Best Pizza in the area! Ive been going here since I was a child!!!
Now whenever Im back in the area this is a must stop for me — when I can find them open. I hear the family has gone through several tragedies over the years.
Wish them the best! And hope I can catch them open once again!
Also, a note for Stavros Pizza, if possible, when you are closed during normal business hours, please leave message on your answering machine. I now out of town, I drove all the way into Emmitsburg and saw the closed sign on your door. Hope to see you soon!

Was sorry to learn this weekend that Stavros Pizza is closed, at least temporarily. The owner, Bev Koontz, died of a heart attack on Aug 5, 2015. There were paper signs on the doors indicating it was «closed until further notice.» Very sorry to hear of Bev’s passing. Stavros not only had excellent pizza, but was an institution around the Emmitsburg area. Many fond memories of going there.

Best Pizza in Maryland, their Stromboli is also fantastic! If you like a lot of cheese on your pizza you will not be disappointed! The Staff is very friendly.

The pizza was pretty good for the price, the cheese generous, and it was clean. The staff was friendly.

This place is awful from the ground up. Stopped in to get a calzone and they messed up the order. When I asked the girl about it she said they could make a new order but I would have to pay again. I hadn’t even taken the order from the counter and I was going to have to pay for what they messed up?!? Never going back to this place. Enjoy your pizza if you go.

Best pizza in the Frederick area… and I’ve tried everywhere! Kings and Pasquale’s are garbage food compared to Stavros!

When it first opened back up after being closed for about a year from a fire in one of the apartments upstairs, this place was bombarded with people wanting food and I know from hearing comments from others, there was quite a wait on food. I don’t think they were staffed to handle such a response! However, they’ve proven that they are «back in the groove» and you get your money’s worth here!!!

Pizza is good.
Yet, I still prefer and recommend the pizza at Il Forno Pizza in Frederick.
The service here can be disappointing.
Last time we ate in with our family, we had more than an hour wait for our food. After calling two days later and speaking with the manager, I requested a discount on our next visit. I was not offered any compensation nor any better service.
Proceed with caution when visiting.

Now I do have to admit, I’m not a professional chef; no culinary arts degree or anything. I’m just a simple country boy who likes to eat, and today I did just that. It was a chilly November afternoon when I stopped in for a couple slices of pizza on the advice of my boss, Deb Spalding.
Prepared to plop down a five spot for two slices only to learn that Starvos does not do «slices» they do fresh deep dish pizzas. One of the follies many pizza parlors suffered from is morning-​prepared pizzas made in hours earlier that spend all day in some glass heater on the counter near a cash register. Once you order your pizza the pre-​made pie is simply re-​fired in the oven, essentially double heating the ingredients. This dramatically affects the taste. (just like reheated pizza for lunch is never as great as when it was fresh the night before.)
With Stavros, if one wants a couple of slices they only have to order the eight inch small personal deep pizza. And at a cost of $ 5.60 one receives more food and a better quality meal than two slices that have spent the better part of the day in a glass case.
The only slight downside to this is that the pizza being cooked from scratch may take 10 – 15 minutes longer, but the improved quality is more than worth it. So if one is suffering from a time constraint of a limited lunch break, it’s best to call ahead.
After ordering a small pizza and a Mountain Dew, ($ 1.60) I sat down in the classical pizza parlor decorated with red and white checkered table clothes. Bricked walls, red and white trim and a fireplace complete the décor.
At the north end of the restaurant there is a large counter and to the left of the counter in the true sense of 80’s pizza parlor nostalgia sits three arcade machines; one of which is Ms. Pac-​Man. (The original concept for Pac-​Man came from a Japanese video game designer who was influence while looking at a pizza with a single slice missing from it.)
Once my pizza arrived I went through the same initial thought I get from eating at an Uno’s, «it doesn’t look very big.» however by the time I was finished with this pizza I was full. This is the alleles heel of deep dish pizza – they are always bigger than they look.
And this pizza was definitely bigger than it looked with a relatively deep large puffy crust extending outward and upward safely containing all the thick cheese and tomato sauce underneath.
The sauce was standard fare and the cheese thick which leads back to what really made this pizza shine, the crust. I can’t get over the crust, crispy outside yet soft and chewy on the inside; it combines the texture of big a flat bread pizza with a hand tossed pizza.
After all was said and done the grand total for the meal came in at $ 7.65 including the tax; not as cheap maybe as two slices and a small soda but the amount of food and quality do make up for it. It is no wonder why Stavros is so popular in Emmitsburg.

Perhaps it was all the energy I burned up while snow tubing at Ski Liberty (hey don’t knock it… Tubers are the REAL bad asses of the winter mountains!), but I could have sworn to you that Stavros Pizza was the MOST DELICIOUS PIZZA EVER ON THE PLANET!
OK, it was most definitely the hunger.
The pizza was truly very good a touch greasier then I would have liked, but hey it’s pizza, it’s supposed to be fatty and oily, right?
The pizza came out bubbling hot, and the crust was crisp without being hard. The sauce was tangy and sweet but not obnoxiously so, and the cheese was stringy and cheesy (yeah, sorry, not a huge fan of cheese… don’t know what to say).
And after a day on the slopes (hey, the tubing hill is still technically a «slope»), it definitely hit the spot!
The only miss was the service. We were one of two tables, and we couldn’t get extra napkins, or drinks without going up to the counter… which was insanely slow. But it was still delicious and worth it.

One of my favorite pizza places. We seldom get to come up here, but when we do come up to Emmitsburg, this is a MUST stop.
They are truly unique & for those who gave Stavros a low rating — Pizza Hut awaits you down the street & maybe that’s more your style. Like the people who couldn’t wait to get to a Macdonald’s when I was sent to Germany in the Army years ago, instead of trying something GOOD!!!
The building where Stavros was, unfortunately had a fire last April, but they are planning to come back in the same location.

Go to Tommy’s Pizza in Gettysburg (its only about a 20 min drive up 15 N from Emmitsburg) if you want good pizza in the area. Stavros leaves much to be desired. Everytime I have gone the pizza has been undercooked (yes the cheese is melted but the crust has some raw spots) and the serice is terrible. Plus the basement setting is dank and dark and cold.

For service.
Couldn’t experience the food. Waited at the counter for 7 – 9 minutes (yes I clocked it!). Rang the bell twice — could hear the people around the counter in the back — no help.
They only came to the counter when one families fries were ready to be picked up — looked like they were pretty much done with their meal at that point. *shrug* could have been a to go order… who knows.
Either way we were on our way walking out by that time.
I’m a strong believer of customer service. You could have award winning world class food but it means nothing if your service sucks.

Pretty awesome Greek salad. Very fresh. Pizza is great, subs are great. Eat-​in or take-​out. Eat-​in is funny because you get to watch people.
Ms. Pac Man table game still works!

hadn’t had Stavros pizza for probably about 20 years, but it is still as good as i remember it. stavros used to have an outpost in frederick, which is long since closed and this is the first time i’ve been to the original emittsburg location. my brother-​in-​law from e-​burg said it was still real good. self service counter, no frills. empty at first, but gradually got more crowded. cheap, at least compared to san francisco prices — $ 14 for a 18″ pizza. smothered with cheese and toppings are under the cheese. real good, would definitely go back again!
