoked and not prepared by other questionable means. No portion control here! This has to be the largest half-rack order of ribs I’ve ever received(check out the pix)! I counted 10 or so bones of delicious smokey ribs and had to stop at bone 6 or 7 – too much food. You’ll definitely feel like you got your money’s worth here – unlike other«hogish» places in Frederick. I rode my bike up, so unfortunately, I cannot take leftovers home :-(The ribs are excellent here; however, their chopped beef sandwich reigns supreme! Chub’s baked beans are F’ing outstanding(see previous review) as always. You will not go wrong with the ribs – I’ll definitely order them again.

Wonderful waitress(Brenda) Great food Between 6 of us, we had burnt ends, brisket, fries with Parmesan and jalapeño dipping sauce, ribs and the best dessert ever — Gooey Butter Cake!
For two reasons, Chubby’s has been on our radar — 1) We drive right past it every time we head north to visit our daughter and; 2) Jane and Michael Stern’s Road Food has a listing for the place. When our daughter was growing up, we did several cross country road trips and never left home without a copy of «Road Food». There was no Unilocal then so when it came time for dinner, we would look through the book and if we were near one of their picks, we would stop in for dinner. That book never steered us wrong. All the places we tried were unforgettable in a good way. This past trip, we decided that it was long past time to give Chubby’s a try. It’s easy to see on Route 15. If you are heading north, there is a right turn lane that takes you directly to the place. Our first impression upon entering was that the place was divey. We were greeted by our server and welcomed to Chubby’s. He asked if we had been there before. We told him«no» but we passed it many times. Apparently, he hears that a lot. The Sterns waxed poetic about the ribs saying this(I quote from the book) «Smokemeister Tom Caulfield marinates and dry rubs ribs, cooking them low and slow until drippingly tender…» With such a description, I just had to order a half rack of baby back ribs. Each entrée comes with 2 sides. I chose collard greens plus mashed potatoes and gravy. The ribs come slathered with a tangy tomato-based bbq sauce. They are tender and meaty but not falling off the bone. The bbq smokiness comes through very clearly. These ribs are far better than any I have tried in the DC area. The collard greens were generously laced with bits of pulled pork. The mashed potatoes… well…weren’t «mashed». Rather, they were chunks of potato covered in a tasty brown gravy. As for the brisket(another quote from the book) «Even the barbecued brisket is excellent, albeit more Texan than southern.» My husband is a big fan of brisket so he ordered ½ pound of brisket. For his 2 sides he chose baked beans plus mac and cheese. When he first saw the brisket, he thought that it would be dry but he was pleasantly surprised as it was tender and juicy with good smoky flavoring. It comes without sauce so you choose one of the many sauces on the table. He sampled the tangy tomato based sauce as well as one that had mustard and vinegar and liked them both. He found the mac and cheese to be rather ordinary at first but as he ate it, he said that it grew on him. His baked beans had good flavoring with a touch of sweetness and a generous amount of pulled pork in them. Service was quite good. We were there on a Tuesday night between 5 p. m and 6 p.m. At first it was slow but gradually dine-in business picked up. The phone rang a lot while we were there so we figured that local residents were putting in take-out orders — and we were right as we noticed them coming in for their food. We each had soft drinks. Before the tip, dinner cost $ 33 + change. Chubby’s sells T-shirts that have rather funny writing on them. We found them good for a laugh… but…we wouldn’t want to wear any of them when we left the house LOL! So, if you are passing through Emmitsburg and are hungry plus like good bbq, do give Chubby’s a try!
