Frankly, the food did not impress me. I had a rice bowl — brown rice, veggies, chicken with sesame ginger sauce. The chicken was extremely dry. They say they slow cook it for at least 2 hours over a flame so the fat melts away and the marinade gets seared in. Well, I could not get any taste of the marinade and herbs they use on the bird. The rice was well cooked, the veggies(broccoli and carrots) were well steamed. The sauce was OK. But the dryness of the chicken was very challenging to digest. Once they have cooked it, they should simmer the chicken in a gravy. Then it would be delicious. The place was clean, and many customers were repeat customers. The girls behind the counter offered service with a smile. I had a sample of the white bean, kale, chicken soup — it was well cooked but flavorless. I don’t think I will visit again.Sorry.

I don’t know how I was able to live here in the North County area for 30 years and never come to Chicks! I’ve driven by it so many times and finally after an intense conversation with a friend, I stopped by and gave this place a shot for lunch. I was in between classes and stopped by to get some lunch to eat at while sitting on the beach. I took a look at their menu, and after reading through, I went with the very simple and easy chicken bowl. I had the choice of white, brown, or spanish rice to choose from. I got about two pieces placed into my bowl and it was cut and cubed up right in front of me. I got a nice serving of carrots and broccoli with my chicken bowl as well. Since I was talking to the gal behind the counter, I had mentioned that it was my first time, and she threw in some extra sides for me to try. I got some rice, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and also a sweet potato! I will totally be back and get more to eat the next time I am around in the area and needing lunch! I still can’t believe I let so much good food slip through my fingers for so many years!

This place is fantastic. We only discovered it three weeks ago and I just picked up chicken for the third time. Solid recommendation when you just need some good comfort food but still want to make healthy choices. Great chicken and sides. Go for one of the combos!

Have lunch here often and the chicken is just great! I usually have it with mashed potatoes and gravy with streamed carrots and broccoli– all very good! The vegetables are cooked perfect, never mushy. Also tried the Caesar salad and sweet potato and never disappointed. Their cornbread is to die for! Busy place around lunch but they have very fast service. Worth the wait. They often have free samples of soups etc. Will keep coming back!

So convenient and such a good deal! My husband and I eat primarily paleo. The rotisserie chicken packs such a fresh savory flavor and the roasted sweet potatoes are creamy and delicious. The customer service is so friendly too. Try it once and you’ll become a regular for sure!

Other then homemade this is the only place where I don’t mind getting chicken from. We usually get the whole chicken mashed potatoes coleslaw and salsa to go. The salsa has the right amount of spice to it to go along with chips. Service is friendly and quick and can’t ever remember the owner looking pissed off. Sometimes he’ll throw in a couple of bread rolls for free.

I absolutely love this place! I eat here at least twice a week. The two girls who work behind the counter are so pleasant. Customer service is top notch! One time I forgot my wallet and didn’t realize it until after I ordered. They still gave me my food and told me to come back and pay whenever I could. I don’t know of any businesses that would have done that. The rice bowls are amazing and come with your choice of sauce, the ginger sauce is much better than the teriyaki in my opinion. The spanish rice and the sweet potatoes are really good too. I usually call in my order and it’s ready for me when I get there, but even when I don’t the wait time is usually only a few minutes. If you’re looking for fast food that is actually healthy this is the place to go.

Been going here for bout 20 years off and on. Best bang for your buck! Burritos, while simple are tasty and nutritious. Perfect for after workout session. Veggies are also good. 10x healthier than an Albertos type joint. Quick service, to-boot.

The chicken soup with white beans and veggies is the best around! The burritos and rice bowls are also amazing… but just go for the soup. You won’t regret it!

This is a simple, quick little place where you can order very delicious roast chicken and fixings.(as well as some other menu items.) The chickens are smallish but meaty, very tender and flavorful. The rice and coleslaw are good but the corn on the cob is not too good. It really needed some salt and butter. Service was very friendly. They wrap the chickens in foil but the sides come with plastic lids so bring your own containers if you want to avoid hot plastic. I bought the 1 ½ chicken family special which is not bad at all for $ 27.

I have a crazy addiction to the chicken breast caesar salad!!! Plus the chix bowl with the ginger and teriyaki sauces is so good too! Parking sucks because it’s located in a small shopping center, but the speedy service and yummy food makes up for it!

Place was dope. I ordered my food, they took my cash, & my food was done. Super fresh, hot, and delicious. What more can you ask for? Price for the bowl is 7.99, not bad, but for the price and fast service, i don’t mind coming back again. Continue the great fast service.

Delicious food. Friendly staff. Vegetarian options. The salad always crisp, the tomatoes bold and ripe, and the sweet potatoes plump and tasty. Been through a few times and always enjoyed the friendly staff and delicious food.

Neighborhood roasted chicken joint and the service is beyond friendly. The owner always nice to his customers, offers up free samples on occasion and the place has been here since the 1980’s. Fantastic, fresh, roasted chickens… period. Nothing else but sides and the sweet potatoes are the best in town. Great prices, always a good healthy meal. It doesn’t get any better than this for chicken.

The chicken here is by far the best«all natural» around. It is dry/moist…if that makes sense? It’s dry to the touch but moist and delicious in taste. I love Chicks for when I wanna eat«healthy». It’s my go-to for a quick but satisfying lunch. I often stop in for take home salads when I have guests coming and I want to wow them with«my» Chicken Caesar salad skills(don’t tell!) I’ve been coming here for years. I go back and forth between the Chicken Caesar and the rice bowl. The Caesar is a super filling salad with at least a quarter of chicken breast and I swear its sprinkled with crack… it’s super addictive. You try soooo hard to stop eating it because you’re full and then next thing ya know you’re licking the dressing off the styrofoam to-go plate. On healthy conscious days I get the rice bowl with brown rice, steamed broccoli and again, I’d guess there’s like a quarter chicken on it… it’s so yummy and VERY filling. The staff is friendly… they’ve all been here for years! My only gripe would be that I’ve watched the prices rise and the bowls/plate sizes shrink. It’s so good though that I usually don’t mind. Yeah, this place could really use an update… it has a very«cold» ambiance considering the warmness of the rotisserie chicken roasting in the window which looks so inviting. The pictures on the walls are crooked(drives me batty!) and the«décor» is decades old but hey, I’m here for the food. Oh yeah, try the soup! It’s chicken, white beans and kale. They usually give samples at lunch and the prices of soup are stellar. It’s reallllllly delicious and I keep meaning to get some to bring home and pretend I made it :)

Awesome service! They seem to genuinely appreciate your business… and each and every person working there was in a good mood, friendly, helpful and courteous. I got the Combo #1, which comes with the marinated chicken that made them famous and several sides. I absolutely LOVE the cornbread! It’s so good! The baked potato was great too. I wasn’t crazy about the baked beans. They tasted plain to me. All in all, you get plenty of food and variety on your plate. Love the service! There’s plenty of seating inside. If you’re in the mood for homemade style food from a much loved, local, mom-and-pop restaurant, eat here!

Lots of good reviews but my two experiences were disappointing. On my first visit I asked for dark meat in my burrito. Emotionless and unapologetically the kid behind the counter said that’s not possible. «They’re premade». Seriously? My friends were served first, and they liked their chicken, so I still had high hopes. When my burrito was up the chicken inside was dry, so I asked the lady behind the counter for salsa. She looked annoyed, reached for the fridge and put my salsa on the counter. No words. Did I do something wrong? I thought the tortillas were flat and gummy, but I did enjoy the cole slaw. Then, on our way out we brought our trays toward the front. Lady behind the counter said simply«Trash is in the back.» A better answer might have been«Sure I’ll take those trays. Thank you.» To give Chick’s another chance I went back this week. This time I ordered the chicken sandwich. The guy taking my order said I could have dark meat on my sandwich. But when it came up, the woman tossed a breast down onto the bun and said I couldn’t because«those pieces have bones.» Chicken was better this time and the sandwich was fine, but not exactly what I wanted. Didn’t like the potato salad. Chick’s has been there a long time and I know lots of people swear by it. Maybe I just hit them on two off days. Clearly options are limited for those who prefer dark meat.
