Pepperdine University

I love this place! At first I was very unsure about coming here because I loved the feel of a large public university but this satellite campus is perfect for me; it has definitely grown on me. The staff here are amazing, especially Dana Robinson! Whenever I walk in I am always warmly greeted, the restrooms are clean and the rooms are a nice size. This is not a rating for the Clinical Psychology program, more so the facility, but I would say the program gets a 6 out of 5! I have never had such a wonderful experience with a campus.

So I am on my third trimester for the BSM program. This school is a joke, all of my class but one has been a self taught class. Meaning read the book do the work and the instructor never teaches from the book.
This is a very expensive program all you are paying for is the Pepperdine name. I wish I would have gone to USC. The financial aid department sucks, they never answer the phone; oh don’t get use to your student adviser I have had 4 now. Once they hire a new one it will be 5. I will not be getting my MBA from here.

UPDATE– I needed to give a more appropriately-​starred review. And since 1 is closer to ZERO than 3, we’ll land at 1. I literally, literally (don’t you hate the chicks that overuse ‘literally’?) LITERALLY was told by the sah’curity broad who likes to chase Barbri kids out of her precious empty satellite campus:
«STUDYING IS NOT PERMITTED.»
I mean Pepperdine, Los Angeles, AMERICA! LISTEN UP! You are in the business of education, and dammit, just like our GMO-​laden food, it is a BUSINESS. (Sure wish I could underline on Unilocal but please *hear* the inflection in my voice as I type in monotone lowercase).
What SHOULD be more important (when you run a f’in school, that is) would be encouraging and ensuring the SUCCESS of the students that cross your threshold. The only thing the lady has ever said to me is GTFO. (Look it up civilians). There’s no short-​term negotiation, this is Nazi Germany, and all rules shall be strictly enforced. If I weren’t so damn EDUCATED I’d be tempted to fall accidentally-​on-​purpose and sue their asses.

3÷19÷2009 Update) The school has finally corrected the internet issue, but has ignored my request for a refund.
Another comment on the facility and not of the program. I agree for the most part with the other reviewer that all that she mentions is accurate. I think they are doing OK with the restroom and have recently installed waterless urinals to save water, so thats great. The tables and chairs in the classrooms are the same as the other facilities in all the campuses I have attended, however the projector situation is pretty dismal and the screens are in poor shape.
The thing that really irks me is the degredation of the internet connections at this facility. As we move to more and more online content, the facilities connection is getting remarkably worse. I am going through the MBA program and taking my time, I should complete in August. When I originally started at this facility in 2005, speeds were usually 300kb/​s of faster, now they are literally 17kb/​s, slower than a 10 year old dial up connection. My professors have had to alter their lectures to account for this, it has been a long time problem that the school has failed to correct and it has affected me through this term, it is not an intermitent problem.
If you are considering this program, it is a superb program with some excellent professors and emphasis options, but you should consider a different campus or another local school until they correct this issue. It makes it extremely difficult to learn at this facillity.

This is a review of the Encino Graduate campus, not about the Pepperdine MBA program itself.
I end up coming to Encino for most of my classes for one major reason: ample class selection.
This is a very large campus with almost 20 classrooms. The MBA program is not the only one here, so the facilities are shared with Psychology and Education students, etc.
However, there is usually ample selection of classes to choose from. Additionally, the facility is large, so there are almost always meeting rooms available for team meetings.
There is a computer center, as well as a library, and study nooks in the halls. If you have problems with your laptop, especially connecting to the spotty wi-​fi at this location, you can take it in to have someone help you with it.
Here are the cons of the campus:
Old facilities: The bathrooms are gross and even though they are fixing up the place a bit by painting the walls and putting in new lounge-​y furniture in the halls, the worst problem about the Encino campus is that it lacks enough outlets for students to plug in their laptops. Most classrooms have a box of extension cords and power strips so students can string them across the classroom to juice up. Definitely a hazard. Additionally, most of the classrooms are filled with old chairs and desks. This furniture sucks and it’s hard to rearrange the room for other purposes. Not all the classrooms have projectors mounted, so sometimes you have to roll out a projector on a cart and set it up in your room.
Parking: A semester permit is $ 56… but if you park there for one night with no permit it is $ 15! (Street parking is available, if you don’t mind trolling for it, or walking a distance)
