I really like this place. I lived in Philadelphia for many years so I enjoy a good cheesesteak. And it is an added bonus to be able to get butterscotch krimpet TastyKakes. Also, it is very convenient to where I live. The owner is really a nice guy and he tries very hard to satisfy his customers. I think his business would improve if he had better signage and some advertising.

I’ve tried many of the finest Philly Cheesesteak options across San Diego County. Original Philly Cheesesteak does a fine job but in my opinion they aren’t the best out there. I have to say though that it is nice to have passable cheesesteak place along the El Camino corridor in New Encinitas. I got the Super Cheesesteak(meat, onions, cheese, peppers, mushrooms) but without the onions. It was fine and it satisfied the hankering. One of my two lunch buddies ordered the same thing I did, while the other got one of the Chicken cheesesteaks, which he was lukewarm about. There weren’t many others in the restaurant when we were there, which is probably due to their horrendous location. Original Philly Cheesesteak is totally invisible from El Camino Real, and their signage is also woefully inadequate. At least on the South face, they still have a banner, which is strange because they’ve been open for over a year. I didn’t look at their east façade, which faces Staples and Dollar Tree. Maybe they have a better sign there. I’m glad Originally Philly is there and look forward to more cheesesteaks. They have a good concept, the food is fine and they are a lot closer than San Marcos.

First off I want to say that the customer service was good and the people working there are very friendly however after ordering I began watching the perpetration of the food and noted something disturbing. A possible health code violation because the cooks are wearing jewelry on ungloved hands to make our food. This government website talks about the restrictions and standards for food preparation and restaurants. 410IAC7 – 21 Section 36 — Personnel Hygienic Practices All persons working in direct contact with food, food-contact surfaces, and food-packaging materials shall conform to good hygienic practices while on duty. The methods for maintaining good hygiene include, but are not limited to the following: Wearing no jewelry while preparing food. If hand jewelry cannot be removed or if approval is given by supervisory personnel for the wearing of a wedding band, it may be covered by an impermeable cover, such as a glove, that can be maintained in an intact, clean, and sanitary condition and that protects against contamination. Maintaining gloves in an intact, clean, and sanitary condition if they are used in direct contact with food. The gloves shall be made of an impermeable material. Wearing hair restraints, such as nets, hats, beard restraints, and clothing that covers body hair, which are designed and worn effectively to keep hair from contacting exposed food, clean food-contact equipment and utensils. I will unlikely be returning to this establishment.

Excellent food, and very friendly owners! Very good cheesesteaks, cooked well, all the toppings are excellent and top quality. They do the little things that count. Have come back here several times and I like the place a lot.

So what does a guy who doesn’t eat beef get at a Cheesesteak joint? A cheesesteak, but with chicken, aka«Just chicken cheese» Lunch on my own, and i was lured in by the promise of a cheap and tasty sandwich(their signs outside call out lunches for $ 5.50 and up). Well, it wasn’t exactly cheap — my chicken cheese was $ 6.70 and a tossed in an authentic Frank’s cherry soda on top, and with tip, i’m up to $ 10. But that chicken cheese was good. The soft bread was delicious, and fit the sandwich well, and the melted cheese on onions and chicken made for a tasty meal. It turns out that their signs for the cheap meal are IF you bring in a particular coupon that gets mailed out. I feel that’s a little deceptive. Boo. 4 stars for food, minus one star for advertising cheap lunches and it requiring a coupon for that rate. Sports TV keeps the crowd happy. This location must be tough for business — in the past years that i’ve been Unilocaling, it has been a Submarina and another sandwich shop. It suffers from not being street visible(while driving southbound, which is the only way to enter the complex i think). Hopefully this place will make a good name for itself, and draw some good business — it will have to compete with the Rubio’s and Pizzicato on the same building.

Good stuff but I expected a little more. The gentlemen working the cash register didn’t seem to be a Philadelphian so if I ordered my sandwich«cheese wit’ out» I am not sure he would have known what I meant. So I ordered their standard sandwich without onions and still got onions anyway. Hmmm. Luckily they had Tastykake Candykakes to get the onion taste out of my mouth. I wish the sandwich had more meat and a little less bread. I would return but definitely prefer Philly Frank’s to this establishment. Service was prompt and friendly.

I like the place, I just moved from the Philly area and this place is up to par. They use Amoroso Rolls and whiz. They also have tasty kakes. Aside from all that, what I would like to mention is I have eaten there twice and asked for grilled onions. What I got was more on the side of raw, and the amount of whiz I got was not quite enough. So if the guy running the place were to read this I would say use more cheese cause its called a cheese steak and grill those onions. Other than that, I have no problems. Its a pretty authentic Philly Cheese Steak

I expected much better after reading some of the reviews. Meat portion was small compared to our other 2 favorite spots. For that matter, very little onions and cheese. The bread actually overpowered the meat, tho it had decent flavor, it did seem on the dry side. Pickles by request, only 3 slices??? Other places have a pickle and pepper bar… and their pickles are delicious! Here just ok, but 3 slices??? And $ 2 for a small bag of chips? Come on, thats over 100% more than it should be! $ 2 for a medium drink? And we like crispy fries or onion rings, which are not offered here. Wish it could have been better. Hope they are able to stay in business at this rate. If this is original Philly Cheesesteak, then its been way over rated and over hyped imho.

Just not up to par. More cheese(whiz!) please. Not sure about the meat quality. Service was great though; and the guy was real nice. I’ll give them another shot in a month or so to see if they can convince me to give them another star.

One of the best Philly cheesesteaks I’ve ever had(the only way to make it better would be to add a little more beef).

First time visit took us back to Philly!!! The hoagie was the best one since I lived on the East coast. It was stuffed with meat and cheese and just the perfect dressing. Service was great, so personable and friendly. We will return many times with all of our East coast visitors.

My wife and I stopped by on our way to staples the other day. The food was good with large portions. I am a local boy that has never been to Philly, and I thought it was good. I was talking with another diner at the restaurant. He said he was from Philly and that it reminded him of home and the food was good! I had to take him at his word ;-) Good food and worth the trip!

Thank God. I don’t have to drive to San Marcos to get a decent cheeseteak. San Marcos is not that far really, but it’s all about choice, and I don’t have to settle and just get a cheesesteak clone from one of the other local joints, but as far as I know, these guys are the only ones to serve Amoroso rolls in Encinitas. Get a side of tastykakes too, while you’re at it. The east coast favorite, Tastykakes, is here alive and well. Amen.

Grand Open! Massive potions and very good food. I’ve tried the original and the super cheesesteaks and both are good. Chips, desserts, and some drinks are east coast brands. For a single it is about $ 11 so it’s kind of pricy but worth it. When I go its usually prime time for lunch or dinner and it’s not busy and usually I’m the only person there so I hope others find it and try it out too!

Before we moved to Encinitas(17 years ago) Cheese steaks from Stevie’s were what’s for dinner each and every Friday. I like Philly Franks but my wife doesn’t like it as much as I do so we tend to go less than we did in the beginning. She likes Capriotti’s for her cheese steak and always end up getting the Bobbie so I have no clue if they have a good one. We ate at the Original Philly Cheesesteak last night and we both agreed that their cheese steak was very good. Give it a try we are glad to not have to run to San Marcos now for that occasional cheesesteak urge.

If you are nearby and have the urge for Meat & Cheese this place might be ok. As far as a cheese steak goes I prefer the Cheesesteak Grill or Philly Franks up in North County. I also do not see any side items such as fries on the menu which I will usually order along with a cheese steak. Get1Free magazine has coupons for them and they are running a promotion for $ 5.55 regular cheesesteak until the end of April without a coupon. Located in the Burger King shopping center on El Camino next to Rubio’s.
