It was my 3rd time visiting the San Diego area and wanted to find a new way to experience Southern California. Being an east-coast girl, I really wanted to see the beauty and adventure such a far off place could bring– taking a challenging hike was exactly what I was looking to do. With CaliHikes, from the moment I met with John(owner and guide) I felt safe and assured he knew what was needed for our trek. He was well prepared, with useful facts, patience for my questions and needs, and a very savvy eye for photos I wanted to capture! I took the el Captain hike in San Diego, which is more difficult, but proved to be worth the challenge — especially when reaching the summit! Thank you so much John & team. I will be back and encourage others to experience the amazing time I had!

Being new to the area I wasnt sure what hikes were safe for my daughters and I. I really love to hike but I know its not safe to go alone anymore. My friend told me how much she loved John’s trail expertise and random facts along the way. He also brought enough water and snacks for us. Since then we have tried out 3 new trails with John, one in Orange County and two in San Diego. Cali Hikes is a great option for any mother who wants to hike and feel safe. But the coolest part is the professional photos he takes of me and my girls at the top of the trail! Haha, Mama Bragging rights! We will cherish them for years to come!

Visiting San Diego we wanted to hike but were not quite sure the best way to go about it. The conceriage at the Omni suggested Calihikes and we were very happy we took their advice. In our initial contact with John of Calihikes, he was able to chose a hike that was appropriate to our requested level of challenge and comfort. Loved the fact, that we just needed to roll out of bed, eat, and be met in the lobby. No preparation or equipment required by us. John gave some interesting facts about San Diego and the surrounding area as well as the trail. John was very personable and fun to hike with He was in tune with our hiking skills. John was very perceptive — putting my fear of snakes ahead of Brian’s desire to see one — haha. John was even able to accommodate my gluten intolerance with the snacks. Sure hope we are able to return to San Diego and do another trip with Calihikes — maybe even a night hike!

Awesome experience! I’m an an intermediate hiker– and found this service through a friend at home when I went to California on vacation. The landscape was beautiful, and the experience couldn’t be better!
